Running question for the big boys and former big boys....  when you were doing your weekly long runs, did your joints hurt more the next day.  I did my 6.25 mile run yesterday morning and the insides of my knees hurt today - I am hobbling around today.  Hurts to stand up, hurts to start walking but gets better as I move a little...  Any insight...

First, I lost nearly 50 pounds before I started running (Power 90) so I can't comment what it was like at 315.
My only problems would appear at about the 8 mile mark and above.  My knees wouldn't hurt, but they got "tender" and the outside of my ankle, below my ankle bone would hurt.  The Podiatrist added some wedges to the outside of the heel area of my shoe and it's all gone.
So maybe everyone's onto something with the orthotics.  Mine aren't officially orthotics, but my footbed was changed and my mine is gone.

DougRob - 2009-10-20 7:15 PM Everyone:

Please give prayers for Linda (Havin' Fun)'s son Connor who suffered a serious head trauma yesterday and is in ICU. It is in her log. IMFL has become inconsequential at this point.

Doug

They will be in my prayers.

Hi all! I've been a bit scarce lately because my laptop is out of commission and my BB isn't too BT friendly. Congrats to all the racers last weekend! Good luck on your mary this weekend Tony! You're going to kick azz!!!

I'm running the Columbia River Power Marathon on Saturday as a training run. Just going to take it easy and see if I can save enough of my legs to run the Tri-Cities Marathon on Sunday. Luckily, they have race morning registration for Sunday's mary, so I can see how I feel before committing. If I can pull it off I'll be a marathon maniac and well prepared to run 50k

technical shirts for 10 bucks, tai does good work from what I have seen.

So who has any graphical aptitude?  We have the BT logo and I can send it to you if you want to design.

I was nodding my head and thought "WOW, that makes a lot of sense to use a marathon for a long training run for a 50 miler", then I hit the part about doing the second one a day later and fainted.  Be careful!

I read his book Ultramarathon man and watched the DVD 50/50, but haven't read it. Yep, Dean is crazy and extremely gifted.  It's amazing the way his body can adapt and recover from that kind of mileage.

The funny/craziest part of his book was the epilogue.  He finished #50 on a Sunday (NYC marathon in 3hrs. - his fastest mary of the 50), did hrs. of interviews Mon. AM, ran another 28m through NYC and Central Park Mon afternoon then woke up Tues. and decided to run home.  HE LIVES IN SAN FRANCISCO!!!!!!!!!!!  SO he ran another 1600m before catching a flight home.  That dude is in his own realm.

I will Suzy. In fact it's likely the second one won't happen at all. I'm only going to do it if the legs feel OK after the first one, and so far I've never had that happen after a marathon. It's kind of nice to have the option there if I do feel OK though. They are right across the river from each other and only about an hour away from us.

Doug, good luck on the ATT 10 miler. Weather should be georgous. Are you in on the bottle of booze party?  And thanks for the heads up, now I have a perfect excuse to blow off my run Saturday. Wink

Tony - even though it is the marines, I guess I'll wish you good luck.  Being an Army girl that is hard for me to say.  Have a great time.  You've trained super well and I'm sure you'll do great.    Hooah!

Does anyone know Linda's last name, or Doug do you know her address?   I live close by and thought I would send her at least a card or something from the group.  Please send me a PM if you know her address or last name.  Possibly I can go see her at the hospital in a few days, depending on how things progress.

Thank you all for your prayers, wishes and inspires.  I can not respond to them all individually right now, but I will.
Please know that they have all been so comforting.  Thank you all so much!

Connor is doing "ok".  We are home now.  He is on 24 hr watch, it is now a matter of time.
I guess the good news is there is no sign of brain damage.  Right now we are most concerned about infection to the brain since the cavity was penetrated with the skull fracture so there is a direct opening.  I am probably not doing a good job of exlaining this, but please understand it has been a very tough last 2 days.

There is somewhat of good news.....the neurosurgeon teams (yes, teams - he had a total of 5 different neuro teams working on him) told us they can not believe Connor is the same kid they saw on the CT Scan.  The CT scan did not give us what we have today.

We know we have a long road ahead of us, but we are so thankful that it was not worse.
Thank you all!

Dude! Look who's back!! It's me.  I went totally AWOL for a while.  I had to drop out of my last race in September due to exhaustion, severe depression, and anemia.  My doc wrote a note.  Man.

It has taken me until now to recover.  In that time, I couldn't even look at anything triathlon related.  It just gave me flashbacks of injury, exhaustion, and pain. :-)

Anyway, it looks like in November it's time to start training again for the Spring season.  I am supposed to be a mentor for Team in Training for Wildflower 2010 Half Iron - which would be my very first iron.  I am 1) very excited and 2) super reticent.  I want to do this and my family are really waiting for me to come out for it as they all want to camp out and go!

I also really want to do it for Team in Training, although I am worried about the sacrifice to my own training that comes with mentoring.  Since it's my first half iron, I really do not want to sacrifice that much.  Plus, Wildflower is all about the hills......soooooo.. I need training that the newbies won't get or need.

Oh decisions for me, but I am supposed to go to a meeting about it tonight.  :-) Hence I am back on this site! (sorry for disappearance).

I am soo.. ambivalent.  I want to do it but given it took me this long since NYC Tri in July to recover - I am somewhat wary.  Currently, I am enjoying my gym routine, etc. and really want to finish my personal training certificate.

HOWEVER, I also love racing sooo..

Just think - this is my biggest problem in life.  HOW BLESSED I AM!!!!!!

How is everyone else? (Guess I better go back to read.  Just thought I would give a shout out during my lunch hour.)  :-D

See ya,

Danett
