I didn't run at all and then went out still did my 14 miler today. It wasn't pretty the last 2.5 miles but it is done. On a sad note, my cousin buried her 9 year old on Thursday. It was so tragic. They lost a daughter to cancer 4 years ago and are expecting their 8th child in February. If you could all include them in your prayers they could certainly use them. Their last name is Strauss. I really cannot fathom how you breath after losing one child, let alone 2. Will do. I don't know what is happening in the world. The son of the family we bought our present house from committed suicide a month ago, and my SIL's nephew, (who we just ate with on Christmas day) took pills and antifreeze a few day later in an attempt to take his life. Accidents and disease are one thing, but taking one's own life is beyond bizzare. The senior partner at the first law firm I worked for lost 2 of his 6 children within two years. They were adults though. They had almost gotten back to normal after the first when the 2nd died in a crash on the Mass Pike. I will pray for your cousin and and her family to have the strength and courage to move on and to thrive down the line. I hope the other children are coping ok. Edited by DougRob 2012-01-07 1:52 PM |

Chatham Ontario | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN -CLOSED DUE TO TRAININGJohn thanks for the input on what you do. Suzy and Dan. Thank you so much. You two have never steered me wrong yet and managed to help me get through my issues last year. My knee is much better then it was last year. I fear I favor it knowing I have a weak knee. But I am in this triathlon stuff for health and well being. I will never be an age grouper so I am ok with favoring and building more base. I have done some tempo work and I think later in the season when I start looking at quality workouts. I will use the odd tempo run (and by tempo I mean maybe 10-15 seconds faster then I normally would run) I did a half marathon clinic through some friends in town and I HATED the track. I am with you Suzy. I run on the roads and I prefer to be there covering some ground and taking in things on my run as well. I suspect they used a track because it was easier for them to manage 18 people doing workouts. I have many years left in me to do this safely and to get faster. So Thank you. |

Regular 459![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN -CLOSED DUE TO TRAININGSpanky, I just wanted to comment on the flatness of where you're running. I truly had never experienced anything SO flat until I ran in Chatham. If I paid attention to it though, it was a really good lesson on even pacing. You got good advice on the speedwork from people far more experienced then me, so I won't try to pretend I'm smart and add anything.
So, treadmill running. Does anyone feel like they need walk breaks more on the TM? I am sure it's in my head. I can run a half marathon without walking, but on the treadmill, I feel like I need the walk break every 10 minutes. I extended it to 15 minutes yesterday at least. Not too worried about it, as I figure I still get the run benefit even if I walk 1 minute every 10-15. Mainly an observation. |

I hope you had a blast (and your foot held up)!!!! Onward to the marathon! Thank you, my foot held up, TG, I did my little 8' run, 1' walk all the way to the end. I did stop six times to get pictures with Daisy and Donald Duck, Mickey, Chip and Dale, and more, never had to wait more than a minute each....unfortunately there were characters I was unfamiliar with on the second half, so couldn't stop to rest as much. Big negative split which is always fun! Onward to the parks and then do it all again tomorrow and then some. I did the dreaded ice bath, wahhhhhhhhhhh! Have a great Saturday, all. Spanky, speed work is really hard on the body...my two cents are to increase your base and then consider slowly start adding strides, maybe even just a few 50 yards or so of 5k effort, with adequate rest/recovery...a little goes a long way.
Great job, that's pretty speedy specially for stopping for pictures!
Good Luck tomorrow! |

along the same lines, sam.... jarrett and i were laughing at kims time this morning while talking about how she probably stopped for pics. Equally amazing is that a really fast chick can stick to her plan and slow herself down so she can continue to heal. A lot of people would have a) not run at all if they couldn't be their fastest or b) not stuck to the plan and regretted it later. Nice job Twin! |

HAHA I can run 20km and only get an elevation gain of about 8 inches. I might run up to Komoka area where my friend lives this spring to do some hills with him. Both running and on the bike as well. I find hills don't hurt me at all and for the one hour drive I can change up my bike ride or run. |

Just back from a few days up the coast - place called Rainbow Beach, very peaceful and relaxed. Managed to get a little trail run and hike in most days and did some swimming.
