Absolutely ridiculous that they are encouraging deferment!! Linda, you are everything that is right about Boston. You are what keeps the tradition alive.... Run your race and be proud. It is your spirit that keeps Boston sacred. Suzy, I wish I had your mental push... Nice work.

Brent and Suzy, Congrats on your races today.

I volunteered at the Winona Lake Trail Ultra today and helped with registration.  They offered to let me run for free because I volunteered, so I signed up for the 50k (3 X 10 mi. laps), with the thought that I could bail at 10 mi. or 20 mi. if necessary.  Didn't end up bailing and finished the 30 miles in 6 hr 58 min.  Placed 1st in my age group.

I am an ULTRA RUNNER!! Laughing

I will try to get a race report up tomorrow.  Right now, I'm toast.

Congratulations Jayne, you are amazing!!

Couldn't have said it any better than Terps! I am in awe!

Happy Sunday Morning!

Jayne--really proud of you.  I still can't believe you weren't planning to run an Ultra and then you did it.  The sheer fuel planning and carbo loading prep was out the window!

Scott--I was wondering if we scared you away.  Glad to hear you are back in business.

Linda--I am going to play Devils Advocate--why not defer?  Personally I wouldn't think any less of you if you did.  Let's face it your body isn't 100%.  Jump down my throat if you want to, but to me it's worth contemplating.  They offered it.

Me?  I have a little swim, a bike and then the whole family is over this afternoon for dinner.  Unfortunately we are having those crazy storms that the CA people did so there won't be much entertaining outside.  Was really hoping the two little kids would be romping outside with Cooper, not inside!

RR is up

Winona Lake Trail Ultra

Thoughts on going out and doing an ultra without training:

1) You don't have to worry about stressing before the race

2) You know it's gonna hurt, so just deal with it

3) Who needs toenails?

4) Next time will be easier

5) Considered it an experiment with distance, trail running, nutrition . . . with no expectations.

It was a very small race, only 40 minutes from home, and it was rainy, so some people didn't bother to show up.  That's my kind of day!!

Now, I have to get the little black dress and high heels on and go to a funeral and family dinner.  That should be interesting.  Definitely going to be taking sandals along Laughing  Wish I could recover in Hawaii with Kyla.

A quick note: 4.5 hours on a bike on saturday yields sore gluts on sunday! Gotta run 1.5 hours in a few minutes. Tomorrow is a rest day!

Kyla is wearing a hula skirt.

Kim has a piece of wood in her foot.

Linda is preparing to roast in Boston.

A bunch of MG'ers kicked a$$ on races over the last two weeks.

Fatty slammed Tony about his new fancy degree.

Pretty much the standard stuff.

It was part of it.  That and we went through an adjustment period around that time when we found out our daughter has special needs.  I took some time off to learn about therapy's, deal with the school district, etc.  Now that I think we have a pretty great routine down with her speech, OT, food therapy, insert name of therapy here, I am getting back on track.

It was a trying year, but it was worth the effort of course, but now it's time for me to keep myself from going insane again! LOL

Sounds like a tough time, you know I was only joking right??? Don't take anything we say on here too seriously, we're all supporting each other and love to see people getting out there and doing it despite all the other things going on in our lives!

I've got 3 kids too, I was a zombie when they were babies, I just need my sleep!

See if you can post a pic of "The Tank", I love that name for him!

P.S. I was expecting Kyla to come back at me for that "no excuse" comment, must be too chilled out in Hawaii

Oh no, I didn't take it seriously! Tongue out

Let me see if I can dig up a pic of The Tank at his finest!!

SSMinnow - 2012-04-14 9:08 PM Ok, I'm home and I'm not drunk.  Here's my RR which is short and sweet, just like me.

Your mental toughness is amazing!  I re-read my RR after reading yours and clearly know where my problems lie.

Nice race for an awesome reason!  Well done!

WOW! Jayne that is simply impressive!
Maybe you should get the Iron Gut award for this week... that is a lot of different foods to try out while racing.
What a great "experiment"!  Congrats!

First masters race done 35+ open, not as brutal as I thought it was going to be, ended up just shy of 26mph for 53 minutes worth of racing.

Much smoother racing with the older faster guys than the Cat 5's.  Made a stupid move on the last lap and put myself out in the wind for a bit too long and used up more engergy than I should have so I popped with about 500meters to go.

Great racing the weekend everyone awesome job on the spur of the moment ultra Jayne!

Congrats Jayne on your ultra trail!  I can sympathize!  After spending the night camping in what I can only term as a freezing monsoon, which didn't let up until about mile 25, and breezing through all dry pairs of socks in record time, I can agree with your decision to just go for it!!

If given the chance of no toenails or skin left on my feet, it wouldn't even need pondering!  Thank goodness for the food tent and after Rocky Raccoon, the guy with the hot soup after each loop!

I am looking forward to July and the Captn' Karl's in Marble Falls!  This will be the first complete night race for me, so at least I won't have to look at the damage to my feet until the next morning! LOL

Alright so after being sick all week today was back to training.

6 miles with the club at a nice slow 9:30 pace then a Crossfit class that well I suppose if you can imagine what it feels like to walk slowly through HELL without sunscreen while someone is punching you in the gut... that was Crosfit today.

Hope everyone else had a good training day.

Tomorrow is a Brick... more to come

Why are you carrying a club?

eta:  Glad you're feeling better.

Self preservation, running through really bad neighborhoods makes the Fartlek training so much more intense.  Tongue out

Man, busy couple days around here!!

WELCOME Ang, Kelley and Grisel (Yubi)!!  Don't be shy and ask lots of questions.

Race news:
My half marathon this morning was less than a huge success -- 100% my own fault.  Hard lessons learned today (seems I've said that before Embarassed ...
Anyway the RR is here for your reading enjoyment.

Well Brent I would be very happy with your time for a half. There is always something good you can take from a race. Even if it is only  a lesson learned and we have all learned lots of hard lessons . Congrats on the race.

Had a pretty good day on a crazy hilly course.  Finished in 1:42:28 which is something I haven't done in a very long time.  Gave me #1AG and #8 Female.  Probably most happy with almost a 6' CR.  The suffer factor was very high the last 3m so I was pretty happy to see the net result.  For me, going into it 100% blind is key.  You just push and push and don't get freaked out at a number you didn't want to see (e.g 8:06 on the biggest hill!).

Unlike Brent, I don't have an RR done.  Georging it and heading out for Tex Mex instead.

fantaaaaaastic Suzy. Well except for no RR yet

Awesome Jayne. way to hang in there and git er done
