Subject: RE: new wetsuit
Jondpond - 2013-01-25 3:48 PM

Swim training is coming along OK so I am now looking for a new wetsuit as I think I will be ready for some open water swims come spring time.  Does anyone have any recommendations on what brand or type of wetsuit is best for a novice?  I've read some good articles in the Gear Review section, just looking for some peoples' experience.

Thanks,

jon

The one that fits the best in the shoulders and crotch. I started with an intro Nineteen (think cheap, but thick and tough on the shoulders) and moved into a better model once I realized I liked tris and moved up in distance.  Favorite is the Xterra Vendetta, but the seams are somewhat delicate and it's a bit expensive.  I would also try to decide if you want a full or sleeveless.  I bought a sleeveless last year because water temps were high and I ended up loving it.  Very freeing.

If you can rent a suit for a few OWS practices, you'll have a much better idea what kind of suit will fit your swim style / body type.

great advice.  some places have a weekend rental, or even up to a month.  i did my IM with a rental blue seventy helix that served me quite well for $100, 2 months of use!

I rented for my first two Sprint Tri's. Found out I really preferred sleeveless. However during early spring swim I rented for at least a month. I used Wetsuitrentals.com out of the state Washington.

It's Hump Day, and that means it's time to talk racing.  Who's going to have some fun and make us proud this weekend?  What's your goal and your plan to achieve that goal?

And here's a question for everyone.  What's your story?  What attracted you to triathlon?  How did you get on this crazy train?

Hey all, no race this weekend. Good luck to anyone who is racing.

Sorry, I haven't been keeping up with this, lately.

I was lucky enough to have a job that introduced me to a triathlete about six years ago. She put the seed in my brain for wanting to do this sometime before I die. Then when Michelle came to work with me a few months ago, we began talking about wanting to do the Chelan Try a Tri, got Candice to sign on too (much better with the three of us, we keep each other going), and the rest is history, starting with our 1st 5k in November as the "Balmelli Babes." Hence the legend begins........ (lol)!

New personal best for me this morning - 11 mile run in 58:18.  I'm sure that's slow and/or short by most standards in this group, but it feels good nonetheless.  Now if I could just see the same improvements in my biking and swimming!!

hi all. We arrived to 84F and humidity.  Took a stroll around the property, had a beer and then headed to dinner for tapas in Spanish Town.  Tomorrow we're seeing the local attraction, the Baths before lazing on the beach.  Here's a view from our room.  It doesn't suck.

i thought rupp's mile was pretty damn cool yesterday. if you haven't watched it yet, check it out.  love the crowd and fellow racer on the track.

then i saw his post race workout... 5 mile tempo 4:50 to 4:40 and just laughed.  salazar said he had some "small kinks" with his finishing kick.. with a 7 second lead.   LOL!!

Hi Guys!

Did a short run today and really took a pounding between the heat and the hills.  Then we took a hike to the Baths which are these massive boulders made of granite, through a water cave and landed here, Devil's Bay.  All in all, a good day although my feet are killing me.   Not sure that will make for a great long run tomorrow, but we'll see.

Carry on!

Thanks, guys! I had a good race, and so much fun. Picture running through the woods at night with a full moon and the bobbing headlamps of other runners snaking along the trail. I saw Jayne and got to meet her daughter and her friend who was there running her first trail race. And I only wiped out once! It was a pretty good one - I stepped in a hole on a downhill section and went flying. Nice big bruise on my knee today as a souvenir. Good times!

WOW, WOW, WOW..all that running you did really paid off.  Go back and read what she told us to do a few pages back.  IT WORKS!  Nice job Julia!

Fingers crossed for me.  I got up extra early this morning so I could beat some of the heat for my long run.  Given the terrain and temps coached modified it a bit to include some walk breaks...TG!

Great pic Suzy, but did you swim back across the bay?  Looks nice and calm.
