Sugar you look so happy to be on the run.

Doug: I don't think I want to run into you in a dark alley. Pretty serious on your run.

John:  hmmm what can I say. Looking good big boy... Congrats on the size 36. Oh oh I do like the attempt at making the nose aerodynamic. You know.... a smooth air flow to the lungs.

looks like a mob of angry runners is about to throw down with the grey hoodie.  look at you leading the charge with your hands on the hips glaring at him as he tells you where the nearest park is for you to "jog".  clearly he wants you off the streets.  one of my concern's though would be yellow shirt guy.  yeah he looks tough but why isn't he up there in grey hoodie's face like you are.  watch him, i bet he runs as soon as the first fist is thrown!

and you look awesome... of course!

I think he is taking it in stride.  I actually think the hardest adjustment is still having Kim home at all times of the day.  He used to sleep most of the day away and no one bothered him.  Now there is movement in the house.

He is still included in a lot of family activities.  He is also a great subject for me to mess around with my camera.  He just looks at me like I am an idiot (you guys didn't know he was that smart did you !!!)..... I did update the blog this morning with a few more pictures...

Anyone listen to the EN podcast on outseason swimming?  As a weaker swimmer, I cannot imagine totally eliminating it, but do see value on focusing on the biggest bang for the buck.  Thoughts???

IMO it I think it depends on how weak your swimming is.  I need to keep at it, not going to increase it but not reducing it because I still have so much further I can go with it.  Granted it will still be small gains but I am not racing IM's so less time to make up the time in HIM's and Oly's.

a more holistic approach might be the way to go.  instead of thinking about it a x minutes / 100 gain, consider the gains in the run and bike assumed from the off season swim training as well.

I agree with Tony.  My swimming could use some serious improvement, so I cannot just drop it.  Maybe it is just a mental thing and starting up again in 3 or 4 months wouldn't make any  difference whatsoever in the overall scheme of things, but I will keep up with the masters 2-3x/week.  Plus that, I am enjoying the structured group workouts more than I ever thought possible.

At the same time, I think the bike is where I can really improve, and am excited to see how we do with that.  I have a 20 TT next week to see where we are with my bike fitness.  Oh Joy!

Maybe I'm not allowed to comment since I'm a swimmer. But for sure for me with some regular swimming I quickly reach a point of diminishing returns, IMO. Sure, I may get a wee bit faster, but not a ton and it won't necessarily translate to OWS. I have not listened to the podcast.

I do think swimming is a fantastic sport for recovery and balance. Few things feel as wonderful on my legs and spine as a swim after a long run or a grueling day. I LOVE it on the ankles, hip flexors, etc. All that said, I have not been using it as recovery lately during my run training because I'm too busy squeezing in other (non-tri) things I enjoy now before the weather turns crap AND before I'm back in IM-training mode. I'm really focusing on B-A-L-A-N-C-E, while running a fair amount.

Suzy, I have totally drank the EN "koolade" and am starting the 20 week intermediate outseason plan next week and plan on following the program to the letter.  That being said, I am out of the pool until at least January after the 1/2 marathon I have scheduled.  Any extra time I have will be put towards running.  I may swim once in a while for balance and recovery, we'll see.

I guess we will see what happens as I start to prepare for Knoxville and get back into the pool.

Do I get to comment??

Interesting responses so far.  I'm not surprised that the strong swimmers support it and the weaker ones are less likely to consider it.    I am hoping this year, instead of spending 5 days in the pool in the off-season for 30-40 minutes at a crack, I can do Master's twice a week for an hour and call it good enough until I start IM training. Got a response back from my coach, and he didn't support it at all for someone swimming slower than a 1:50/100.  His comment was it wouldnt allow me to improve, but maintain where I am at currently.  Not something either one of us want to see.  Of course, I'm lucky.  I have a little more time than most to workout.

Good luck Dino!!  I do like a lot of what EN has to say so will be eager to watch your progress leading up to REV3!

So for those that are thinking about Rev3, what distance are you planning on doing?

I am pretty sure I am in for the Oly and not the HIM, leaves more time for partying...
