I'm going to try to integrate this into my HIM training (will be week 3). If I need to bike, it will be that day's vid. Will still keep runs & swims. I may die trying this, but, hey, what the he11, why not?

day 1 in the books. Felt like I hit mud about 5 minutes into the 20 minute interval of Rubber Glove, my guess is doing it first thing in the morning requires some food or caffeine prior to jumping aboard. 275 FTP is a little south of where I tested Wednesday (which tR LOST!) but its probably better this way so I don't blow up on the tour

I think I'm going to do Rubber Glove tonight. I haven't done an FTP test in a while so I don't know what to expect. I plan on pounding the test though, I'd like to see an accurate number.

I'm officially registered...but I'm still debating whether to do rubber glove tonight, or just take today off, and rest up one last day before and do the whole tour straight through. Probably going to just take the day and get ready to start saturday.

My last FTP test was a few months ago, never done rubber glove though. I've just done the trainer road test. I'm a bit nervous about this!

How do you all handle the Extra Shot + Wretched stage? When I read about the extra shot video it made it sound like it's something to add on after workout, not before, because it has no warm up or cool down.

I'm waiting until tomorrow and doing the rides through my normal time zone.  I feel like playing off other time zones is gaming the system and goes against the intent of the Tour.

I know my Monday is totally shot in terms of meetings and my wife being out of town so I have the kid solo, there's no way I can do Monday's ride on Monday itself unless it's at 2am. Against the intent or not, it's life and this won't be the first or last time it gets in the way of triathlon training.

That's different than using the time zones for the sole purpose of getting a rest day out of it.

I'm going to start today since all of Houston is shut down due to freezing temps and rain so my office is closed and the kiddo is off from school.  Not sure if I'll do ISLAGIATT tomorrow or Sunday or if I will just stay a day ahead of the schedule to whole time.

I have only been on my bike a handful of times since IMFL so I'm not anywhere near peak fitness so there's no way I can get through the ToS at 100%.  I plan on doing most of the rides at 90%.

I'd go for knighthood if I had an entire day to blow and two more to recover, but that wouldn't count for the tour either... I started today because it's tough for me to know if I'm going to have a really rough night at work next week, and I'll need a day of sleep (before I go back to work again) rather than have 2 hours to do a two-video day.

Also, is it a bad thing that my FTP bumped up 15 points with my testing today? I've been struggling at 100% as it is lately due to a lack of training. Not sure how I pulled this off. Is the Rubber Glove warm up that much easier than the 20 minute test on trainerroad?

I can't remember where but I saw some discussion which FTP test to use for the tour. Ideally one would substitute their regular FTP test for rubber glove as this test has been used as a benchmark in the past. I do find it interesting that results would vary considerably between tests though, makes you which has the "true" answer. Is rubber glove easy? Or does TR warm up too hard causing a less than optimal effort?

I could see it both ways. But I don't have a computer and have never used the TR test so I'm of course just rambling here...

I agree. The intent of the tour is suffering. That's why I intend to keep with my 70.3 schedule and do a 1:30 ride tomorrow morning prior to doing Rubber Glove. This will allow me to stay on schedule and also honor the intent of the tour which is more suffering.

Or is your intent to be slightly tired going into your test, giving you a less than optimum FTP for the tour (I'd make the font red if I knew how)

I am so ready to start this thing, almost went early but decided to do it on east coast time. I am going to attempt to maintain my run training also, which is roughly 25-30mpw with a run every day. Not sure if I will be able to squeeze a swim in though

I started tonight. Due mainly to the fact that the sadist that designed this thing put the final stage on Superbowl Sunday.

I decided yesterday to actually do the tour this year and I am most definitely not rested going in to this and I could feel it on the FTP test. I did this same video about a week ago and I managed to hold just under the same numbers which I'll take considering the training I've been doing this week.

Day 1 Done! Surprising to see my FtP nearly 10% higher than it was a couple months ago. Tired but tomorrow is the mountains!

Now to sleep and dream of eating eggs with a beautiful Finnish ladies cycling team member... (Those who've seen the video will know.... ??)

Just finished stage 1. My basement is probably 50 degrees right now, if that, and it felt like a sauna. Should be a fun week.

dammit, FTP went up from 225 to 237, not really sure how, a few big weeks on the bike maybe helped. Bitter-sweet because now I have to suffer more

The "best" one is probably the one you most easily understand how to relate to workouts for appropriate intensity. So it's not necessary to use Rubber Glove to set your FTP, just to get credit for the complete tour. And no, it's not easy because 1. It's a Sufferfest Vid. 2. It's an FTP test.

They set this pair up backwards some as Wretched has the warm-up, but think they did so to put the bigger one second. 20 min vs 35 min.

Warm-up on your own. No reason you can't ride beyond the vids, just have to complete what's assigned in them. There is only ~1:30 before it really starts going and it's never less than 7. Figuring out how to warm-up and cool-down well helps out substantially for something like this.

"Fandom" in triathlon compared to other sports. If you're a sports fan and simply love to follow sport, why pick a sport that may offer a view of the start, the finish and a few moments in between?

Don’t forget this is an incredibly big year for sport with the Olympics back in Athens where the modern Olympics started, and especially triathlon to make its second appearance.
