From last years thread I grabbed these two links for following water temps for NOLA as I am sure it will come up:

http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=nwcl1

http://weather.lumcon.edu/stationdata.asp?stationid=103

The interesting thing is that Lumcon is reporting water temp of 55 degrees and NOAA is reporting 77 degrees.  Either I am reading one of them wrong or that is a big swing in temp.

I saw that same difference last week but never got to look into it. Wonder where each of these is monitored, both the location and the depth. That 55 sounds a lot less realistic.

Just swapped emails with a LUMCON rep, she says she'd bet that those temps aren't accurate. She says they are currently in the process of re-establishing their stations so things may be out of whack for the time being. I'd go with the NOAA site. Which btw is back under 76F.

Slight tendon strain in the left foot on my long run Friday -saw the doc, recommends no running till race day and run/walk the 1/2 mary. Kind of bummed, but was worried I would have to drop out, so good news I suppose considering the alternative.  Wave 5 so you can all look forward to passing me on race day.

Never raced where wetsuits weren't allowed - if this happens, I could use some advice, do you wear what you plan to ride in (tri top/shorts)? or something else and change?

When I did IMFL there was a change tent, but the only other 1/2 IM I did was not an Ironman sponsored event and they had no tents - so not sure if there would be one for this race...

Seemed like in 2010 there were changing tents but did not see them in 2011.  Expect to wear the same thing all day.

No gators to worry about.  After their lose to LSU they don't dare come around these parts anymore.

I've done 12 HIM and there has never been a change tent. Every full iron I've done has change tents.

Def. no changing tents for a 70.3. Just wear the same thing the whole race. Trying to switch out clothes, especially when you're wet is a pain. Tri top and shorts.

If there's a concern about being uncomfortable on the bike you can always throw a pair of bike shorts on top of your tri shorts for extra padding and just slip them off after you get to T2.

Just make sure to bring lube (Aquaphor/ Body Glide/ Tri Slide/ etc.) and use it generously... everywhere! It's going to be hot and humid down there and things will chafe that you never expected to chafe if you don't prepare for it. Oh! And don't forget the waterproof sunscreen!

2 of the last 3 HIMS I have done have had 95+ temps so low 80's would be ok with me. 65 cloudy and no wind would be perfect.

Athlete Guide says an in-water start.

Hey folks...new to this distance and event and looking forward to it.  Anyone have any ideas if we'd be able to get in a swim on the course (or just in the lake) during the day on Friday?

Congratulations on joing us for NOLA 70.3!

Here is a map to the swimhole where the local's swim.

http://www.gnotri.com/images/MAP.jpg

Will be there Friday morning @ 0900 but should be plenty of locals swimming before and after.

Water was cool yesterday. Some swimmers in tri shorts but most in wetsuits.

Keep the pilings always to your right side.

Good luck!!

????Didn't bring the thermometer but felt in the low 70's on top. Deeper water was much colder. Those just in tri outfit were shaking when they came out the water. Very comfortable with the wetsuit.

Thanks, sounds like we may still see wetsuit legal.  No problems swimming it without a wetsuit but I will take every little bit of help.  Guess I am more worried about this rain pattern we are getting.   Not sure about NOLA but in Baton Rouge we have been getting a fair amount of rain.  Would like a nice 10 days without rain to let everything dry out.

Thanks for the map on the swim hole.  Sounds like there will be plenty of folks getting in a swim before Sunday.

Good luck to all next weekend!

Okay, 10 day outlook call for scattered thunderstorms and a high of 86.  It really is too far out to accurately predict but I wanted to post this and the compare to race day.  One more ride tomorrow and taper truly begins.  As always not as ready as I would like but I will finish.

Just a reminder to everyone to review the rules and regulations prior to race day, as there are some on there that differ from USAT rules, and some may even be new to WCT events. In particular, I don't remember seeing a requirement to wear the racing bib on the bike, but it's there this year:

 BIKE COURSE

8. Athletes must wear the Ironman issued bib number at all times while on the course. The bib number must be placed low on the BACK of athlete’s jersey where it is clearly visible. Folding or cutting bib number or intentional alteration of any kind is STRICTLY PROHIBITED. Race belts may be worn.

I have asked but have yet to determine how stringently we will be asked to enforce this one, but it's better to not take a chance and remember to put it on in T1.
