tahrens - 2009-11-15 3:36 PM Linda, check out the FSSeries. (fsseries.com). They have a open water swim series that I am probably going to do. I believe it is 3 one mile swims and one 2 miler. I am planning on White Lake Half with the hubby, Savage of course, possibly Pinehurst, I should do a marathon some where in there, and hopefully Augusta - as long as it doesn't interfere with my trip to Canada. But this is my main event for 2009. Any ladies interested? It is a Carmichael Training System camp in the mountains of Asheville NC - women only. 3 days of fully supported training rides, support vehicles, instructors, lessons, the whole nine yards. http://www.trainright.com/camps.asp?uid=4445
/>
That looks very interesting.  Are you going for sure or just thinking about it?  I might feel a little intimidated in that situation esp. if it's a bunch of ladies who primarily cycle.  On the otherhand, it might be the motivation I need to get my bike butt in shape.

Morning everyone!

Brought an extra suit in today so I can ride in tomorrow.  Couldn't figure out how to pack my suit, shirt, shoes, tie, belt, etc in a backpack without getting it all wrinkled.

Going to try to ride in a few days a week over the winter if possible.

Anything exciting going on this week?

I'll be doing some time on the trainer and some laps in the pool - not sure that qualifies as "exciting" though

I'm going on two field trips this week - Kindergarten and 1st grade.  Living on the edge - Woo Hoo!

Trying to decide if I am running or running & swimming today.  Struggling without a training plan to follow.
Start marathon training in two weeks, so I know I should enjoy this time.  Just hard since I have lived by a training plan for the past "forever".

WOW, I just had a huge eye opening experience this morning.  At physical therapy they videotaped my running at different speeds - holy crap!!   I am amazed I even made it through the season with all the problems I have.  To sum it up I have some serious core work to do b/c I don't use my glutes at all and throw my hips forward from the lower back to propel myself along, oh and everything collapses on my left side - minor issues Wink  But it made me look at photos from previous races and I can now recongnize why I look so funny in my running shots.

Has anyone ever had a frame by frame analysis of themselves running?  It is very interesting.   A picture speaks a thousand words.  I am actually anxious to do some short distance runs where I can focus only on my technique. I think lately I was so worried about distance that everything else became secondary.  No more.

Doug, I forgot to ask, who is the coach you signed up with?

Sam,  I haven't registered for the bike clinic yet but I really want to do it.  I read an article in Bicycling from a lady who attended and she said the first thing they did was a fitness and skills assessment and then broke the group in levels.  She said there were first timers all the way to seasoned triathletes who enjoy the camp and the skills learned from fellow riders.  I wouldn't be intimidated if I were you.  I think it would be a great opportunity to build bike confidence.  That is what I am looking for - time in the saddle in the mountains and access to great coaches to tell me everything I am doing wrong.

Jealous much!!   I thought all field trips in the Wake Co school system were cancelled due to budget.  At least that is the story they told us.

Nope, at the beginning of the school year they told us that we may have to cancel one trip, but that is not the case so far.  I think when we started school things were so up in the air since we started our school year two months before the budget was passed.
Last week I went to the UNC Planetarium with the 3rd grade, and there were several other schools there.

well i had a nice off season last week.  i'm back at it this week.  shorter and faster workouts for a while.  we dropped the pool down to once a week although i'm planning on spending one or two days a month with the coach in the open water.  upped the run to 4X and bike stays to 3X.

jack started flag football practice.  i can't believe he's playing football already.  so our biggest challenge this week is trying to keep him from tackling june all day long.

happy monday.

Doug, I forgot to ask, who is the coach you signed up with?

Signed up with Marty Gaal at OSB multisport coaching. I have run with him before. He and his wife are AMAZING triathletes! He won the inaugural Battle at Buckhorn Tri and had a 12:08 minute OWS and won it outright.

I thought about hiring Vicki who leads the IOS wednesday runs, but think Marty will be a better fit. Today was day one of the plan. In two weeks or so we are going to run LT tests. I am focusing on running this off season as it is my weakness and I am going to run the Tobacco Marathon 3/21/10.

Good morning all....Wife finished her 1/2 marathon yesterday and did better than expected. She finished in 2:25....I was thinking she was going to be 2:30-2:40ish  but she surprised me. I kept asking her about her pace, and thinking she may be going too fast, but she was able to maintain. I ran about 2/3 of it with her. Whenever there was a chance, I let her run and circle back around and join her again. Was very proud of her.
Been looking into Galveston a little more. We may bring the kids and the M-I-L and stay for a week in a beach house. Might treat this as a Spring Break holiday instead of just me going and partying for 4 days!

Hi all -

Not too much exciting this week except for Friday a Thanksgiving sing-a-long breakfast w/ my son at school and 2 birthday parties over the weekend.  Maybe a group ride w/ the bike ladies on Sunday.

Today marks my first day back in the saddle as far as workouts.  Although the workouts will still be maintenance and low key unless Dec. 7 when I start Lonestar training.  I finally got my coach questionnaire filled out in peace and quiet at Starbucks this morning after dropping the kids at school.  Squeezed in a little housework and now I think I'm going to pack up the bike and go for a ride.  The weather is beautiful.

Happy Monday!

I hear ya Linda, it's tough to be inbetween plans.  I was going to swim today but just can't bring myself to walk down to the pool.

Looking forward to my next plan starting

Hi All

Just got back from my Dr. Appointment and the good news is no stress fracture. Prolo was the order of the day--fibular head to lateral foot.  Sticking with BS this week (and isn't that appropriate?)

Tracy, I have had a couple of different video gait analysis including Dartfish. They are eye opening and definitely helped me with muscle imbalances. My only caution is differetn PT's interpret things in different ways.  Last year when I was a mess, three professionals had very different opinions on my issues--pelvic tilt or anatomical leg length discrepancy.  ANd sometimes what they show can't necessarily be changed.

Trevor, congratulate your wife. And I bet pacing her wasn't so bad, right?

Sam, you are freaking me out with your 12/7 Lonestar start date.  Since this is not a focus race for me, we aren't even starting the build up until sometime in January.  I think you guys should buy a lot of beer because you will be waiting for me at the finish line!

Sounds like a lot of you are planning a Fall rendevous, fun stuff.  I'm out. After IM WI, I am planning on taking a vacation, hopefully a safari.

Sam...I think I am starting with my new plan on either the 7th or 14th as well. Depending on when my new coach gets the plan ready. All that means is that you and are going to hammer it at Lonestar.( Oh wait we are opponents forgot)

And yes, pacing her was fun Suzy. I got to feel like a coach for a bit.

Got a mysterious package from some Davis character in Texas...Laughing

Thanks, John.  The kids are going to love you.  And with rain settling in for the week the timing couldn't be better.

And what do you mean Jack just started?  I thought Texas handed out football gear to all newborns.

Can we stop talking about triathlons, football and beer for one second?  I need a recipe or two for Thanksgiving, preferably a side dish.....who can help me?  My preference is a 5 star rating, but I suppose I can also go with rave reviews from John, Reuben, Trevor, Tony, Doug or Andy. And no, it cannot contain beer and yes, it should be a vegetable.

My wife made some sweet potatoes last night that should have come w/ a warning label and a side of insulin.  It seemed pretty easy and they were good, even if they could have served as dessert.  I like being her guinea pig for TG recipes.

I see you upped your run to 4x a week.  Maybe you will be fast enough at Lonestar so I don't have to run backwards to keep it fair!
