HollyW - 2009-01-28 9:13 PM So I missed my workout this morning before work & had to double up this evening after work.  I swam 1800 yards then ran immediately after for about 40 min on the treadmill.  Since it has been a few months since I have done any kind of brick workout I thought I would be totally worn out.  But I felt fantastic by the time I left.  Now I'm all hyped up and will probably never get to sleep. Smile

Nice job Holly!  Hope you were able to calm down and get some sleep.  You have to do it all over again today.

If a day full of meetings is interesting, then yes.  First one is starting now - 7:00am PST.... who schedules a meeting at 7am?

I love my schedule....I'm in at work 6:30ish and outta here at 3:30. With about an 1 1/2 hrs in the middle for the gym or run. Very nice and flexible. Great place to work when you have young kids.

I think a little gym time today is on. Have to take easy though. Going for a run tomorrow at lunch with a girl I used to work with. She's hardcore, so i need to save my legs for tomorrow.

Holly--- Very nice indeed!  That is awesome you felt so good!!

I have NADA planned today.  I go to any Elementary school every Thursday, and have lunch w/ my lunch buddy (sort of like a Big Brothers type deal!), then may hit the bouldering gym for a while... Back to work and leave early hopefully!  Today is my 10 yr anniversary at work, so they can't tell me what to do today !!!

Tonight at home I need to clean house!  The wife has been out of town all week and get's home tomorrow!

Way to go Holly!!

We have a new employing starting with our group today so I am steeling a few minutes to do this.  Shameful, I choose to spend my few stollen minutes checking BT verses doing actual work!

My hubby is one of those up before the crack of dawn so he can come home at 4, but some one forgot to tell him 6am to 4 pm is a 10 hour day!!!  So can I work 2 hours less to keep things balanced?

This may be an easy one for you guys, but i have a question regarding HR.

So today is really the first time I've worn my HR monitoro the stationary at the gym. I did a pretty hard interval workout, but the MAX i could hit on my HR was 156, which is roughly my average HR is when i go for a run.  Where as my MAX HR running is like 180ish. Does that make sense??

Trevor this is pretty normal... There are a few factors.... 1st- Biking is almost always less stressful on the heart than runner (doesn't make it easier, and doesn't mean you can reach your max HR), the other factor I see is stationary bike.... It's just not the same!?  Once you wear your HR monitor on the road on your bike, and you are out of the saddle w/ your legs burning as you max out up the hill.... You will see!  It is also easier to get your HR down on the bike than it is the run.

Either that or you have just gotten in REALLY good shape over night, and you are ROCKIN' the TRAINING!!! There are so many factors that effect your HR... Coffee, food, sleep, temperature.... It just is a barometer.  But a good one!

I hope this make any sense?

I think I'll go with the fact that I got in better shape overnight!!!

That actually really makes alot of sense. I did notice that on the valleys on the bike today my HR recovered alot quicker than when I slow down to a walk while running.  Very interesting....

Great workout Holly. You don't have to catch up on a workout if you miss one though. Just don't miss one after the other.

Today I am going to pick up a dead pig and make salami out of it tomorrow. How's that for exciting.

Trevor you will notice that Tracy is quite the trouble maker. We had a heck of a time last year trying to keep her in line

I'd say make bacon out of it, but you'd end up w/ glorified ham instead of the real stuff.  Canadian Bacon - you poor, poor Canadians.

As long as Trevor isn't interested in vibrating bike seats then I'll be good Innocent    On a serious note, I have the exact same readings with my heart rate on the bike vs the run.  I like to measure my effectiveness by how much I can raise the heart rates of the people around me    It is my secret weapon during the race. If you can moon someone on the bike and make them fall off, you don't have to be faster than other people to win!!!  Don't know if that is the most respectable method of racing but hey..........

My HR on the bike and the run were very comprable last season, turns out I was jogging.

Seriously though, I have (had -gosh it's been a long time since I've ridden a bike) an average HR in the low to mid-150's on the bike.  Lately my HR for running is around 160-165 and higher if I'm doing a tempo type workout.

Most of my workouts are in the morning.  My HR is significantly higher for the same rpe after work - probably because I've exceeded the recommended caffiene intake for an elephant over the course of the day.

I tried the vibrating seat out last week. Surprising the ride went well. Felt really good. Downside was I was on the bike for an hour and only pedaled 20 yards- And i needed a cigarette after!

Too funny!

Sounds like everyone is having a productive day, at least on the training front.

Quick question, my left shoulder is nagging me after swimming, mainly around the shoulder blade.  Any stretches? any thoughts as to the cause?  My swimming instructor has been having me work on higher elbow, particularly on that side to alleviate the problem, but it seems to be making it worse!

Where do I get one of these vibrating bike seats?Smile  The one on the stationary bike I used yesterday was awful - harder than the other ones and it didn't have the groove down the center.  Very uncomfortable!

I've noticed that my HR comes down a lot faster on the bike also as compared to my runs (although I am using a stationary for now) and it doesn't seem to get as high even when I feel like I'm working just as hard.  It'll be interesting to see what it does when I start riding outside.

Aside from bowling league tonight, it's a rest day for me.  Hope everyone's having a good week!

I'm not sure if everyone knows about this great website called map my ride (http://www.mapmyride.com).  It's a great place to find a new running or biking route and it tells you details about a route as well (ie..  it tells you elevation at each section of your ride).

So this e-mail about my race tomorrow is making me nervous.

...

The trail is an ice sheet, it'll probably be crunchy, muddy, and just plain nasty for the race.

....

I have become wussified over the last year riding on the road I guess.  I dropped back to the 15 mile race instead of the 23 just in case.
