![]() | ![]() Originally posted by switch Originally posted by jmkizer Regarding Starbucks recycling, we have barrels that are always full, never properly sorted and seem to be kind of an afterthought. I suspect a management issue -- local management doesn't care so it's not handled. I agree with Salty that the way to be sustainable is to bring your own cup. I do that if I am having regular coffee but not if I'm getting an espresso drink. These photos were taken in Raleigh but I've seen the same thing in Cary and other local stores. Completely agree! My husband and I started and run a non-profit that is dedicated to teaching sustainability and systems thinking to children. We do this primarily by taking kids to natural environments, local farms, and some businesses (biodiesel cooperative, local food coop, landfill, water treatment facility) and using teachable moments to encourage this kind of thinking. It's kind of a two pronged approach--let kids have supervised, unstructured play in lots of different natural environments so they develop a love for nature, and teach them how to think critically and make choices about protecting and caring for the natural environment. I absolutely do the things that Salty mentioned and for me it's just an extension of the choices I make everyday. However, for many it is not so automaticand integrated, and it seems that because Starbucks places value in sustainability practices, having recycling available at stores should be a given. You just keep winning my heart over and over! PS My lil TDI operates on biodiesel. PPS Read about what my other cousin is doing with batteries: http://www.aquionenergy.com/ Energy storage is what's up! It's obviously high level, but very important. |

Going to the orthopedic doc at 2:30 this afternoon to check. I fell down the stairs this morning. I have rug burn on my left forearm and I'm going to have a nasty bruise on my hip and butt in a few days. I also have a nasty claw mark/bruise from when I tried to rescue my cat from a dog on Saturday. When it rains, it pours, huh? I'm trying not to get down, but sometimes it's hard. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() ok...so my bike has had a cateye since I bought it, but it's on the front wheel. Kinda silly for me to leave it there when most of my rides are trainer, right? Any trickiness to moving it to back wheel? |

The only question I can think of is if the signal has enough range as it'll be farther away. I know of cateye, but not as familiar with their stuff. Older or more entry level things may not be as strong there, but don't know until you try. |

I haven't put it on Fi yet (still avoiding the drainer) but last winter I had a set up on the front for outside and I had an old cateye on the back for the drainer. I left the magnetic piece on the spoke but had the receiver set up on velcro that I could easily attach for trainer rides then I just set the computer on a nearby table because the cord didn't reach to the cockpit. Does that make sense? |

That just sucks. (1) (possible) stress fracture, (2) rug burn and bruise and (3) cat rescue injuries. Enough already! {{hugs}} |

Kinda silly for me to leave it there when most of my rides are trainer, right? Any trickiness to moving it to back wheel? Not all of the Cateye will read on the back well. You have to have the correct sensor and the range (if wireless) might not be long enough. Alternately, the cords for a front sensor aren't usually long enough for the back. When I purchased my previous two computers (upgraded with the new bike), I made sure that they were rear wheel compatible. They're always mounted on the rear wheel, so no complication with the trainer. |

[That's one of the reasons I'm glad I don't have stairs in my house. - falling down them would be a way of life! Sorry you've had it so rough recently, I'll keep good thoughts that you don't have a stress fracture. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() A couple of completely random thoughts from the weekend: Salty, I watched a show about the woman that lives at the pyramid on top of Smith Tower. That is pretty cool. Why do Brits take out R's at the end of words that have them and put them on words that don't? USA Pro Challenge was awesome (even on TV) and Sagan is a BEAST! Yanti, contrats on 50,000. I'm truly glad you have so much to say. |

I am with you on the Brit "R" thing. |

MAN so much going on here - Happy national DOG day - MASTIFF LOVE! I'm greyhound owner myself but she's not allowed on the couch. Yanti I'm so excited to watch your virtual progress in Japan! To everyone else - thanks for continuing to make me feel welcome! I'm having a horribly busy day at the office today - more later ![]() |
