Was GS650__Z a chain model or shaft? The GL was my first bike..."Two tone blue" aka purple and blue, shaft driven, cruiser set up complete with sissy bars and crash bars. That thing was a tank. Flipped it over backwards proving that it could, in fact, pop a wheelie. Old bikes are so much more fun than new ones. |

If I remember correctly, the first Suzuki that came in a shaft drive was the 850 cc model. They also had the old Suzuki that was partially water cooled and was affectionately known as the "Water Buffalo" but I can't remember the engine size. My Goldwing was shaft drive, and with the opposing 6 cylinder engine, was like driving a 2-wheel Honda Accord! Patti and I took several long trips on it, including a 4-week, 9,000 mile jaunt around the country, visiting 26 states. I miss my motorcycles...I'd love to buy another.

We bought it in 2007 and had it fully restored. It's his commuting car and our camping vehicle. Love that car, too!) We had an '87 Westie (it was my husband's that he bought before he knew me, so I can't claim it) that we sold to buy the truck. We needed the truck for hunting and hauling a trailer, but man, I miss the Vanagon! We had so many great trips in that van! Whenever we strike it rich, that will be be our first purchase! The car rocks! What can I say? Edited by sealiongirl 2009-01-23 9:53 AM |

By far, the best ride I've ever owned because of the memories - that many times should have resulted in a fiery exit from this life - going airborne was at least a weekly occurrance in that thing - could lay a path of rubber through fourth gear - and peeled all 4 tires off their rims more than once through corners. Oh yeah.

The 650 I had was a shaft drive bike. That thing was a tank, but all the GS Suzukis were. Sounds like a fun trip. My longest was 2000 miles in 4 days going out to Colorado and back on my Triumph. I'm going to miss that bike when the guy finally gives me the money, but I spend so much more time on the bicycle at this point. |
