Still use landline since I'm out in the "country" and need DSL, VHS and VCR so SOMEDAY I can convert my wedding onto digital, film camera since the Canon EOS Rebel still produces some very nice photos that I can't get with a digital unless I want to fork over another 800 bucks at least, and DVDs. I'm a fossil. |

What happens when you can't charge up your electronics? Our landline was our link out-- I would call my parents in another state so they could look up our school closings online. The phone chain for work fell apart because of all the cell phones with dead batteries. Granted, it wasn't a life or death situation, but I plan to keep the landline for emergency use-- the phone just stays in the basement with the candles, flashlights, etc in the Y2K pantry. |

Takes a few minutes to 10 digit dial. Who needs cordless when that cord is like 20ft long? Ha ha...my inlaws still have a rotary dial wallphone in their KITCHEN! My co-worker would install regular telephones right next to the cordless phones. Too many times hearing it ring and not being able to answer it because the handset wasn't where it was *supposed* to be. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Very weird list and I can't say that I agree with it that much.
Wristwatch - I'm required to wear one everyday in the Emergency Department. How else am I going to confirm Heart Rate and Respirations? Plus, I know that it's required of EMS personel as well. DVDs - Really? I don't buy pay-per-view, don't have a cable box, but love to watch movies on my big TV. How else would I do it without DVDs? Beepers - While it seems that few people actually use these I'd say more than 60% of Doctors, PAs, NPs in hospitals use them. I'd rather have someone page me with a question about a patient so that I can call them back in an appropriate environment rather than have them call my cellphone when I'm in an area that I shouldn't be talking on it ie a restaurant. Plus the pager I use has messaging capability so that I know what they want right away and can begin to formulate an answer before I call. Pagers like this only cost a few dollars a month. Hospitals are way to cheap to pay my cell phone/text message bills. Typewriters - How do you fill out pre-printed forms that say "type only"? Most of my grad school applications were that way. Film Cameras - While I no longer have one because I moved and no longer had the space for my darkroom, there is something to be said about taking pictures with a film camera and developing them yourself. I really enjoyed it, but I realize that not everyone does that.
The rest I haven't used in years. Edited by rsqdvr 2009-04-17 5:22 PM |

Most of my grad school applications were that way. My kids are finishing HS and college this year. They have both done a ton of applications for colleges and grad programs. And all without a typewriter. Most of the forms are done on-line these days. |
