Morning everybody.  Got my first run for the month done.  My goal is 50 miles.  Had lots of excitement over the weekend with a bear cruising about town....not too uncommon in Jersey, but still gets everyone worked up.  Glad I didn't see him this morning.

lkc01234 - 2009-05-31 4:07 PM So I could put this elsewhere, but figured I'd ask my June Team :-D  What do you all drink to provide carbs?  I think I realized today that Yellow 5 makes my tummy feel funny!!  Which is not fun, cuz I just bought a little gatorade thing of lemon-lime powder...ugh!!

Boy this is a very personal question. Everyone has a different tolerance for how much to drink/what to drink and eat/ on the run.  Keep trying various thinks until you find out what works.  The only advise I would say is to avoid taking goos with anything other than water.

Me--I prefer 18 year old single malt whiskey.  Oh--that's my recovery drink.

victoria.petridou - 2009-06-01 2:53 AM Hello team,

How is everybody doing? Now that we have a captain we should find a name, as well. I think "June Bugs" it's quite funny and we could go for it, though I'm terrified of bugs.

So, what's your plans for the first day of the challenge? I'm going to do 5K.
and now a silly question.... do we have to log our runs both in the speadsheet and in the trainning log? sorry I'm a total newbbie....

looking forward to getting to know you all better.
Have a nice week!

Morning.
Yes you do have to log your miles/minutes into both.

Hi all. I'm Dana from Florida and glad to be part of the group. This morning I didn't want to run and thought about biking instead but then I realized it was June 1st and the start of the challenge.........just the kick I needed to get out and run!

Looking forward to a fun month!

Why do you think it's the coloring and not the Gatorade in general?

I don't drink carbs at all when I run. When I ride I mix up my own combo of cranberry juice, honey, rice syrup, and electrolytes. I don't really know quite what it gives me for carb calories but it has worked well for me so far.

I suppose I don't really know...what in gatorade typically makes people not feel good?  any ideas?

FINALLY!!!! toppage - #3

My son (9yrs) is affected by red 40 and yellow 5. It makes him "jittery" and often times he will throw up after having something with dye in it, which now days is almost anything processed. His doctor says we are "cuckoo" and that dyes cannot affect people like that but we know differently bc if he stays away from it he is totally fine. You can google "yellow 5" and you will enter a whole different world of people who believe that dye definitely affects them. I would experiment with different drinks to see what is best for you.

I, personally, do not like powerade and water down my gatorade with water (half water, half gatorade). I only drink it on really hot days before or after a run. I also take a bottle on the bike along with two water bottles b/c I prefer water.

You could try Gu20 or Nuun.  I've used both and found that I like them more than Gatorade.  Gatorade is too sweet and that sometimes makes my stomach hurt.

So far for names we've had:

June Bugs
Little Deuce Coupe
Long Train Running
Majority Rule (Dee's suggestion)

We just have to decide which one we want (maybe that makes us Team Indecisive?)

At my Tour de Cure ride last year they had Nuun at all the rest stop; I didn't like it and don't think I heard a single good thing said about it. However, Kristen/enders_shadow swears by it.

June Bug is warming to me too.  Although I was initially against it - it does kinda sound cute...

And sorry if I let anyone down - but today is supposed to be a rest day.  I'll be back on the "saddle"..or rather in the sneakers tomorrow Laughing
