If it's not too rude, I'd like to reserve a place for BlindDave too (until he can get to his PC and apply himself!)

Here's my bio (warning: long)

NAME: Jen Snyder (juniperjen)

STORY:  Oh this could get long.  Hahaha.  If someone had told my teenage self about this triathlon obsession I would have in my adult years I would have laughed at them.  I liked to be active but I wasn’t ever good enough to play any organized sports so by my late teens to early 20’s I loved to do aerobics but the motivation to be consistent just wasn’t there.  I randomly joined a 10k clinic at my local running specialty store. I had a bunch of reasons: to see if I could, and to get out of my basement apartment since I had just moved away for my job and of course my desk job wasn’t doing my pants size any favours.

Well, that 10k clinic was just the very beginning.  Considering when I joined I didn’t know what a marathon or a half marathon or triathlon was I couldn’t have known where it would lead.  That 10k clinic led to half marathons then to marathons.  In my first marathon group I met the man I married last year and who would introduce me to triathlon.

I went with him to BC to watch him do Ironman Canada in 2007 and I was instantly keen to give it a go.  Two small problems: I didn’t own a bike and I didn’t swim.  Well, if run training had taught me anything it was that a goal can be set, worked toward and achieved.   The swimming was the most difficult part and I would love to sat it was easy to learn but it wasn’t.  Thankfully, I knew to work at it and not be too ambitious when signing up for tris because my first few tris were panic-ridden short-distances and I even had one where I didn’t finish the swim … but I was diligent and lucky to have my SO be into it as well because with more OWS time my panic dulled and I successfully finished Muskoka 70.3 in 2010.  I felt truly proud of my performance and was overcome by just how far I had come to get there.

FAMILY STATUS:  Married for just over a year – no kids but a dog and a cat

CURRENT TRAINING:  trying to get my base fitness up. Using a winter maintenance plan as a loose guide.  I am strongest in running, lazy about cycling and worried about swimming since I am a relatively new swimmer

2011 RACES:  My 2011 season definitely did not go according to plan.  I raced a 30k run in March where I had PR’ed for the last three years but in 2011 I felt flat and although for me, it was a good race time was not happy with the effort. I did some shorter runs, a half marathon and 10k that were fine.

I signed up for Muskoka 70.3 which I had done the previous year.  I opened the tri season with a duathlon which I have done for several years for fun.  I only did one tune-up tri which went really well for me – it had odd distances: 1000m swim, 30k bike and 7k run.  I was feeling slightly under-trained for Muskoka since we bought a house and moved in August but I had biked the course two or three times and it would be fine.  However, 10 days out from the race I tripped on some stairs and sprained my ankle pretty badly.  That was it for racing for me for the rest of the year.  The recovery was about 6 weeks and I was fairly lazy into the fall.

2012 RACES:  Signed up for Ironman Mont Tremblant! That is all that is set in stone.  I am registered along with my husband so I do intend to train at least my long rides with him.  We’re looking at the 70.3 in MT or Syracuse as good tune-up races.  I will be running a half marathon with my little sister – her first half as her pace bunny in the spring but I am really out of my element for racing knowing I have such a big one the plate.

WEIGHT LOSS GOALS:  Weight loss is not a major concern of mine. Eating well is definitely something I need to get a handle on since I tend to eat more junk than I should but I definitely am in a healthy weight range for my age and height.

WHAT WOULD MAKE ME A GOOD MENTEE:  I am an enthusiastic team member. I am happy to share what I know and encourage my teammates.  I have a lot to learn for this season – mostly about nutrition, training intensities and really increasing my bike fitness.  I love triathlon and the community.

rymac - 2011-12-28 9:14 AM I just had my first "The Sufferfest" experience this morning on the bike.  I did the Fight Club workout although I did not have the video streaming I just had the intervals mapped out on TrainerRoad.  That was alot of fun and painful at the same time .

I have 4 sufferfest vids and am very excited to get them going next week, i would love to try the trainerroad with them, but my PC sucks and i will use the Sufferfest via my PS3, which i do not believe trainerroad supports.

I wonder if i download the trainerroad software to a remote hard drive if i can run it through the PS3 that way??

