Jen and Judi, if you get the opportunity to run at Disney, I say do it. The weekend can be real fun, there is a good expo, and there is no shortage of stuff to see on the course. Granted, I am a Disnoid, but it it holds a place in my heart as my first HM. If I ever do a Full, it'll probably be there. It can be crowded and slow, but still a great experience.

Would you believe I've never been to Disney?  I figure that's the only way I'm going to make it.  I really want to do the Goofy challenge.  The medals for Disney are the coolest!!  That's a big motivator.

ETA: I didn't even realize there was a Dopey challenge!! Even better.

How many races do you want to do, 1, 2, or 3? Goofy is the FM and HM on 2 successive day. Add in the 5K and you've got the Dopey challenge. I'm not sure if Dopey gets recognized with a medal by WDW or not.

The dopey challenge is 4 races over 4 days. 5 km, 10 km, HM and a Mary. You do get a Dopey medal, as well as the goofy medal and the individual medals. From the site: Race participants in the Dopey Challenge will receive: Champion® Women's or Men's cut*Long-Sleeved Tech Shirts for the Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K, Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge & Dopey Challenge, and 5K cotton Unisex T-Shirt* - View Size Chart Special Dopey finisher medal, along with the commemorative medals for the Marathon, Half Marathon & Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge, 10K finisher medal and the 5K finisher medallion* Official Race Program Guide* iGiftBag Personalized bib (Must register by November 1, 2013 for name to appear on bib)* On-course and post-race refreshments ChronoTrack B-tag timed race Personalized results website Dates, times and prices subject to change. All races are subject to capacity limits and may close at any time. * Participants must attend Packet Pick-up at Disney's Health & Fitness Expo to receive their race packet, bib, and tech shirt. Finisher medals will be distributed to finishers during the race. None of these items will be mailed to registrants that did not participate. Looks fun.

Sounds awesome.  Serious long-term goal.

Noooooooooooooooooooooo....  but maybe?  Cool

I think Janyne got in too!  WOOT!

I heard it sold out in 3-5 minutes. Good thing you type fast!

Some speculation had the wait line growing past "sold out" that fast as opposed to everyone actually registering in that time. Be interesting to see after everything settles.

It'll be interesting to see how the course plays out once people get out and ride on it. It's referred to as "flat", but here is Chattanooga and here is Louisville mapped by the same site. Only 100 ft difference in elevation. And from doing the Louisville course, it's not flat as there are rolling hills all over the place. The type that seem to really throw off that sites elevation. There won't be serious climbs, but wouldn't expect Arizona (x3) or Florida level flatness either. Normally I don't use MapMyRide, but that's where the route was plotted. The creator (Brian Myrick) is the race director or very involved with the race.

Ann-Marie, the only way that became palatable was the fact that it is in February, and there were no pythons or hogs in the video. Is this something that you and your brothers are doing?

Ha Ha! I know, the Everglades in the summer is not a place you want to be!  Right now, 2 brothers for sure and maybe a sister-in-law and sister.

I'm guessing that your trip to WA next week and IM WA have both been shelved for a while so that you can recover. I am very sorry to hear that Mutti isn't well and about your friend's mum and that she will have to deal with this alone. Thinking and praying for her. I am really glad to hear about your niece though you have to have some sunshine in your life. I have a new nephew due any day now (kinda sitting here waiting for the phone to ring). That will make 10 nieces and nephews for me and I'm going home next week so hopefully he is born before I get there and I get to see him, otherwise it will most likely be after Christmas.

M-hmmm and why would you think that?!

I'm still coming to Perth. Ironically I have to leave the country before Sep. 18th anyway (before, because of ever changing rules regulations and bureaucratic arseholes wanting payoffs it was I COULDN'T leave the country between Sep. 11-18).

Officially, IMWA is off the table. Frankly the way I felt after IMJ I retired from triathlon! I'm pretty sick.

