Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Had a longer than planned run but I loved it. I went on another section of trail and planned to run it up to where it crossed the main road and take the road back down. I forgot it would put me on the far side of the guard shack and I would need my ID to get through, so I had to take the trail back home. Sadly my watch died before the run was completely over so HR is off. Milage was easy to figure out though. Nice 600ft elevation change over a short span.

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Went out for an LSM today. That's Long Slow Miserable run in the rain, only got in 9.1 miles, was planning on 10-11 but I was soaked, cold and amazed I got as far as I did. And tired after yesterday's tri. I might try and squeeze in 30 minutes on the trainer before the night's over.

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Today we went and checked out the bike and run routes for tomorrow morning's tri. They're both multiple loops, so we didn't do the full distance. Cycled (gently) for nearly 40min, but only ran for 10min, so I guess that doesn't count for the challenge. Now to sort out my transition bag... - Gabe: S 3 / B 4 / R 3 / Rest Days 0 ; Total = 10 ; 14:12'56" |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Philly's Broad Street Run is an only in Philly type of event. 10 miles and 40,000 people, which sold out in 5 hours - the nation's biggest 10 miler. The run is point to point from North Philly (urban) through Center City (Biz district) through South Philly (old school Italian) and finishes down in at the refurbished Naval Yard. The entire race is downhill with a -110 ft of elevation loss. This was a B race and I had no solid strategy or point of view. My goal was 1:12:00 and my stretch goal was 1:10:00 or 7:00 minute pace. Got to the event early and found my space in my corral. Weather was high 50s and overcast so it was perfect conditions to race. As I sat with my headphones on pre-race, I made the call to ditch them and take in scenery. I figured I better get used to it for my 70.3 in 5 weeks. Race started off real fast and I had to hold it back. After a couple of miles in, I knew I was stuck and needed to hit the porta-john. I made the call and went for it and lost 40 seconds of time. As the miles ticked by, I listened to the crowd and just let it set in - rock bands, gospel choirs and string bands (which I usually hate but it worked today). Mile 7 I started to suffer, but I knew at that point if I made it two more miles I could make hit home in sub 7:00 pace. Time. to HTFU. Made it through 7-9 and ran that last mile at 6:30. I finished at 1:08:44 or 6:52 pace. When I saw the final time online - goose bumps!!! In the scheme of things, these races mean nothing except that they confirm the importance of setting a goal and seeing it through to conclusion (which is actually pretty damn important). There are those races (and days in your life) when things come together and it all works. Today I am both humbled and blessed. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/175541013 - Gabe: S 3 / B 4 / R 3 / Rest Days 0 ; Total = 10 ; 14:12'56" Edited by JoePetto 2012-05-06 4:15 PM |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Great race Joe and impressive time! I just went out for a snack ride, 36 minutes doesn't really seem like a full ride, just a snack. Question for the group: What can you do when riding with slower riders to make it a better workout? - Andy: S 2 / B 3 / R 5 / Rest Days 1 ; Total = 11; 09:30'55" - Gabe: S 3 / B 4 / R 3 / Rest Days 0 ; Total = 10 ; 14:12'56" - Marcia: S 1 / B 4 / R 3 / Rest Days 0 ; Total = 8 ; 7:28'00" - Scott: S3 / B 1 / R 4 / Rest Day 0; Total = 8; 07:20'00 - Mitch: S 0 / B 4 / R 4 / Rest Days 0 ; Total = 8 ; 05:11'08" - JoeP: S 2 / B 3 /R 2 / Rest Days 1 ; Total = 7 ; 10:12'56" - Ernesto: S 2 / B 2 / R 2 / Rest Days 1 ; Total = 6 ; 08:20'47" - Jennie: S 1 / B 2 / R 3 / Rest Days 1 ; Total = 6 ; 04:44'12" - Jim: S 0 / B 3 / R 3 / Rest Days 1 ; Total = 6 ; 4:05'17" - Barry: S 1 / B 2 / R 2 / Rest Days 0 ; Total = 5 ; 04:48'33" - Samy: S 1 / B 3 / R 1 / Rest Days 1 ; Total = 5 ; 04:39'13" - David: S 1 / B 1 / R 3 / Rest Days 1 ; Total = 5 ; 04:10'26" - Markz: S 0 / B 1 / R 3 / Rest Days 3 ; Total = 4 ; 08:13'00" - Rachel: S 1 / B 2 /R 1 / Rest Days 2; Total = 4; 03:14'38" - Lynne: S 1 /B 1 / R 3 / Rest Days 1 ; Total= 5 ; 03:31'01 - Chris: S 0 / B 2 / R 2 / Rest Days 1 ; Total = 4 ; 02:45:00" - MatthewS: S 0 / B 2 / R 1 / Rest Days 1 ; Total = 3 ; 05:34'00" - Jackie: S 1 / B 1 / R 1 / Rest Days 1 ; Total = 3 ; 01:50'53" - Mike: S 1 / B 1 / R 0 / Rest Days 0 ; Total = 2 ; 02:30'00" - Adrian: S 0 / B 1 / R 1 / Rest days 1; Total = 2 ; 01:36'00" - Ted: S 0 / B 1 / R 1 / Rest Days 1 ; Total = 2 ; 01:30:00" Edited by Climbinggonzo 2012-05-06 4:32 PM |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Nice race Joe! Rachel, good luck with your tri tomorrow! I managed a 5.41 mile run in 52:20 this afternoon. It felt about as rough as yesterday's bike but I'm just hanging in there as I try to get back in the swing of it. |