Not sure.  If there was a Technology class I would have failed.  If you email TR they will get back with you quickly.  I just run it on my laptop which works great.  Actually the way that they sync the workout intervals with the video I am pretty sure you would need your PC no matter what but I am no expert.

What is your favorite Sufferfest video?  I am going to try another one this weekend.

I have three of their collection. I've done the Local Hero so far and all I can say is : phew!! I thought I was done and I still had another 10 mins to go. I literally suffered! ; waiting on the sidelines are Revolver and A Very Dark Place. I am looking forward to them.

NAME: Tiffany

STORY: I am entering my fourth season of triathlon and plan to complete my 3rd half-iron distance race this spring, and hope to add 1 or 2 more later in the season. Ultimately, I am working to the Ironman distance, probably by 2013.

Definitely a "Type A" personality. I like to have and follow a plan and am very committed to doing what I need to do to take care of my training. My weakness is the bike, but I have already started working to address that. I'm not the fastest runner, but I have improved tremendously since beginning this venture. I am a very experienced swimmer and have a lot of knowledge of the sport.

FAMILY STATUS: Partner of 10 years who also shares this triathlon passion with me (and I think made it in under the wire to join this MG); we have 2 Boston Terriers (Torrey- 6 years; Tanner- 4 months) who would both do triathlons if they could.

CURRENT TRAINING: After a tough few months personally, and no training, I have bounced back with a solid December and ready to start a 12-week HIM plan on January 1.

2011 RACES: Houston Half Marathon (PR at the time); Ironman 70.3 Texas (PR & HM PR); Tejas Triathlon (sprint; race PR); Shadow Creek Ranch Sprint Triathlon -Relay (swim); Bridgeland Sprint Tri (race PR).

2012 RACES: Ironman 70.3 Texas; other races TBD

WEIGHT LOSS GOALS: I am currently 5'6" and weigh 150 lbs. I raced Houston HM last year at this weight and dropped to 136 for IM 70.3 Texas. Ideally I would like to be at 128-130 and maintain within 5-7 pounds of my goal race weight.

WHAT WOULD MAKE ME A GOOD MENTEE: As with my "Type A" personality, I am a diligent workout logger, so my logs on BT are always up-to-date. I check in multiple times daily and love to read the insights others have to contribute. I'm no expert by any means, but I do like to help others if I can, especially in regards to swimming.

ALSO: Despite a race log full of PRs, 2011 was a devastating year for me, which ultimately took me out of consistent training for about 3 months. Beginning in February, struggled with the deteriorating health of my 3-year-old Boston Terrier...after several trips to Texas A&M for tests and treatment, had to put her down in June. In August, my dad passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, and really took its toll on me emotionally. Then in October my aunt passed away, which made it difficult for me to try and bounce back. Certainly hoping for a better 2012 and I know overall I am in a much better place emotionally when I am training and racing consistently.

I like to follow a plan when I am training and I am not one to just shoot from the hip when it comes to workouts.  I am very serious about training because I like going into a race knowing that I have done everything possible to make myself ready to compete.  The training is also quality time spent with Tif and having the accountablitiy makes it easier to be consistent.

The swim and bike are my weak areas.  I have made huge gains in the swim over the passed three seasons and I hope that trend continues this year.  I am currently doing the same bike training as Tif in hopes to improve that discipline for the HIM in April.

FAMILY STATUS: Partner of 10 years who also shares this triathlon passion with me (and is in the MG); we have 2 Boston Terriers (Torrey- 6 years; Tanner- 7 months).

CURRENT TRAINING: After a  few months of not training, I have had a solid December and ready to start a 12-week HIM plan on January 1.

2012 RACES: Ironman 70.3 Texas; other races TBD

WEIGHT LOSS GOALS: I am currently 5'8" and weigh 152 lbs. My goal race weight is around 145 lbs.

WHAT WOULD MAKE ME A GOOD MENTEE: I like to learn from others and I like to think of myself is coachable.  I am pretty good at keeping up with my logs and I am open to any advice and input.

ALSO: Like Tif said, this has not been the best year for us.  However, we are hoping 2012 has better things in store for us personally and in racing.

