KeriKadi - 2011-03-11 2:04 PM

Mylissa, I also HATE being cold. My general rule is I will not bike if the temp is under my age!

The morning of my very first HIM it was 39 degrees! The previous year it was 60 degrees so this was quite a shock. The only change I made was putting on clothes after the siwm. I put my cycling jersey over my tri top, arm sleeves and full cycling gloves. The only thing I took off was the gloves when it warmed up. My T1 time was horrible because I was putting clothes on a wet body but I didn't want to be miserable.

I say do the race. The good news for me is my bottom was so cold I was comfortable on the bike for the first 40 miles. Dress accordingly and you'll do just fine.

Thanks Keri so much. Here's the story. I did the course plus about another half today, but I felt REALLY inept in the water, was swallowing water, grabbed the buoy, doggie paddled some, swam off course, wavy and windy...you name it. Anyway, Mark SAYS I was doing great - he took a kayak out there with me for a bit of it (best race directors ever). I did not at all feel like I was doing great. So...if the weather was going to be better, I would totally do it - the race directors were actually telling me that it was going to be CRAZY cold and windy, and knowing it was my first, to REALLY think about what I wanted to do. The actual water temp was not that bad, and should be fine tomorrow...but its the wet/cold that really concerns me, along with the not feeling great at all about my OWS ability. According to the news, we are now looking at 37 around race time tomorrow (what???)

Anyway, I'm headed out there for the du tomorrow - run/bike/run...and we'll see how it goes. I don't expect to make a time, since I'm adding a leg that's NOT fast for me...this will surely be a 2 hour event for me unless all factors are in my favor on the bike. Rode about half the bike course today, and the wind was unbelievable.

Anyway, theres the pre-race report...not feeling great about all of this, would rather sleep in tomorrow...but I'll go get something done. Thanks SOOOO much for your help! You guys are awesome!!!!

also, I should mention...people are opting out of the tri in droves...adding in to the du. They are setting up an extra tent tomorrow am just for the people changing their registration. At least I dont feel like "the only one"

hey sweet friends!!!

Had a great race. My time was 1:44.30, put me in 4th place, 30s behind the 3rd place gal!!! Felt good about everything today.

It was freezing this am. More about some of the stuff that occured with the swimmers later. Here's probably the only 'disappointment' of the race. My time was ORIGINALLY listed as 1:26 something, cause they had me going out with the swimmers. They had to add time, cause the du people left first. The 1:26 time had me in 2nd place. So you do the math...the run took me longer than the swim would have...the T1 would have been a tad longer...but there you go. I'm happy with my DU time, esp since I'm a crappy runner I haven't gotten the splits or whatever yet...a little curious about that I'll post it when they are up!

you guys are all too kind! Saw Debbie's pics on her facebook - looks like she had a great day too!! Crazy with the times, my time got adjusted AGAIN...now to 1:42 or something. Mark was considering using Epic to time our race in Memphis, so we were studying how they do their results, and found some CRAZY errors...oh well, we can totally cut them slack for that! The whole race industry is interesting.

Race Report is here: it was fun being part of the day!

Hey all, I had a great run race yesterday!  Unlike Mylissa we had a gorgeous day here in St. lOuis and weather was better than expected.  All week they had been saying high of 56 and at run time mid 40's.  It ended up being in the mid 50's during run time and mid 60's the rest of the day!!!!

The run was great.  A few more hills than I thought, but that is okay.  Considering that my time was 57:46.  I was very happy with that time!  I will put a race report up shortly.  It was really crowded though, so glad I did it!

Happy Monday everyone!!

So what's on tap this week? How did last week go?

Spring will be here in just one week!!  It's not going to be truly warm enough for much here for another month at least but I am loving that there are more hours of daylight - i'll adjust to the time change in a few days (yawn!).

So, what's your favourite part of spring?

I love spring race season and the first few runs where I am able to retire my tights and at least wear capris.

Last week went pretty well for me.  The week ahead doesn't look too crazy (sticking to the BT training schedule for the most part).  I have a 4 mile (belated) St. Patrick's Day road race this Saturday.  I've heard the course is hilly!

My favorite part of spring is getting outdoors!  Biking and running are much more enjoyable outside!  We're supposed to have some mild weather this week (not to rub it in, but all of our snow has finally melted!), so I'm hoping to go for at least one bike ride and one run outside this week.

have been feeling really good about my training considering I am soooo tired all the time and now the sickness has set in.  I am still aiming for 5 days a week at least until my 10k April 10th.

My favorite part of spring is the longer daylight and warmer weather.  I HATE the cold and am so excited that after today it is supposed to be in the 60's-70's for the rest of the week!!!  Woohoo.  I much prefer running outside....would bike, but don't have one and I think for now I want my feet firmly planted on the groundWink.

& sorry I haven't done much inspiring!

Hi all, spring is warm in FL! I really didn't have a plan this week other than to get a few runs in and maybe a swim - but my left shoulder is acting up again something awful. This typically happens when I first start back swimming, then once it gets used and stretched some it feels tons better. Hadn't been having any issues, but woke up two nights ago in excruciating pain that keeps getting worse. Rode yesterday and pressure on the handlebar made it worse. Mark's suggesting limited movement of that arm till we figure out what's going on - massage therapy visit today! Hate to miss this week.

Another question - what's your dream race? Any destination, any distance. It doesn't have to be realistic for your current fitness ...

I know it's defunct now, but definitely Eco-Challenge! We have a good friend that's a CRAZY long-distance racer - he's done that race a few times, and it always sounded amazing After that, the TV show "The Amazing Race"