Good luck tomorrow Rachel! Great Race Joe! Some day I hope to be that fast. Andy, wish I could help with your question. I'm usually the one hold the pace down. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() @Joe Petto: Holy S#!+, that is FAST!!! Congratulations, can you mentor me? @Andy: the best way to increase the effort in a slow group is to stay out of the slipstream, either 20 feet behind or pull the whole way (better to be in the back anyway, having people directly behind you decreases drag too). @Rachel: good luck tomorrow! triathlons on Mondays? it only happens here in Memorial Day. @Matthews: great race! you got stung by a bee getting to T2? that's some bad luck, mate! @everybody: don't forget that you MUST take one day off during the week at your leisure, if you however chose not to, you will have to choose which day you drop out of the count. This is for allowing recovery time and to keep the field leveled, do not neglect rest or you'll end up injured, burnt out at least. The weeks are counted Monday through Sunday, so today you should have at least one rest day in the bag. Edited by ernestov 2012-05-06 9:56 PM |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Joe - You're SMOKIN' fast - AWESOME RACE!!! Yesterday was a rest day - developed a shin splint in my left leg so no running Sat, Sun or Monday. Been icing and stretching all weekend. Managed to get to the pool this morning for 1200M and then follow up with 3x8' at 95% FTP on the drainer. Going to run an deasy 3 tomorrow morning to see how the leg responds. - Andy: S 2 / B 3 / R 5 / Rest Days 1 ; Total = 11; 09:30'55" Edited by dangremond 2012-05-07 6:29 AM |

On pace for a goal time of 2:15:00 for the first 8 miles and then the heat and humidity caught me and sent me quads into spasms. Ouch! Sun. Off Monday – 30 min. easy recovery swim - Andy: S 2 / B 3 / R 5 / Rest Days 1 ; Total = 11; 09:30'55" |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 6 Mile run @ MAF 1:21'08". Talk about consistency, last Monday was my first 6 miler (ramping up distance slowly) and I did it at 1:21'07"...So I was a full second slower this time, but my Avg HR was 2 BPM better and its was hotter today, so overall a good run - Andy: S 2 / B 3 / R 6 / Rest Days 1 ; Total = 12; 10:00'35" |
