Champion 7163 Verona WI--Ironman Bike Country! | Subject: RE: swbkrun mentor group 6 years running OPEN Had a pretty good day on a crazy hilly course. Finished in 1:42:28 which is something I haven't done in a very long time. Gave me #1AG and #8 Female. Probably most happy with almost a 6' CR. The suffer factor was very high the last 3m so I was pretty happy to see the net result. For me, going into it 100% blind is key. You just push and push and don't get freaked out at a number you didn't want to see (e.g 8:06 on the biggest hill!). Unlike Brent, I don't have an RR done. Georging it and heading out for Tex Mex instead. |

Master 2501 | Subject: RE: swbkrun mentor group 6 years running OPEN copa2251 - 2012-04-14 2:02 PM Huh?? Wha?? It's all good!!Soooooo excited!! Son who just turned 12 and is doing awesome snorkeling said he wants to try an intro scuba dive!! We let him choose which parent goes along on this journey and he chose me -- so I get to blow bubbles under water tomorrow!! What an unexpected treat and I am soooooooooo thrilled to share this with my son! He keeps asking about scuba signals while we snorkel and he keeps trying them out and showing me fish and, well, it has been a dream of Dave and me to have our kids learn scuba. Thing 1 is one we thought would have more issues with it (not the best coping skills when things aren't going well), but something about the ocean turns on his determination and ability to let the small stuff go. Fun fun fun!!!!!Agree tht Boston deferral is lame. That is not THAT hot... Control what you can and enjoy the day. Sheesh, nobody trains in a bubble, the real world is the real world!!!ecozenmama - 2012-04-14 11:00 PM It was part of it. That and we went through an adjustment period around that time when we found out our daughter has special needs. I took some time off to learn about therapy's, deal with the school district, etc. Now that I think we have a pretty great routine down with her speech, OT, food therapy, insert name of therapy here, I am getting back on track. It was a trying year, but it was worth the effort of course, but now it's time for me to keep myself from going insane again! LOL Sounds like a tough time, you know I was only joking right??? Don't take anything we say on here too seriously, we're all supporting each other and love to see people getting out there and doing it despite all the other things going on in our lives! I've got 3 kids too, I was a zombie when they were babies, I just need my sleep! See if you can post a pic of "The Tank", I love that name for him! P.S. I was expecting Kyla to come back at me for that "no excuse" comment, must be too chilled out in Hawaii |

I volunteered at the Winona Lake Trail Ultra today and helped with registration. They offered to let me run for free because I volunteered, so I signed up for the 50k (3 X 10 mi. laps), with the thought that I could bail at 10 mi. or 20 mi. if necessary. Didn't end up bailing and finished the 30 miles in 6 hr 58 min. Placed 1st in my age group. I am an ULTRA RUNNER!!

If this is true, what is your opinion? I personally think it is pretty crappy as it will (or at the very least can) affect people trying to qualify for next year. The weather you get at a marathon is a crap shoot, sometimes it is great and sometimes it isn't. What says the MG? Rachel, this is the first I've heard of this. I couldn't get a deferral for being injured, I actually think high of 80's is not unreasonably high, personally, and I really don't like running in the heat. I'm not sure that's very fair especially as I think there are a bunch of people who got locked out who would still be running this race even with temps as they are. Adjusting hydration and race plan for weather is part of the deal of running races. I know if I were there, I'd still be running regardless of the weather...And most people running Boston are experienced runners, so I really don't get it. My 2 cents.
I agree with Kim. I too have been injured and I can't get a deferreal for Boston this year but if I traveled to Boston this weekend I'd run the race in the heat like any other race I have done and I'd be so happy to do it. I'm sure there are a lot of experienced runners who would have liked to take the places of the deferrals who decide not to run Monday. I thought the BAA did away with all deferrals. The deferral for mid 80s if crap. Kim and I did the MOO Marathon in 86F and I know Fatty suffered bigtime with temps in the 100s. It's a right of passage. Slow down if you're overheated!
Crap x2. Granted, I'm not up to running marathons yet; but seriously, the mid 80's?!? That's not even hot. Unless you're Canadian or something. |

Crap x2. Granted, I'm not up to running marathons yet; but seriously, the mid 80's?!? That's not even hot. Unless you're Canadian or something. Haha, I had to laugh at this because I had to go to a temperature conversion site to get a true concept of the temperatures. For the record, I consider 80 hot. I consider 90 really really hot. Having said that, I still wouldn't expect a deferral on a race. I'd adjust my expectations for pace and would hope that the organizers had it together with lots of water on course. |

Elite 3395 Raleigh | Subject: RE: swbkrun mentor group 6 years running OPEN Crush it Linda! 90 degrees in Boston is not as bad as here since they usually do not hve the humidity. Completed my 4.5 hour ride today: 85.74 miles! Definitely improved on the nutrition front. but ad to switch wheels. I rode my new race wheels for the first 22 miles to get a feel for them but the wind was strong and holding my line was hard. Couple of scary moments with cars. One woman was too busy looking at garage sales and one guy ran a stop sign. Oh yeah, on one section where I was riding at 30 mph (which is 5 miles over the limit) some guy felt he HAD to pass me. I was only going to be able to hold that speed for 1/2 mile so he could have waited and passed me then, but I guess being behind a bike made him feel slow. I must say the new members have added a spark and it is hard to keep up with the thread. |
