SSMinnow - 2009-10-28 9:04 PM I think I forgot to ask the question...who is racing this weekend?  This article might be helpful to get your through any tough times.

Too funny - I was just getting ready to post that article.

I'm racing this weekend.  Just a little 5K - one last little speedy run to sharpen up the legs.

hey i have a 5k to so lets race!  i also have a 10k following but i'm actually still on the fence about it.  we'll see.  1/2 hour between races.    i just need a costume.  its a family affair so the fat transvestite idea people are talking about for me on the texas boards won't work.  hmmmmm.

suzy thanks for the article.  i had a hard time getting past the picture then she starts off talking about kara.  difficult read when other things are on teh mind ;-)

sam.  the office, football, post season baseball, and lots of kids shows.

Race, huh?  Ok so what are the terms?

And kids shows are a given for anyone w/ a tv and toddlers!  I'd say that a DVR is one of the best potty training tools ever.  My son never has "I can't get up to go the bathroom b/c I'll miss my show accidents."  He just yells "PAUSE IT" as he darts from the room to the bathroom.

oh lets not talk about potty issues right now.  we're having a bit of trouble with jack.

terms.  Sealed     really?    wait a second...  your husband might read this so i'll stop.    a beer in galveston?  edit or what tony suggests.

I'm fine w/ whatever.  But is it straight up time to determine the winner?

Hey Reuben

Is it the achilles or the soleous?  Pinch the tendon right above your heel.  Is it sore?  I think going back and looking at those pages would be a good idea, but often times the soleous is what is causing issues with the achilles.  You really need to spend some time doing deep tissue work in that area to get it to loosen up.  Stretching along WILL NOT work.  I have the TP roller and use it religiously in that area every night.  Let me know if you have any questions once you wade through the info.

Suzy

I have no issues with my soleus, that I can tell.  There is no pain, stiffness, tightness, nothing in that area.  The pain is right at the back of the heal - like where the tendon attaches.

My favorites:
- LOST (all the way, baby but soon to be over)
- FlashForward
- Sanctuary (scFi)
- Modern Family (? - it's growing on me)
- any FOOTBALL game except the Redskins b/c they are an embarrassment to the NFL (I'm a little bitter right now)

Psych
Monk (last season though)
White Collar
Burn Notice

I can't think of anything on the major networks that I care to make an effort to see - not quite true - I really like the Office, but I don't make a point to watch of have the DVR set for it.

The local Tri store has free runs on wednesday nights. I have gone in the past, but they have a new coach running them now. I went for the first time last night. Vicki is one of those HIGH energy people. She told us that she does a different type of run each week and tonight was a tempo run. We would warm up for a mile or so, run a mile at 85%, another mile easy, a 2nd tempo mile and a cool down. The fastest gut was there as part of his training for B2B. As we completed the first tempo run, I came up the hill and was the 5th to finish. In view of my size, I don't think Vicki expected me to finish the mile that fast. The second tempo mile I finished 4th. If was fun. I liked her attitude in was infectious. I will go back next week if it fits my schedule.

Yes, lol, i do sometimes think you guys don't get too much work done in the morning!  I like to check in before i go off to do my workouts but when i get to work to post them there are usually a few pages to catch up on!  But I wish I had seen your guys' posts about the 5k or 10k, I would have ran an extra .4 miles this morning to get to 10k

The article re: Kara and pain.  I felt that way for about 5 minutes this morning in Z4.  It is so hard to get my HR that high when not in a race.  I think she is an awesome runner...did you guys catch the 2009 Boston marathon finish? She was right up there with the 1st and 2nd place women right til the end...but couldn't quite hold them off.  I just watched it on you tube yesterday.

Oh, and there is a great routine called MERTL?  I think it is Kara demonstrating the stretching and hip flexor routine for her coach.  I will try to look up the link.  I think it has been really helpful to keep my glute/hip issues at bay.

I'll bet that if the video involves Kara's gluts and hips, John has it bookmarked.

I watched Boston live from home this year.  It was pretty cool to watch.  With a mile left, she tossed her gloves to the side almost to say ok now it's game time.  It was sad to see her fade right at the end though.

Not racing this weekend, but running a 5k and the 1mi fun run before it.  It is a family affair - wife, daughter, and I are doing the fun run and then I am lining up for the 5k - would like to beat 29 minutes on the 5k.

BTW - I was finally able to get back into running today after a week and a half being out of commission with a hurt knee.  YIPPEEE....  It's going to be a push to be ready for my half marathon now...

Sorry to be away from the group.  Things are going pretty well here.
Connor is one tough guy...he's doing ok!  We are still worried about his injuries, but we now have to also worry about containing him - this is good      He is a VERY active guy, and this sitting around resting/recovering and not running around, playing sports, and "living" the way he is use to is tough for him.   But we'll "happily" deal with trying to contain him.  I am beginning to get to the point where I am thankful it was not worse.

So, right now we are planning on heading to FL.  IMFL has been the last thing on my mind so I am very unprepared.  I did take my bike in this week just in case we ended up making the trip, but other than that I have done nothing.  I'm not nervous, no dreams/nightmares, no lists made, nothing......I don't even know what I am going to wear   And, I am very calm about it.   It's funny, the whole year has been built around this race, yet now it seems ho-hum.  I'm sure once we get to PCB it will all sink in, but right now not a nerve, nothing.

Thanks to everyone for the support, kind words, inspires and prayers during our scary time.  It really meant a lot.
This group is like a family, and I might add a pretty awesome family.  If I didn't get back to anyone, I am sorry.  I didn't do a real good job there.  But please know everything/everyone was comforting.  Thank you!

Now, hope everyone has a great weekend!
Have fun if you are doing any Halloween racing

You are in luck!!!  I watched the race the last two times I was in Boston, very fun atmosphere to have people run down  Boylston through the finish line.  I guess we will see you there in '11!!! Cool