But because I'm pretty sick, I'm considering considering IMWA. Not actually considering it ... just considering the consideration of it. All trainer and either super-easy treadmill or soft-sand running.

But we'll see. Today I'm still in the shytts so we'll see what tomorrow and the next few weeks bring.

Seriously, don't be an idiot.

^^ This.

Seriously

X whatever we are up to now

Adrienne, I gotta thank you and Janyne for helping me think through a training conundrum I've been wrestling with. The September running challenge had me thinking about purposeful training, and in review it looks like I have not been doing so. Just kinda helter skelter. Then I look at Janyne's logs and there is the picture of consistency and purpose. I have to come up with a way to combine the two in order to find a breakthrough.

Thanks, now back to your regularly scheduled madness.

I know of some out this way! Laughing But really, the Lake Geneva area had enough to be ready for IMLou. There was more of it than I expected, but didn't find myself in situations that I hadn't seen in training. Not really expecting IMChoo to be any more difficult than Lou, might be less in terms of hills, but have to see. So no, you don't HAVE to ride things like Horribly Hilly, if you want to take the easy way out. Wink

Good Golly, when did the add the 10K? Or did I miss that?

The Mouse is never one to let money slip passed him/it.  When they saw that people were doing unofficial Dopeys and realized they could charge out the wazoo for an official one, they jumped all over it.  The earliest and cheapest registration is about $500 and tops out at about $550.  They do give out cool medals and shirts for the races.  I know a lot of people who are doing Dopey and do pretty much all the Disney races.  As I said, they have a cult like following.

Purposeful training, what's that?!  Janyne is one of the manatees whose logs i both love and hate to look at - they are both inspiring and depressing at the same time   I have to follow a written plan when training for a HIM.  I assume the workouts give me the purpose I would be lacking if I tried to go it solo.

mmmm hmmmm  np.

Probably one of the more meaningful realizations I came to somewhat recently and I wanted to share it ... in a sneaky way. People don't like being told what to do, however, creating a challeng? That's another story! Smile

Wait!  Do I need to limit who has access to my training log and not let you look?!  Surprised

Heck no, I'm a bit of a masochist

Janyne, you can close your logs, I'll keep following you on Twitter, Strava, Facebook...

I just realized I have a stalking problem. Wink

Just realized?

Evidently, I'm slow on the uptake

Thinking about recovery: I know that I overpronate and have flat-ish arches. Does anyone have thoughts on strengthening feet and calves and running in a lighter shoe (like the PureCadence) or just correcting as I have been doing (running in Trance).

Reading Yanti's article made me think about taking the time to really work on my form and biomechanics instead of going back to what I was doing.

I don't imagine a lighter shoe is going to do you any favors. At least not right now, coming off of a stress fracture.

Can you point me to Yanti's article BTW?

Here's the article (not written by Yanti, but she does get mentioned).  If I do go that route, I'd start over running from the complete beginning - like Couch to 5k.

Yeah, I'm definitely sticking to my guns on this one. I think one of the biggest things Yanti always pulls from this article is the "Take it Slowly" portion. Notably the part about running barefoot (as in truly barefoot) in the grass as part of your workout.

Running on soft surfaces, in general, is also a great place to start.

You can probably look into shoe changes at some point. But I think you are going to get a lot further with MORE very easy (and I mean easy for you, not easy in comparison to other people) running, focusing on being light on your feet.

What did you doctor say?

He said "let's not get ahead of ourselves.  Focus on healing and we can talk about it in 3 - 6 weeks."

I think my problem is that I'm already bored and it gives me something to do to read all these articles and think about strategies to avoid it in the future.

I don't know the limitations of a stress fracture but have you considered aqua jogging? You can most certainly maintain your fitness, even gain some in doing so.Then in 3-6 weeks you can start slowly depending on what your doctor says.

It seems to me that racing makes up a large portion of your total volume. That may be a place to start. Either racing less, or getting more training volume in maybe?
