8 | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad I've done a couple more rides and find the software to be great.
I think I may have discovered a "bug" though: The Kurt Kinetic Rock and Roll setting in TrainerRoad gives me a power output of ~241W at 17.4mph. According to Kurt Kinetic themselves, however, this should be ~196W. Is there an error in the formula? Or does the Rock and Roll trainer differ from the standard Road Machine power curve? (I was under the impression their fluid trainers all use the same curve) Edit: After typing in some of the numbers I've seen, I'm going to guess that speed/power relationship is currently set as: 5.24482*S+0.02968*S^3 rather than the standard: 5.24482*S+0.1968*S^3 Edited by larson07 2011-10-30 7:43 PM |

Thinking about it now, I don't see why it would be different then the one for the road machine. We have a slightly different road machine formula too. It's 0.019168. Supposedly there is a typo on the KK site. I'm going to e-mail KK and see if they use the same unit for both. If so, then you're right, we should change it. Thanks for catching that! |

Member 194 | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad I was a little confused about our Jorge plan integration. The one that's posted on BT is owned and paid for by BT, so we can't use that. We might be able to do some sort of integration but that's down the road. But the good news is Jorge is writing NEW plans for us. A couple focused on different times in the season. So you'll have the option of doing BTs plan through free rides or Jorge's new plan with some structured workouts. Both being good options. |

Extreme Veteran 454 Torrance/Carson | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad Nice! I used the software for the first time yesterday and enjoyed using the interface. If I'm working out I really don't want to think about a lot of stuff since I overthink and focus more on that than actually working out. It'd be nice to have a variation of Jorge's plan. I don't do enough cycling so any form of plan will give me significant gains. I did the 20 minute test yesterday for the first time since I just got my trainer. It was really good, albeit painful. (Watching "Hell on Wheels" during the workout helped get me pumped.) Unfortunately, it turned out my speed sensor wasn't working so it determined an FTP of 10. lol. My heartrate monitor was working though, so I just took the averages off of that to determine my lactate threshold. I'll do another power test later this week. I'm using a CycleOps Fluid 2, and selected the beta v2 virtual power setting. |

You could try the 8 min test to get a little variation. We already have a few plans that should help you improve. You should check those out. |

Pro 4054 yep, | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad tcj103 - 2011-10-29 9:45 PM I just tried this out, with a non-listed trainer, a Travel Trac Fluid+. It has an adjustable resistance system, with 5 discrete settings. I looked up the KK road machine power curve, and it's pretty close to the "3" setting on mine, so I went with that. Generally I could nail the target power within a couple watts, and had a pretty good hour ride, doing the Twin Peaks ride. I'm just starting off with power-based (or VirtualPower in this case) training, but have tracked calories for a while. The summary data shows 602 kilojoules, which converts to 143 calories. This seems kind of low; most hour-long rides for me will be in the 600 calorie range.
I'm curious about this since I wanted to try this out. I have a cheap Performance Bike Ascent magnetic trainer. |

This seems kind of low; most hour-long rides for me will be in the 600 calorie range. For most kilojoules and calories will be a 1:1 relationship. Kilojoules is a measure of the amount of total work that you performed during the workout and this is an important component when considering your caloric expenditure. Although kilojoules (KJ) and Kilocalories (Kcal) are different measures, you are able to estimate how many Kcals you used during a workout by monitoring the KJ accumulated. There is an approximate conversion of: 4.2 KJ to 1 Kcal Human metabolic efficiency of work performed on a bicycle is estimated at 23 - 25%. Based on this information, you can then take the KJ of mechanical work and extrapolate a 1 - 1 measure. For example, for a given ride you perform 1500 KJ, so based on the information discussed above, you can estimate that your caloric expenditure for the workout is 1500 Kcals. This information will allow you to monitor your caloric intake, which can help you manage your body weight. Proper calorie management will also improve the recovery process, thus allowing you to come back and perform subsequent workouts. Source: Cogan |

You're going to love it. Yes, anything your Joule picks up TrainerRoad will pick up. You can actually use TrainerRoad and your Joule 2.0 at the same time. So your HRM will work, and we'll pick up your speed and cadence from your power tap. We don't display speed while doing power intervals because it doesn't mean very much on its own(if anything). We do record it though and you'll be able to download those workouts in the future. -Nate |

Member 194 | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad If you have netflix breaking bad is a good series to start. Dexter is also a good one. Both of those are pretty dark shows though. TrainerRoad works without a USB stick, but it's waaaay more fun with the stick. I would wait a day and do the 20 minute test once your stick arrives. That will establish an FTP to scale all of your workouts. After that you could work your way through one of our plans. Since it's still early you might want to start with the base plan. It's not too intense but has a good amount of sweet spot training and builds into threshold training as the plan progresses. We'll have a new version out tonight or tomorrow with a bunch of bug fixes. We'll put it on our facebook page before we push it to everyone. http://www.facebook.com/trainerrd |

This question is might be more suited for the techies in the group. My laptop is a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X version 10.5.8 (please no mac vs. pc debate). I downloaded the Mac version of TR but unable to install with OS version 10.5 (requires 10.7). I ran a software update, with the message that I my software is up to date, but obviously this isn't the case! Any other Mac users run into this problem? How did you remedy the issue? My racing season finished with IMAZ, and I am chomping at the bits to use the new TR software! Thanks! Chris |
