I'm showing 295 registered to this point - I'm sure there are a lot of folks like me who haven't sent their money in yet but are planning on being at the start line... Hope everyone's training is going well.. |

Master 9705 Raleigh, NC area | Subject: RE: Beach2Battleship Iron Distance Triathlon : Official Thread Training is going well so far. My early season races are completed and I've been doing a lot of riding in the past month. My next event is Tour de Cure in five weeks and that will be ~175 miles over the weekend of June 4-5. My heart rate on the bike has been running a little bit low these past few weeks. After talking to my coach about it, we decided to retest next week. We agree that the zones have probably changed since this last test which was ... a while back. Lots of miles have been completed since then. I'm very excited and I have April 29 marked as Six Months!!! Edited by jmkizer 2011-04-25 1:02 PM |

Girl you are SO going to kick my butt! My training plan still is in the low build phase and my longest training ride has been 1:45 How low have your bpm gone on the bike? I always have a super hard time keeping my heart rate up on the bike vs. not being able to keep it down on the run |

Master 9705 Raleigh, NC area | Subject: RE: Beach2Battleship Iron Distance Triathlon : Official Thread A long time ago, I went to the Human Performance Lab at Meredith College and had them do my metabolic testing. They have you bring your bike and put it on a special trainer with known wattage stuff and you were a face mask so they can measure your oxygen, and they you every so often to get blood. The works. They gave me a report which I shared with my coach and we set heart rate zones based on that. That was 2+ years ago (just looked, Feb 2008 so 3+ years). Since then I've added swimming and running so I wouldn't be surprised if it has changed a bit. At the time of my testing, my LT was 180. Based on that, my coach set my cycling Zone 2=146-159. She's having me do a TT next week to reset it. (My running Zone 2 – 160-170). Yes, my zones are oddly high. |

I'm considering the race but live in Texas so would be great if Tribike or any other outfit was servicing this triathlon...thanks I don't know of any transport services for B2B but I would contact Inside-Out in Cary or TrySports in Wilmington (http://www.trysports.com/) about shipping the bike directly to them. I know that Inside-Out (https://www.insideoutsports.com/) was on site last year and I think they did wetsuit rentals. The FAQ on the site refers to Bike Cycles in Wilmington as well. Bike Cycles 910-256-2545 Bike Cycles is the sponsor of the PPD B2B Bike Course, providing hundreds of hours of planning on the bike routes. Bike Cycles is located approximately 2 miles from the Beach (T1) Transition Area and will be open Sunday October 30, 2011 from 1-4PM for bike pick up / drop off. I did the half last year and I'm doing the full this year. I really hope that you can make it!

I hope that everyone is having a great holiday weekend. I had a bike wreck a couple of weeks ago - not my first by any means but this time I led with my noggin. Concussion/couple of small fractures around my eye socket/first ever night in a hospital/road rash, etc. Oh,well..It's not a party until something breaks. Most concerning part from the aspect of tri training is a jacked up shoulder..Nothing showed up on the xray but have to wonder if something isn't torn. For now, I'm just letting it rest. Still plenty of time to reboot for B2B so plans to be at the start not changed. Good luck to all with your training! |

Master 2426 Central Indiana | Subject: RE: Beach2Battleship Iron Distance Triathlon : Official Thread Lookin' to B2B this year as my 1st ironman (~14-15hr goal). My 1st HIM was Muncie last July (in 6:24), so B2B should be better weather than that 90F scorcher ?s for you B2B vets- 1. My wetsuit is sleeveless & has worked well for me in Midwest events down to ~70F. Athlete info from web site seems to emphasize the COLD swim (wetsuit mandatory, etc.). Would adding neoprene cap & booties add enough warmth for swim, or should I buy full wetsuit for B2B? 2. I was planning only 1 brief stop on bike leg (halfway for spec needs bag). Are bottle hand-ups done @ B2B, or do you need to stop to pick up water/HEED/etc.? 3. Is bridge after bike start really bad enough to demand tough tires (Gatorskins?), or is normal training clincher OK (ProRace, GP4000s, RubinoPro, etc).? 4. DW cycles some but is not really into athletics. However she likes beach towns & we've not visited NC before. We would be driving to event. Seems like Hilton would be best hotel (downtown & near events/water taxi, etc.), or are there better options? Any advice appreciated! -Just finished 1st 12+hr training wk of year, so a bit ahead of Fink's Be Iron Fit Intermediate Plan. Edited by Oldteen 2011-06-05 11:15 AM |

Would adding neoprene cap & booties add enough warmth for swim, or should I buy full wetsuit for B2B? I just talked to a Wilmington native about this exact thing. Last year the water was about 60F. The event was also two weeks later in the year. I wore a sleeveless wetsuit for the HIM last year and I was not cold in the water. My feet did get very cold on the long run to T1 but that has nothing to do with the wetsuit! Ron said that he expects the water to be in the mid 60s this and he plans to wear a sleeveless wetsuit. I'm thinking that I will do the same. Ron and I may be the only two people there in sleeveless suits but I'm good with that. 2. I was planning only 1 brief stop on bike leg (halfway for spec needs bag). Are bottle hand-ups done @ B2B, or do you need to stop to pick up water/HEED/etc.? I did not need to stop the bike for the hand ups last year during the HIM. Volunteers seemed well schooled in the process. 3. Is bridge after bike start really bad enough to demand tough tires (Gatorskins?), or is normal training clincher OK (ProRace, GP4000s, RubinoPro, etc).? I'll leave this to the experts. I did not see any flats though. 4. DW cycles some but is not really into athletics. However she likes beach towns & we've not visited NC before. We would be driving to event. Seems like Hilton would be best hotel (downtown & near events/water taxi, etc.), or are there better options? The Hilton is the best for the event itself. That is where DH and I stayed last year and will be staying again this year. The Hilton is where a lot of the run spectators are and where the shuttle to T1 and from the Battleship drops you off. That being said, I know that some people stay in Wrightsville Beach. |

Master 2426 Central Indiana | Subject: RE: Beach2Battleship Iron Distance Triathlon : Official Thread I'm (loosely) following Fink's Be Iron Fit Intermediate Program. Did my 1st HIM last July, 2nd marathon last Oct, & my 1st 4k straight swim (pool training) ~3wks ago. Did HM early May & again a couple days ago, both just sub-2hr. Longest bike this yr was yest @ only 83mi, and I did that day after racing HM so the legs are feelin' it. Fortunately, today is scheduled rest day. This year training's been run focused so far, so I know biking (my fav sport) will come along. I generally swim & run alone, but enjoy spirited group rides. It will take some discipline to back off those 20-40mi hammerfests with my buds & concentrate on LSD for IM. I somehow wish the event was in 4 weeks, but I know I need the 4 mo to work on swim & adapt to new tri bike. It's only my 3rd yr of tri so I still learn a lot reading RR's & training stories. Tailwinds always!

I don't have much else going on other than the usual -- you know, training, work, training, grocery getting, training, repeat as needed. |
