Hey Mark - the lake was REALLY warm the other day.  Probably mid 70's.  I was melting in my wetsuit.  Any indications on what you guys are going to allow and not allow on race day?  Thanks.

Rode the course today 3 times...THE NEW COURSE ROCKS!!! Not to have to deal with those intersections is a huge PLUS!!!!I am not doing the race, but now I wish I was!!!I will be there to voluinteer and cheer!

Swam in Loon pond after biking and the water was great! NO NEED for a wetsuit BBTongue out. The water temp was probably around 72 with very cool undercurrents.

The official policy on wetsuits is pasted below. We'll get a read on the water temperature a few days before the event and post it to our website and push it out to racers via email and our Facebook fan page. Historically, the water temperature has been 78 degrees or less on race morning.

WETSUIT POLICY: All participants may wear a wet suit and be eligible for rankings and prizes if the water temperature is less than 78 degrees F. If the temperature is between 79 and 84 degrees F, participants wearing a wet suit will not receive a ranking or be eligible for awards (they will still receive split times). If the temperature exceeds 84 degrees F, no participants will be allowed to wear a wet suit.

This was supposed to be my first Olympic.  Unfortunately, I crashed my bike yesterday morning.  Separated shoulder and possible fracture of the AC joint.  Plus a real bad case of road rash.  I'm bummed, but hoping I will be back in action for the Fantastic Nantasket Sprint.  Good Luck to everyone racing in two weeks.  I plan to be there next year!!!!

So I found out yesterday that a paper cue sheet zip tied to aero bars and sweated upon, tends to makes things a bit hard to read.

While on rt 18 south, I missed the turn onto Mason Road and headed right into New Bedford. Turned my 26 mile training ride into a 42 mile scavenger hunt as I tried to backtrack and find the right route! Thankfully - things should be clearly marked on race day

Reason #49 I am glad I have my new Droid with Google Maps and GPS Navigation.  OTOH, it was a great day to ride.

Are we doing dinner again on Saturday night?  Usual place (I forget the name of it, even though I have been there 3 times already)?  5pm?

Kevin and I swam then rode the course Saturday. I hear lot of folks miss the turn on Mason when riding either the Cranberry or Patriot course.

I don't like new Cranberry course as much as the '06-'09 course..I know the '05 course, '06-09 course and have ridden the various courses probably 50x over the years since '05.

I understand the need to work with town officials and make the roads work for both the race and local residents.

This course is same last 10 miles as North changes to Morton of the '06/09 course; with middle part on Long Point opposite direction of '06 course; the part from 1.65 miles to 4 miles on 18 was part of the '05 course and a busy road except the last mile or so; the totally new section around Snipatuit has really rough section at far end of the pond with cracks going length wise in the road so be observant. Another spot with some tricky pavement is after you go up Long Pond and make a right, you will be going down hill and if you stay far right some of the street drains have very bumpy pavement around the drain and much of it is in the shade so hard to see.

sorry to hear about the crash. If you are up to it, feel free to come out and cheer/volunteer. Have you tried to the RD to see if you can push your registration to next year?

Doing three loops of the course this weekend.  Anyone local know if its marked yet or if we'll be fumbling with cue sheets?

It isn't marked, unfortunately. Glad I have a Garmin 705 GPS for turn-by-turn directions... those darn cue sheets are a sure way to spoil the day!

Most races, including cranberry do not mark the routes until the day before the race. More often than not, they are paper or cardboard type directions and for some reason, towns do not like them posted for too long. Good luck with the paper cue sheet. Consider putting it in a Ziploc bag.

See you all in 2 weeks

Last year it was marked the weekend before (as was Patriot this year)  and the people who do Cranberry/Patriot have historically marked with painted yellow and orange arrows on the road.  i was just hoping they were following the same protocol as last year.

I rode it twice last weekend and it wasn't marked. There are other routes marked that overlap but they are not the same.

Do you know the old course?

If so the last 10 miles are the same. Just drive the first 16 miles and double back to the camp on 18 and you can then ride it. I put more specific notes about the course on a post I made a few days ago.

I know the guy that has been bike course chair and he usually marks the course the day before the race.

You missed the turn on Mason which is the same turn as Patriot and old Cranberry so she probably will find it okay.

FYI first time I rode Patriot course we did it as a group BT ride and we missed the Mason turn as well but turned around after about 4-5 miles.

Drove and then rode the bike course today. It seems like there are more downhills than uphills - with good weather there could be some very fast times. I 'bagged' the cue sheet missed turns three times while driving but not once while riding. I guess it pays to drive a course before heading out with a cue sheet only.

One week to go till the big day - good luck everyone!

Rode the new course yesterday also - it seems very fast, and one of those rides which feels like it has more downhill than uphill, which is always good.

My first time doing Cranberry.   My family will be coming down to watch, but will arrive later than me, probably after the swim waves have started.    Can anybody comment on the parking situation - will they still be able to park at Ted Williams or does it fill up?   Also, if they plan to come see me half-way round the ride, is it easy to get out and then back in to Ted Williams (or not worth trying)?
