Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Aug workouts: 12 1700yds in the pool at my parents gym (didn’t puke in the pool!!). It is salt water. It is weird to be that buoyant in the water. Then I spent an hour playing with the kids—teaching them how to do hand stands and flips in the water. Then tossing them across the pool. Frankly, I should count that as another workout! I’m tired now!! |

Felt pretty good. Right now I have it set up on the porch, which lacks my tv for entertainment, but is a heck of a lot easier to clean up at the end!! |

Yesterday did 1300y plus spin class and some strength work. Yard work today - typically this time of year there isn't much because everything is dormant from drought/heat but it's a rain forest here apparently.

Just under an hour out on some back country roads (read, not especially fast because gravel + road bike) where you gotta stop at every intersection lest you get run over by someone hidden by the corn. |

Regular 866 Central Coast, CA | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Wrapping up an on-call week at work, managed a couple short runs and bike rides. Looking forward to some longer routes now that I'm free of the "15 minute response time" until my next on-call week. My upcoming trail run is right around the corner! Looking forward to the event as this year they moved to a new location so I will run on new trails. |

2126 Baltimore, Maryland | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open August workouts: 8 Went to a Sprint class Saturday. Drank a lot this weekend and feel like I wasted a lot of it b/c of that, but had a lot of fun. Have a final I need to take tomorrow but hoping to start my day with a swim. It's supposed to storm here again today so I think my volleyball might be cancelled, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing at this point. |

2126 Baltimore, Maryland | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Volleyball didn't get cancelled until I already drove there. It immediately started dumping down on us. Bright side, I got to come home and study the rest of the evening. Downside, I missed another workout because of it. Woke up at 2:30 this morning and immediately got extremely stressed about money and school. Going back to sleep was not an option, so I've been studying since. Heading to the pool in about an hour. Was hoping to take my exam this morning and be done with this class but it isn't posted so I may clean instead. Adulting is not fun sometimes. |

Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open I hear you Nicole—adulting sucks sometimes. I didn’t get to sleep until 2am and am up at 5. Three hours isn’t enough sleep for me. I’m going to be a zombie today! At least the bright side is that I have the first load of laundry in the wash. |

Expert 4921 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open That happens to me about once a month where I panic about everything - money, health, my daughter, work, and sleep about 2-3 hours. That also creates a zombie apocalypse in our house. Got in 45 min on the trainer and 90 minutes of TM and strength/core work today at the gym. Heading to Northern Cali for a week on Sunday (including a bout in wine country...) so I'm trying to eat a little cleaner this week. |

1941 , Vermont | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Back from 12 days off for vacation. We went deep into the Adirondacks with the guideboat and kayaks and portaged from pond to pond camping. It was great to be off the grid but workouts consisted of backpacking gear and getting the boats from one body of water to another. Spent the last few days at camp after camping. I got in a spin class this morning and it was a slap in the face after being off for a while. Ouch. Back down at work for a few days. Hope to get a run in tomorrow but needing to study for annual training. Glad to see everyone getting some miles in! |

Regular 866 Central Coast, CA | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Sounds like a fun camping trip! Last night I rode by bike to/from my fencing class (hilly 6 miles each way) for an extra workout. This morning I went for a short run and found out my legs had not quite rested up from the evening activities so I was a bit slow. That said, it feels good to be moving! |

Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Hi All-- Don't know what is going on with me, but I've been so tired for the last few days. I've been sleeping 10-12 hours a night and still not wanting to get up in the morning. Workouts have been non-existent since Sunday. It is so bad I've even scheduled a doctor's appointment! (I never do that!). Hoping this clears up soon and I can get back to training. HIM in 7 weeks--worried I might not be ready and potentially thinking about switching to the aquabike. I don't have to make the decision right away, but it is growing in the back of my mind. |

2126 Baltimore, Maryland | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Wow this week got away from me. August workouts: 11 Swam Tuesday, I think 2600 yds if I remember correctly. It was a really rough one. Main set was 10 100s on 1:50 followed by 16 50s stroke on a minute (I did IM order 4 times). Ouchie. Wednesday, went to boot camp and she destroyed us. Swam again this morning. Got in 2400 yds. I'm dragging today b/c I haven't slept well all week. Hoping for a good night's sleep tonight! |

