week 7 of the IronFit training plan is in the bank, and I'm pretty happy. tired, but happy. Next week is recovery and I need it. I've been shamelessly adding to the biking in the plan because it is way below my current fitness and I don't want to regress. So far, so good. How was your May? |

Not a gret month. I had a half marathon mid month and had a bit of a taper down then taper up for that. After the half I was away from the 22 to 28 and then came back with a cold. Seem to be feeling better already so hopefully it won't last too long. |

Master 1779 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread PennState - 2010-05-31 6:30 AM Just curious as it is a topic on another tri board. Is anyone concerned about IMFL actually being able to have a swim if the BP oil spill isn't stopped until August? The other board was discussing that a few people had decided on IM Cozumel instead. Curious to see what IMFL racers think about this? Thanks
PennState- I read that thread yesterday. Yes, I am a little concerned. IM Cozumel won't work with my schedule. I'm normally a happy cat when the swim portion of any race is canceled. But not for an IM distance. I don't know what I'll do if they cancel the swim. |

Curious to see what IMFL racers think about this? Thanks Well, I'd be upset...obviously. But what can you do? I haven't looked into alternates though I should. I doubt I would do Cozumel...most of the reason I was doing IMFL was because I live an hour away....Cozumel would get expensive in a hurry. |

I would hope/think that the offficials at IMFL are thinking about a plan B, but I couldn't imagine what that would be for a race of this size. |

Not bad considering I spent the first 3 weeks of the month in a hotel! |

I had some bike issues in May...and work got out of control. I mean, sheesh...you'd think we were fighting a war or something. Seriously, we just got busy for a bit there in May and I kinda fell apart. Oh well! So run/swim were on par with April but my bike numbers stunk. I just keep figuring that I at least am getting to ride. There was a point at which I wasn't sure if I was going to get to bring the bike. And FWIW, on my one real long ride this month I had to stop twice to hang out in bunkers due to folks lobbing mortars at the base. After I got back on the bike the second time I thought to myself, "Well at least during IMFL there shouldn't be anyone shooting rockets at me." |

Elite 3495 SE | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Nice to see some of you starting to kick it up and sorry for those that struggled. It was a terrible month comparatively for me. Dad died and was back and forth from Georgia to Philly twice. Gonna miss the old lug but he would want me to Max it out at IMFL. Gulf Coast and my new tatt also took some volume from me.

I do this for fun if race needs to be altered so be it. If they drop the swim 3000 folks will be searching for another race. Options....B2B or Cozumel and if money was not an issue maybe I'd register for a second race for a back up plan but that isn't the case for me. If we can't swim I'll still do the race. I'm not worrying about it now as why waste my time with that? |

Pay no attention to the run and swim numbers...I'm happy with the current bike volume tho.
Hopefully IMFL has some smart race directors and they'll be able to figure something out with the swim. Maybe move it into the bay if there's no oil there? Either way if the swim is canceled I won't be racing so I hope it gets sorted out. |

Member 34 Philly | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I'm primarily an optimist, but have to admit I'm sweating this oil spill a little. I would be really disappointed if it spoiled the swim part of this event. Especially since this will be my first IM, it carries more weight with me. In looking at Google maps of Panama City Beach, it does seem like there is a viable alternative in doing the swim in the bay instead. But it looks like logistics would be much more complicated. Transition area would have to be moved to the other side of the island. A bay swim wouldn't be that bad - water conditions would be predictably more calm than the ocean swim... As for training totals, I haven't been posting mine yet, as I'm in short-term training mode for the Philly OLY race at the end of June. So I've been training for those distances for now, with the plan that this will be a base for me to build on IM training distances through the summer. I hope everyone else's training is going well. Member 74 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I too am an optimist, but occasionally a realist I just e-mailed Ironman public relations to ask about a back up plan. I'll let you know what I hear. When there is a big storm, or really bad weather, and they cancel the swim, that's just not something they can plan for. For this, however, they have many months to work on a solution to this problem and they should be. I would encourage all of you to take a few seconds to e-mail them and express your concern and curiosity about the swim portion. We are customers. And the more they hear from us, the more likely they are to act. |
