I did some calculations based on her time to the 2nd mat, and she needs to average 15:50 per mile after that 2nd split to make it under 17 hours. Since her split before that was 17:51 per mile, I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

that's what i was thinking at first but looking at some of the finisher splits now.. I'm hoping there is an error somewhere.. many have close to the same bike/swim split and some are showing a 20min/mile run split on that 2nd mat

Yeah, I didn't want to be the first to post the numbers, but that's correct--if she got to the third run split (which appears to be down for the count) by 10:30pm, she's probably okay. But her pace/time at the 2nd split left her needing to make up over 29 minutes over the last 14.2 miles to make the cutoff. Doable, but she'll have to dig deep.

hazmaster - 2008-04-14 12:41 AM I'm staying up! Pepsi and sit ups until I see Elaine finish! Not much longer now people!

I'm still hanging with you and everyone still out there. The very least I can do for people who are out there struggling, longer than everyone else, pushing to the last drop.

keeping fingers crossed for her.

the last guy over the mat #1722 is from my area and just finished at 15:44  check out his times for a comparison  his run is showing a 30 min/mile so I'm really hoping there is an error and everyone is closer than we think

How is PirateGirl doing...does it look like she will finish?  I'm guessing she still hasn't gotten to the third run split yet.  Any news from the course itself?

I don't think the third split is working.  There was a couple of timing mats that didn't beep when I ran across them. I looked at the race timing guy standing there and he said don't worry about it.

Thought I had lost my chip!

I think there is a problem with their mats.  One guy who just came in pulled out a 1:28 swim, 7 hr bike and then had from the 1st mat to 2nd mat a 30 min/mile.  I'm think Elaine was moving just a bit quicker.  His first run split was in the 16's.  She's got to be doing ok, compared to that.

That's encouraging...If that's true and Elaine held close to her pace at the 1st split, she should be finishing sometime in the next 10-15 min.

Well... I still think it's off, but based on PLACE at the 2nd split, she's about 100 places behind those coming in now - so I'm not sure if she'll make it or not,  think she's going to have to pick it up, and it sounds like it's been a really rough day out there.

Hmm...Jenifer finished right about when her 2nd run split/pace would have predicted (16:04)...so the jury's out on that second mat...

i know.. for some people it's right on the money, for others it' seems way off,, the only thing for sure is that last two are out.