NAME: Chris Menjou, 45

STORY:  In 2004 I weighed 274, was never big as a kid/teen but depression, job, etc.etc.  Decided to lose weight and get in better shape for diving, started swimming.  Met some guys at the masters that did tris, slowly started riding/running.  First tri was 2005.  Added Olys in 2006, HIMs in 2007, and IMAZ in 2008.  I was progressing up the tri "ladder" and reached the IM pinnacle, sprints and Olys didn't interest me much.

Just after my 2009 HIM the next year, I got sick and had to take the rest of the year and most of 2010 off.  I did few swims and runs, one offs, but my first tri back was a sprint Oct. 2010.  2011 was the comeback year, and I was content just to participate, did 14 races, including a HIM, an Oly, Alcatraz Challenge and a 4.8 mile OWS.  Raced mostly in the approx. 235# range.  Decided that 2011-2012, the best thing I could do for my running and riding was lose weight.  Started Sept at 235, weighed in this a.m. at 213.  Goal is to not be able to register as a Clyde.

Always thought I'd do another IM, and I still might, but right now it's not in the cards.

Biggest problem every year has been injuries of some sort.  Currently battling some hip muscular issues that I haven't yet found a solution for, that has dropped my running to zero.  I find the mental cyclical battle with injuries to be the toughest, as I can't run, get depressed, eat, gain weight, get depressed, etc etc

FAMILY STATUS: 2012 will by my and my wife's 20th Anniversary.  No kids.  One cat.

CURRENT TRAINING: Fall was a run focus and was going well, that's been basically non existent since Thanksgiving.  Trying to keep up the motivation to swim and bike still.

2011 RACES: 2 10Ks, 2 Half marys, 2 aquathons, 1 sprint, 1 oly, 1 off distance almost HIM, 1 HIM, 2 ocean swims.

2012 RACES: Currently only registered for Calif. HIM in April, although that is in question.  Would like to do:  Wildflower (may), 10K swim (Aug.) Alcatraz Challenge (TBD), 1-2 Olys, 1-2 sprints, and if healthy a late season HIM.

WEIGHT LOSS GOALS: As above, currently at 213, would like to be sub 200.

WHAT WOULD MAKE ME A GOOD MENTEE: I love training, racing, and everything triathlon, but have also learned that life needs balance.  Being sick made me realize that I could wake up on a Sat. morning and instead of biking with friends for 5 hours, I could get a coffee and take a walk on the beach with my wife.  It's OK not to be Type A.  That said, I'm pretty Type A , keep my logs up to date, love the metrics, etc.  I can offer info on swimming, and have a lot to learn about the bike and training with power.

ALSO: As much as I like to go as fast as I can, ultimately that's not very fast.  I will never (likely) KQ or BQ, so I find the satisfaction in setting new goals, or trying different kinds of races (alcatraz swim/run, hopefully SOS someday, etc.)  I find I am enjoying "experiencing" racing more than "racing," if that makes sense.

Name: Thomas Troncoso / golfpro

Story: I got started by a buddy of mine Jeepguy2358 here in BT. Late in ’08 he told me he had done a Sprint and by his expression and pure excitement, I had to give it a try! Two weeks later I was signed up for a Sprint and four weeks after that I was racing in my first Tri. I got home that same day and signed myself up for the same Sprint and the inaugural Rev3 at Lake Quassy. Since then there has been two Sprints and two Full IM’s.

Family Status: I have been married to Maureen for 21 years and I have two boys: Brian and Shawn -ages 19 & 20 and my two other babies, Jack & Chloe (Golden Retrievers).

Current Training: The last two years I have been training consistently with the exception of four months. I took two months this year after Louisville and the two months leading up to the race, I did not train at all (new job!). The last two months have been hit and miss...

2011 Races: I was signed up for a Sprint (Mt.Gretna) & Eagleman but did not enter those as I took a new job. I did end up racing IM Louisville.

2012 Races: Columbia Triathlon – Eagleman - & IM Cozumel for now. Who knows what might pop up.

Weight Loss Goals – to be somewhere near 155lbs by Eagleman and Cozumel. I got down to 162 for Louisville. Time will tell! What would make me a good mentee: Being actively involved in BT as well as updating logs- I think I can bring something to the group.--
