Hey everyone,

I just did my first Century ride today! (104.5 miles) I did 5,745 total feet of climbing and was wondering if anyone has an accurate number for the total climbing for Louisville so I can compare....?

Thanks

Mike

Jon,

Yes, I saw that you've posted that before. Thank you for doing it again.  I also saw the post before yours that had a total ascent closer to 6700 feet using a 305, a great deal less that your total.I am looking for something official number perhaps from the RD or an IM official site.

Thanks

Mike

Had a great training day and overall really good week. 3hr ride on the trainer this morning and a 9 mile run this afternoon. Need to build off this and keep the momentum going.

How is everyone else stacking up 15 weeks out?

thanks moaburner for the offer iced the crap out of the knee and did a lot of stretching and rest seems to have done the trick.  Just taking things slow at the moment  trying to figure out what happened in the first place.  It is such a fine line that we all walk trying to push with out breaking something!

This part of the chart actually has me feeling a lot better about the bike course. I've heard so many different things from people I don't know what to believe. My longest ride so far is 73 miles this past weekend and I am doing a century this coming weekend. Feeling pretty good about training right now. Hope to keep it up for the next few months!

That's a cool chart.  I'm thinking back to Louisville and the only flat part of the course I remember is the first/last 10 miles or so along the river.  Everthing else is going up or down.

Wow 15 weeks out...holy crap.  My longest ride to date has been 3.5 hours and I'm up to about 9 mile runs.  My coach has me on a good plan but I am freaking out!  This is my 1st IM.  I'm experimenting with gels and food on the bike/runs.  Any suggestions for food items to bring at KY that will survive the heat???
Thanks!

You've got me beat.  My longest ride is 3 hours, but I've got a feeling that my butt and my bike will become one very soon.

You all have me beat. My longest has been a little over 2 hours. That is all my plan has me doing up till this point. It will pick up next week when I do 3 hours.

I suppose a lot depends on how one defines 'flats'.  Perhaps a helpful thing is the actual elevation of the ride, which I've inserted below.  (vertical axis is feet and horizontal is miles.)  There's a lot of climbing and descending, but apparently never at a grade more than 2% or so (at least for any appreciable distance -- I'm not entirely sure what the resolution is here), and most of it is 1%.

IMKY bike elevation

ETA:  Just saw that you were looking for an 'official' elevation.  This is from mapmyride.com, so not official.

I am really just looking for a way to NOT freak out I honestly have no idea how to really read that elevation chart. It looks a little scary but what it means in reality I have no idea. I just hope all the hills I'm training on will be sufficient.

Is anyone doing the Cardinal Harbor Half in July? (This may have already been discussed but I'm late to the party..) I can't decide but I feel like having the chance to ride the course before Aug 30 may help in calming my nerves. Just not sure I can make the trek. Okay, the fairly short 6 hour drive but still.

Just think rollers Amy.  Most of the hills you can gain enough momentum on the downhill to almost crest the next hill.  For the most part, you are generally going up or going down...but there are only an handful of out-of-the-seat climbs.

New to the conversation.  Joining in with 15 14.5 weeks to go so I can keep the motivational juices flowing.

Completed IM-FL in 2004, and trained for IM-KY in 2007 until a nasty bike wreck took me out of training.  Coming back in 2009 to settle the unfinished business.  Thus far this year, longest ride was a 77 mile option in a March century; then did the 70.3 in New Orleans and Oly (reduced to a du) at St. Anthony's in April.  Small sprint last weekend.  An early knee injury has limited my running, and longest swim has been 2500m, but the bike has been pretty good to me thus far.  Planning to ride an organized century in late June and another on August 1.  So ... that's my training/plan thus far.

One question:  I see in earlier posts that a change in the bike route is discussed.  Can someone elaborate?  I see nothing on the IM-KY site, so should I assume no announcement has been made?  Is the change "official"?  Do the recent posts of elevation graphs and charts on this site include the change mentioned?  Just wondering - it is what it is.

Thanks,
-Georgian

To volunteer that is . . .

I'll be helping marshal the swim start from 5-10am.  Let me know if any of you need a good kick in the pants / slap in the face to calm the nerves before you dive in.

Seriously, though, best of luck to you all!  Train safe!
