I won't speak for Steve but I worked out at the 'Thin Mints' gym.  Did 320 reps in about an hour (translates to 320 cookies in about an hour).  NOT going back to that gym any time soon cause I ended up with a terrible tummy ache!

How crazy is that....I was at the Thin Mints gym, too!

That's OK, this week I'm hanging out with Team Austere. Hopefully the results will be better!

Happy Friday, everyone! I'm sitting in a hotel room in Jacksonville, Fla this morning. I finished an early morning run around the local office park. Temp was 42 degrees with a light drizzle during my run. So much for warm, sunny Florida.

Our temps will rise to the 40s this weekend, so I"m looking forward to putting a few outdoor runs together.

The local visitors bureau put together a cool video on my home town where I continue to live and play to this day. It's pretty well done. No, I'm not in it, but I thought I would take the opportunity to brag nonetheless.

Check it out!

Steve,

That's a great video. What a beautiful place. Ir's very easy to see why you'd want to stay there.

James:

My numbers for the week:

weight loss of 1.6lbs = 16 pts
no weight gain bonus = 5 pts
workouts of 378 minutes = 12 pts

Total = 33 pts

Planning to build up my workouts a bit more this week with the onset of warmer weather and Daylight Savings Time.

Scott,

I've been matching my progress against the weekly plan you suggested to Kris as a way to prepare for a Sprint event swim. I'm currently at your week 6 workout yardage. I still have a long way to go, but feel more confident that I will manage the swim by June 1.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Dave

eleven points on challenge

Swung by store that makes orthotics and they eyeballed me walking in new Altra Torin.
They said the sole of the outer heel had collapsed under my R. heel.
I loved the comfort of the shoes. He said prolly don't use them. I was having leg pain..didn't realize was caused by the shoe. Only ran in them twice on a treadmill two miles, and a mile and a half.
Also..... had been walking around in the house in them for three days......... to get used to my new insoles.

I am still running in the adidas Boost...no Prob with those.

Looks like I am the sacrificial last place finisher for the challenge. oh well...look forward to many more years !

Hi Dave,

Good job!  If you are at week 6 you are just starting the true endurance build part of the plan I suggested for Kris.  How is your swimming at this point?  How is your technique at this point?  At this point you should be able to swim 100 yards, without stopping, fairly easily.  Is that the case?

Remember that consistency is very important, especially during a base endurance build.

Keep up the good work!

Subject: California has Bad Weather Also

This is directed towards all of you that are experiencing a terrible winter.  I just want you to know that we have bad weather in California also!  Yesterday, it got REALLY cloudy, and it was hot.  I think it got up to 78.  This picture was taken as we walked in to a large swap meet.  We debated not going because the weather was so bad!

Scott -- jealous of your weather!

We have turned the corner on winter in our area finally (I hope).  This morning was a very, very pleasant ride in.  Temp about 40F.  I didn't even start out cold as most mornings.  The way home should be around 60F.

Today is another treadmill run.  I'm back running but go at it very slowly and cautiously.  The treadmill forces a bit of consistency.  Today's workout will be another run/walk session getting up to about 40 minutes.  Will try at 9:45 min/mile today.

Have a nice Monday and I hope everyone's week start out nice.

Yes Scott, but you miss out on the overwhelming feeling of joy when winter finally breaks :-) I'm afraid that's the best comeback I could come up with lacking swear words.

This weekend was lovely in Virginia and I think (knock on wood) that we've finally turned the corner. Sadly, my business travel begins this week. I really need to work on my planning (truthfully, that isn't up to me, other than changing careers).

Steve, nice video on your hometown. Looks like a great place to live - the Pacific Northwest is one of the most beautiful parts of our country. I've always enjoyed when my travels take me to that part of the world (other than the cross country flights).

Have a great week everyone!
Stu

On another note...

I spent some time yesterday cutting up a bunch of old race T-shirts to make a quilt out of.  I got the idea from a few websites and finally got the nerve to actually do it.  Very hard to take scissors to perfectly good shirts!  But I don't wear them for one reason or another (color, fit, design, or all three!).  I'll spend this upcoming weekend put it all together.  I'll post a pic when I am done.

I'm following this website for instructions.

Well, I managed to suck all the water out of my body by over-dressing yesterday for my first outdoor bike ride of 2014. It was a 3 hour, 50 mile loop with about 2,000 feet of climbing. I'd peeled off every layer I could fit a way to carry but had to wear the rest. I should have known as a fleeting thought of "gee, it's warmer than I thought" went through my brain as I peddled out of the driveway. So, I was fully cooked by the time I got home.

Scott--It was mid-50's and sunny because I know you're worried about us up here.

Weight loss: down 2 lbs to 162.5 = 25
Training = 12 hours = 24

Total 49

No doubt I'll hydrate and pick up the pounds next week.

It takes a steely resolve to soldier on under such brutal conditions.
