Yep!  Live, love, grow, learn...  Sort of what I live by.

Work?  Even though I like it enough and it MAY be considered important, is more of a means to pay bills.  I often thought to be independently wealthy would be fantastic.  I could focus on training, art, learning a language (learning in general).  Probably work with charities (Habitat for humanity or something - maybe donate time to training/educating less privileged).

Hey, if the wife hits it big in the acting world, maybe I still could!

Please know I was not bagging on folks with little or no education. My father only has a high school degree yet started, owned and ran a successful company for 20 years. Trust me I know education is not the measuring stick.

EDIT: But I do want to add that being an independent person in terms of educating yourself, gaining experience, networking, etc. and not relying on anyone else to do that FOR YOU - can set you up for successes down the road. Can we all agree on that? I think that was my original thought process.

I was up to 12 on the left coast.  I don't know how the right coast managed it.

I went to bed happy after the Iggles beat Washington.

Football season started??

Crap, someone forgot to notify the Browns.

I want to take you guys to a dive bar that we like with AMAZING pizza.  It's not as cool as the speed skater bar, but food is amazing and drinks are cheap.

We could hike Charleston or a cool climb called Turtlehead if you want some exercise.

This is Cord you're talking about.......he hasn't seen exercise is years.

The only turtlehead he'll have is after a night of excessive eating and drinking.

He'll need to be careful of the shell closing.  Ouch.

Yup.  When the wife moved out to be with me, I was handling all the bills and such as she networked and got into the dance/performing scene here in Vegas.

She got the jokes about finding her sugar daddy when she left the dive bar she made 10 bucks a night at to supplement her dancing career at Colorado Ballet Co.  (not that I'm any kind of sugar daddy - I'm poor).  She got a little annoyed at the judging and jokes because she works her ARSE off.  I admire her for that because it's even harder to go hustle work instead of just showing up 9-5 everyday.  You have to hustle, hustle, hustle just to get the next job when it could be SO easy to just say "I don't feel like it".

She only has a year+ of college but lots of dance/acting training but works harder than most people I know.  She hates to turn down work and often has to work 20 hours straight, or all night.

I couldn't care less about what people think of me, personally.  But it hurts me when people might think of HER being uneducated or doing things that don't seem to be valuable like working at conventions, acting in a reality show or TV commercial, some show in Vegas, or a showgirl to take photos with race finishers at R & R marathon.  I mean, it's not like saving someone's life in an ER or something.  I get that.

Wow, have you guys ever had a noticeable moment like this?:

When I worked at a different engineering firm over 3 years ago, I would walk and get lunch with a coworker almost every day.  Well, after three years, he was looking for a new job and we were hiring so we brought him on and he started yesterday.

We walked down the street to get lunch and talked and we both commented that it was so familiar, it was like we did it just last week.

Ever just relive "old times" and have it feel SO familiar that it's almost spooky?  It's amazing something that happened 3-4 years ago can feel like yesterday.

Bad.  Just your basic bar selection - but the pizza is voted best in Vegas and I can't argue.

Yardhouse if you want a beer selection (it's a chain) - over 50 on tap.  Or Holsteins at Cosmo for amazing burgers and rare brews.  A bit pricey, but turned me on to some small batch stuff.

Ooooo, Or Hofbrauhause  - That could be good times.  Been years since I been there.

I took Tony to Hash House a-go-go - pretty good.  We got all you can eat sushi, some great Korean BBQ places you cook on a table hibachi, A fun place called Franks Tiki Lounge with beach drinks.  A cool crawfish place where they just dump all the food on the table and you eat with your hands.

I'm thinking a pub crawl in old Vegas.  Cheaper drinks and WAY cool atmosphere - not your mega casino club stuff.

There's a rocking breakfast place in old Vegas too.

Good pizza off the beaten path may be worth it, what's the name of the place?  Finding good beer selection isn't always necessary, just an added bonus.

Getting a local's input on a good breakfast place is key, what's the name of the place in old Vegas?

Moondoggies is the pizza joint/bar.

Eat (yeah, not very creative) is the breakfast place.

Both are really good.

For pizza ON the strip, there is cool little place down a hallway in a casino (I forget which on, but the wife will know).  It's unmarked so you have to know it's there - but great pizza by the slice to go.  No tables or anything.

Congrats Chris. It's encouraging to learn that there are many ways to success. I'm personally having a hard time with that lately.

I think Step 1 begins with defining what Success is to you.    I'm probably just talking out me arse on that, but it's what comes to mind.

Here I sit with a Masters degree and 30 years if work experience and have been turned down in 4 face to face opportunities which I am fully qualified for. Plus; job hunting is rife with scams, thieves and con artists. You get so down you're tempted to investigate them. It's really sucking me into a downward spiral.

Last week"s bike trip was a welcome respite from the abyss of suckitude.

Step one is cutting a hole in the box.

(but really....that's what anyone needs to do first, is figure out what success means to them).

It's still a fickle market (at least for me).  You have to be patient.  I was out of work for something like 14-16 months?  I used it to train and do a lot of the chores of the house that I didn't have time for.  A lot of those things you had to pay someone else for, I would do myself.  If I wasn't bringing in money, at least I could cut down on what we spent it on.  Cook at home all the time, for example.

Does she do this in person too.....or just on FB?

I've got some very 'ranty' FB peeps but they're totally different in person.

If she's only like that on FB, I'd just block/ignore her posts from your feed and carry on the friendship.
