I like the simplicity of running events but tri is cool. Speaking of, I'm in Massachusetts now!!!! Hooooo boy. Look out Mass.... I've already got a helmet on... Funny story. My cousin is leaving for India today so I am going to be at his house by myself so he is showing me where everything is. He opens the closet and is like, "The helmets are here." And I'm like, "What do I need a helmet for?" Then he just looks at me for a long time. Completely ignoring the usual (and obvious ), it's kind of a taper rule that you should wear a helmet at all times. Mutti and I have a small present for you. We made it ourselves. That will be obvious too LOVE IT!!! I want to hug Mutti. And Yanti. You two are so adorable! |

Master 9705 Raleigh, NC area | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED So Jonathan, I noticed in your race report that you said that you drank only 20 ounces of water during 3+ hours of biking. I have a few questions for you about that. I'm just concerned because once you get behind in fluids (and nutrition in general), you can't really catch up. Also, you were washing down those 5 gels with a few mouthfuls of water, right? Do you drink plain water or something else? Have you tried something like Nuun to give the water some flavor and maybe encourage you to drink more? Have you always had problems drinking on the bike? In other words, do you feel that this is a SpeedFill-related issue? Final question, what's next? |

I have a few questions for you about that. I'm just concerned because once you get behind in fluids (and nutrition in general), you can't really catch up. Also, you were washing down those 5 gels with a few mouthfuls of water, right? Do you drink plain water or something else? Have you tried something like Nuun to give the water some flavor and maybe encourage you to drink more? Have you always had problems drinking on the bike? In other words, do you feel that this is a SpeedFill-related issue? Final question, what's next? Yes I have had problems drinking on the bike. I am not sure why I don't drink enough. I currently use a speedfill hyrdation system on my Tri bike with a hose that comes up the tri bars. I'm not sure if I'm just not taking a big enough gulp or not taking enough gulps. I set my watch timer to make sure I'm taking in fluids every 15 minutes but that still didn't help. It's kind of crazy because during a regular day I probably drink more than most peole (usually about 16 ounces of water every 1.5 hours) but yet on the bike when I need it I don't take near enough. It's something that I really need to work on I think only taking in 20 ounces on the bike really hurt me on the run staying cool. Had I taken in more water I would probably not had to walk jog the last couple of miles. Either way it was a huge learning experience and I enjoyed every single second of it. As far as what's next I'm so so pumped up and excited right now that I can't stop smiling. I loved that 70.3 so much that I'm ready to do one this afternoon if I could. I have a olympic scheduled for the end of May but I really want to find another 70.3 to do this summer. My ulimate goal is 140.6 next May so I'd like to get in at least 2 more 70.3 before then. Edit: I find that it's harder to drink through the speedfill hose than it is a water bottle and maybe this is the problem. I posted a few weeks ago about being out of breath when I drink and this is defiantly an issue. Maybe I don't have it installed right Edited by JJ- 2013-04-11 3:28 PM |

I use just regular water bottles on my road bike. I've tried using Heed to flavor the water but that's not the problem. I love water. The problem is I think I'm drinking more than I am and I'm afraid of having to find a bathroom |

You're asking the Manatees if you should do something that might be considered cheesee and tackee? I'd say that's a plus for us DOOOO EEEEET Lol, I guess I'm asking if y'all have 70.3 or 140.6 sticker on your vehicles. My wife says that I'm showing off (look at me...) I tried to explain to her I'm not trying to show off it's displaying the lifestyle that I have chosen. I had a 13.1 magnet on my car. Then I added the 70.3 magnet. Then I replaced the 13.1 with a 26.2 and replaced the 70.3 with a 140.6. Then I started to buy myself necklaces for races completed (Jonathan, you may want to skip this last step.) Ladies, the necklaces are inexpensive but fun. I have two from Lift Your Sole (http://www.liftyoursole.com/, 26.2 and similar charm one that I made up after Vineman last year) and one from Endorphin Warrior (140.6). After Myrtle Beach, I got myself the run charm that I got for my Secret Santa. Just fun stuff. This is a store we went in to the last time we were in Moab. They have all kinds of tri art/jewelry/ornaments as well as stuff for each of the individual disciplines. It is right down the road from the Gator Half. And yes, there were pics taken. |
