Danette, nice to see you back.

Linda, great news!  The power of the human body is amazing...especially in kids.

Welcome back Dannett!

Linda, the one positive thought I had when reading about what happened is how resilient the body of a child is.  Kids can do things that are not possible in adults.  So glad you are all home.

Linda - that is great news so far - I will not stop praying for your son, you and your family though!

Dannett - Welcome Home!  Just do what you enjoy - don't make triathlons a stress factor in your life - we do this to relax

I will be happy with anything under 1:40, really happy under 1:30 and thrilled with under 1:25. My running is not what it was but I have started to slowly build it up. My real goal is to drink after the run at fgump's house (another local BT'er)!

roni_runnw - 2009-10-21 9:20 AM Hi all! I've been a bit scarce lately because my laptop is out of commission and my BB isn't too BT friendly. Congrats to all the racers last weekend! Good luck on your mary this weekend Tony! You're going to kick azz!!!

I'm running the Columbia River Power Marathon on Saturday as a training run. Just going to take it easy and see if I can save enough of my legs to run the Tri-Cities Marathon on Sunday. Luckily, they have race morning registration for Sunday's mary, so I can see how I feel before committing. If I can pull it off I'll be a marathon maniac and well prepared to run 50k

I was nodding my head and thought "WOW, that makes a lot of sense to use a marathon for a long training run for a 50 miler", then I hit the part about doing the second one a day later and fainted.  Be careful!

50 miler or 2 marathons in 2 days?  WOWSERS..  I saw this 17.5 mile swim in another thread and didn't realize people can race these distances.. http://www.nycswim.org/Event/Event.aspx?Event_ID=1911  I wonder if they have aid stations..  also if you look in 08's results only one person finished..

Running question for the big boys and former big boys....  when you were doing your weekly long runs, did your joints hurt more the next day.  I did my 6.25 mile run yesterday morning and the insides of my knees hurt today - I am hobbling around today.  Hurts to stand up, hurts to start walking but gets better as I move a little...  Any insight...

OK I'm not a "big" boy but here is my .02 worth.  I have run into (so to speak) this type of pain. For me turns out is still a core issue. The solas muslae runs down through the core/groin area and if it is weak it can cause pain on the inside of the knee. Also tight quads can contribute to the pain. . If you have a roller you can use it on the thigh area to work the muscles out. If you aren't in pain you're not doing it right.  It is a good odea to seee someone who is knowledgable about this area so they can assess the correct issue. One othr issue could be too quick a jump in distanes. If you are increasing at too quick a pace you will have legs issues.

Roni you're a little bent   runing a marathon as a training run and then going out the next day to do it all over again.  Truly amazing

No idea on the price, don't use looks.

As far as stainless steel spindle I would assume that those have better chances of not rusting.  Not sure what else they would make a spindle out of though, maybe Titanium, which wold be more expensive.

They make the spindles out of Chrome Moly.

Anyone looking for HED Jet 50's?  Someone on the Mid Atlantic Bike Racing Assoc mailing list sent out a for sale this morning.

350 for the set.  They are 5 years old

Also they were selling a ren 575 disc for 400 bucks

Both of those are awesome prices, I am just not currently in the market for a set or the disc. (but am looking for a front tri-spoke if someone has one : ))

Let me know, stuff on this list seems to go fast.

I guess what I was asking(I know we talked about it a couple of months ago) but what pedals should I get. What are you all using? I know TYony is a speedplay guy, but I'm not ready for them yet!! I'm still a rookie.

If you are really debating I would go to your LBS and have them put your bike on the trainer and have them bring out speedplay, look, whatever and set them up on your shoes and try them out.

Yeah you pay a bit more by going to the LBS but having someone switch out your cleats, adjusting them correctly for you is well worth it.

There isn't anything advanced or not with speedplay.  TBH I have never used anything but spd's on my mountain bike and speedplays on my road bike.  Some folks don't like the float that you can have on speedplays but I have the Zero's so you can adjust the float to your liking (float = the amount your foot can rotate out while clipped in)

I like them because I can clip in on either side, don't have to make sure that they are any specific direction.  Only thing for tri's is if you run with shoes on the speedplay clamping mechanisim is on the shoe so a bit more there to work with.

I started with Speed Plays and have switched to Looks Keos.  I chose Speed Plays orginially b/c I was told they were the easiest to clip in/out of, but I always had trouble with my right foot.  Switched to the Looks and I'll never go back.  Personally I find them easier to clip in/out of and I like the larger platform for my foot to rest upon.  I feel like I have a bigger base under my foot to press on, especially when climbing.  The Speed Plays gave me hot spots.  Just my 2 cents. And I think that is a reasonable price for the Looks.

I was a Time guy, but switch to Look Keo's a yer ago. I like them because of the 4.5 degrees of play and the larger pedal surface. I wear a size 11.5 running shoe and the larger pedal give more more comfort and stability. Hope that helps.

Trevor I think I have a discount code for Tri sports somewhere.  I'll find it and send it to you or better yet I'll post on here for everyone.  The are 109 there so might save you some cash.

oh your question.  pedals.  not sure either as i'm in the market for my road bike.  but i'm going used i think.  some recalls on older look keos if you go that route so heads up.

Hi All

For those of us who were emailing back and forth yesterday, someone has the "V" word.  I have gotten no less than 100 emails since yesterday morning.  Anyone else? know how to get rid of it? The emails look something like this (and the to name changes each time):

The message or an attachment did not reach the intended recipient(s).
