Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I wandered into the sporting goods store at lunch today to buy goggles. "Hey look, they have running shoes, I must go try some on". No, I didn't walk out with a pair, but I did try on a pair of Brooks Pure Flow's and the Pure Cadence as well. Actually, one on one foot, one on the other at one point, trying to find the difference. I have been considering a lower drop then my current 10 mm. Does anyone have any experience with the Pure line from Brooks? Any info would be appreciated. |

The only issue I've had so far was the first day I tried them without socks (I forgot them) and got a blister on the back of my ankle. My experience so far is limited but I like them. |

Some specific comments: The sole is more stiff like the NB Minimus Trail I have, unlike say a Nike Free that has a super flexy sole. I have worn them with socks, without socks and on all different surfaces. They tended to be my go-to shoe. Tough enough to run on the trails with and "responsive" enough for the track (but who am I kidding, I wear my green monsters on the track too.) They breathe well and are good in the rain due to the material they are made of. They have updated them twice since my first pair and I have heard rumor that some don't like the upgrades. I can't speak to that. Edited by Asalzwed 2013-08-26 2:25 PM |

I didn't get to run in them much because I got hurt shortly after that. However, my doc and PT both think the shoes had little or no effect on my injury. So I still have them and will probably try them again soon. I tried on gen 2 at the store this summer and didn't like them as much ![]() |

When I dropped them in the recycle bin, they looked new. I don't really pay attention to heel drop. |

It was like a golf ball (exaggeration) was under there. Or more like a couple of nickels. I really want to like them, they were otherwise really comfortable. |

Yeah, it was in a weird place, the outside, mid foot. I'm thinking this may have convinced me to continue my search. While I love new shoes, the search for perfection is killing me |

I've been meaning to buy the Pure Drifts (and some new T7s for HM-M) |

I've been meaning to buy the Pure Drifts (and some new T7s for HM-M) I didn't get the same mileage from the Asics 2170's that I got from my Saucony Guide's. I keep trying different stuff, NB's didn't last. Guide's were changed (and I would still be in them otherwise), Asics didn't last, etc. I'm like the friggin' Goldilocks of shoes. |

I hate when I find a pair that I like, really start to feel comfortable, then WHAM, they're telling me to go buy more. I'm with you, comfort is king. I really need to fins a sugar daddy, er mommy. |

Joanne, sorry to hear about your Marathon, but glad to hear that you should be able to do the 10k. Jo, congrats on the long ride, that is awesome! Chad, I hope your race went well; your friend is lucky to have a friend such as you. Elesa, very cool about your not-for-profit. Sounds like a great cause. Yanti, have you packed your bike? Jen, I really hope it isn't a stress fracture, but if it is, take care of it. Two words: Aqua jogging. Sorry to hear about your other injuries...and I hope your kitty is ok too! I think that catches me up.
Oh. And yes, Janyne, I am $600+ poorer... |

Kinda silly for me to leave it there when most of my rides are trainer, right? Any trickiness to moving it to back wheel? Not really. The only question I can think of is if the signal has enough range as it'll be farther away. I know of cateye, but not as familiar with their stuff. Older or more entry level things may not be as strong there, but don't know until you try. It is wireless ... right? Really basic Velo 5. By looks of the cord wrapped around the brake cable, I don't think it's "wireless". |

It seems a little narrower than the Pure Flow in the toe box which seems to be a common criticism. I have no problem with them if I wear thinner socks but can't manage to wear them with a thicker sock. I barely notice the change in drop with theses shoes. I also have a pair of Pure Drift which can have a 0 drop if you take the insole out. I like the shoe, but it doesn't seem to be a good match for me these days. I wear them for short and easy runs because I need more cushioning on long runs. Have never tried the Pure Cadence, aren't these phasing out? For a traditional shoe that doesn't feel heavy the Ghost is fantastic.
Yes, I wear all of these.....and the Launch which is due to come back in January. No I am not independently wealthy, I get a pair here and there and just add them into the rotation. |

Is it worth it to know about how many miles I'm putting in on the trainer each week? Do I tackle the mess in hopes that it works? It's obviously not wireless, so I'd have to wrap the cord around the top tube. For me it would be worth it, but more to have an idea of the effort than the mileage. Time works quite well for duration. I'm not sure if you're someone who wants to mess with that sort of thing. |