Maybe your body just needed an extra break. Fingers crossed! Keep us posted! |

1941 , Vermont | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Oooooo, bike porn!! End of season sales can help you score amazing deals!! I have a Felt IA but there are so many great options. One of the shops here fits you first to see what frames would work best for you and then you go from there. |

Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Aug workouts: 15 Great swim this morning with masters team. 2850yds plus a lot of camaraderie. Ok..bike porn. I need some serious help. There is exactly one tri bike for sale in my town. Yes...one. Of course, every shop can order them online and whatnot, but seriously, one bike in town! It happens to fit me (at least according to the shop guy). It is a Specialized Shiv. It is a demo model and he wants $1800 (MSRP $2200) for it, but it doesn't come with a warranty. Tiagra components, 10 speed, praxis crankset I'm a little worried about the no warranty part. I'm also having a lot of trouble believing a medium bike fits my 6’3” frame. It felt ok to me, but I'm no fit expert. I rode for two years with my seat 5” too low! I didn't get to test ride it outside because it is move-in weekend on campus and people are totally not paying any attention while driving around here. I saw two accidents and three red lights run on my 4 mile drive to the bike shop. So...questions. 1.) should i be concerned about the lack of warranty? 2.) is $400 off msrp a good deal for a demo bike? (I'm a terrible negotiator, so please don't tell me to try to negotiate it down,) |

Regular 866 Central Coast, CA | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open To check the bike fit I would take your own measurements and check the charts onSpecialized's website. May not be perfect but it's at least a second opinion that's not a shop guy trying to move a bike. Went for a great 9 mile trail run yesterday. Was expecting a solo run as most of my trail running group is out of the area for a race however a last minute runner showed up. The route I ran was new to him so it was fun showing him a new trail and his presence helped motivate me to run stronger than I may have solo. |

Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Aug Workouts:16 Great 2400m swim this morning with masters. Lots of "speed" work. It is also the beginning of the semester today, so new people were around. Patience and kindness will go a long way over the next couple of weeks. Just like at the beginning of the year, the beginning of the academic years usually see bit upswings in gym use...it lasts about two weeks, then things settle back down into the usual crowd. Bike Front: I drove the two hours to St. Louis yesterday with the full intention of buying a bike. Unfortunately, neither shop could do a fitting on a Sunday. Ugh. Oh well...driving to STL is at least an excuse to have a good meal out (which we don't get down here, because there aren't may good restaurants). I basically decided on a Scott Plasma 20 (assuming it fits). It has great reviews online, seems like a solid bike in general, and the price point is great--on end of season clearance sale. My only hesitation is that I'm over the "system weight" by a fair amount. I talked to the sales people at that shop and another shop about this, and both were in agreement that it doesn't really matter, that the bike will be okay for me. I point out the second shop because they have no vested interest in telling me what I want to hear--they don't sell that bike. I've tried looking around online and it looks like this is the case for my road bike too--over the weight limit by about 80lbs. Obviously, I'm not that into the idea of spending a couple thousand dollars on a bike that might break due to weight limits. Anyone have any thoughts on this? The sales guy at the shop (Swim, Bike, Run St. Louis, if anyone is familiar) says that if I'm concerned I can swap out the wheels for larger volume (28mm, over the 25mm stock), which will provide extra air to protect the wheel against pot hole impacts. |

2126 Baltimore, Maryland | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open August workouts: 13 I went for an 18 mile bike ride on Saturday with one of my neighbors. It was pretty slow. I couldn't tell if he wanted it to be slow or he thought I did. Whenever I would get in front I would open up a little more haha. Played some volleyball yesterday. Woke up this morning to run but wasn't feeling well so ended up cleaning my kitchen a bit instead. Have volleyball tonight, and might try to get a run in before if it's not too hot out. I have a ways to go to hit 30 by 8/31, so need to start doubling up! Gretchen, I don't know anything about bikes so unfortunately cannot help you with your questions. I wonder if Alan has been around? Maybe you can send him a direct message to get his advice. |

Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Aug workouts: 18 2900m swimming with masters this morning. We had our first new clueless student show up today. He jumped into a lane already occupied by a woman without announcing himself, then swam down the wrong side of the lane. If not for eagle eyes on one of our other teammates, the lady originally in the lane would have taken off right into his face. It could have been very bad. Sigh. Newbies. Trying to have patience!! |
