Jen, I'm glad that the phone interview went so well.  We'll keep on sending the job zen your way!

Randee - How long it takes to adjust depends on how far you are racing.  The longer the race, the more time I'd allow for adjustment.

Ben - I can only list races that you put in your training log.  No races in training log = no races on Racing Manatees list!  Great swim and ride this weekend!

Yanti - Love your  leprechaun photo!  I do hope that you are feeling better more yourself.  And if you want to be added to the DL, I can.  I just thought that you didn't want to be on there?  Or maybe I'm just confused because some others have requested to not be listed.  But seriously, who wouldn't want good thoughts and healing zen and tail flaps and…  OK, you're on it.

Felicia - Sorry about the half marathon on the 22nd.  At least Horsethief Canyon is still a go!  Pretty shoes too!  And you're not old, you're just not 29.

Judi - Good work out there!  If I have GI issues after a run, I know that I need to drink a lot more water.  A lot more.   I normally drink 2+ liters of water a day plus coffee, etc. so I go into my runs well hydradate but I think that sometimes I subconsiously want to avoid sloshy stomach so don't drink enough during the run.  Or soemthing like that.

Jo - Sorry about your wrist!  I once broke my finger while falling in the parking lot *after* the ride.  :-/

Erin - Thanks for the elliptilinks!

Jonathan TN - Welcome back!

Tom - I'm glad that you enjoyed your ride this weekend!

I've been doing BikeMS New Bern since 2008 after doing the Myrtle Beach ride for three years, twice two the beach and once at the beach and then that ride moved to Greenville so I was out.  At any rate, that's nine BikeMS rides done.

CONGRATULATIONS NYNY!!!

I loved the pics. Do you seriously ride for a beer team? How did I not know this/was not common knowledge among Manatees? Or am I just DFL as usual?

I have no opinion on the DL or not, I just hope everyone heals and strengthens up well!

Of course I ride for a beer team!  We have beer bottles coming out of our jersey pockets even!

That's great!! I was the 2013 BikeMS spokesperson for CT this year. It was fun but I wish they had me doing more public service stuff. Oh well. It's a great cause.

Does this work?

Great weekend info from everyone!

Can we get logistic info for Jo's race start this weekend?

I had a CRAZY weekend. I feel like it's worthy of a report! Short version... I volunteered for packet pickup for one of Coach Andie's races this weekend, then also worked the transition area (slurp). There was a "kid" (19ish) that I spoke with at packet pickup that was going to do this race on a FIXIE! He did it too. I saw him in T2 looking ready to run. In transition I saw some speeeeedy transitioners, shoeshoebeltgone, and some slow ones, shoes off, take a drink, apply deoderant (yes deoderant), apply sunscreen, shoes on, eat a gel, take another drink, put on the hat... go. And we had several people try to bike or run out the wrong way. I ALWAYS walk the bike out run out when I get to a race.

Looking forward to my mud run this weekend. I've decided that the old Solomans (with over 375 miles on them) will be sacrificed for the race. I'm wondering what shorts to wear. My niece is making shirts for us to wear so I won't have to plan that. Those of you who've done these, what kind of shorts did you wear?

Have a great week everyone.

TJ

I wore an old tri suit for the only mud run I did.  It's one I don't care much to race in (bathing suit style legs and my big thighs look less than pretty hanging out like that on the run).  Figured I would throw it out post race but it came clean in the washer (only thing in that load was tri suit and the socks I had on)

Thanks Judi. Old tri shorts (yes, Yanti shorts, but no panties Wink) were just what I was considering. They are mid thigh so will (sorta) protect from scratchy stuff in the mud but are old and getting too saggy for tri.

I know. I don't put the events in there until I'm ready for people to know.

The ride was just a training ride, though it's based on an actual event. Horribly Hilly Hundreds, and it lives up to the name. The big one kind of drowns out the smaller ones in the elevation profile, but those things get steep!

I always wear the unpadded tri short bike short whatever they're called looking things under running shorts. I guess I could ditch the running shorts, but my unpadded whatever's are a little too thin . Even though I get really, really muddy everything gets nice and clean in the wash - after hosing them off outside.

W00t, w00t, just registered for The Boston Marathon!

Also, major changes to my fall racing plan, after all of that lol. Looks like I very possibly won't be racing a HM at all. Instead, I will be doing 6(ish) XC races. It will be really strange to do a block of VERY difficult racing where times don't really mean shyte

It doesn't really matter. Just know it's going to get super bogged down with dirt.

This was how my entire body looked ...

And be careful.

BTW, did you watch the Mary Decker episode? Did you agree with my comments? Smile

I've been planning to do XC all along but was going to cap the season with a HM. I just don't think that's going to work well with the schedule at all. And honestly I need to stop trying to multi-task.

XC is going to be REALLY hard but really, really good for me. It's also way outside my comfort zone.

As I said, it will be really interesting because in XC it's not really metric based. So it will be all "good race" or "bad race" and that's about it haha

That sounds very cool and also a little grueling.  Can you give us some insight into the specific gains your coach thinks the XC season will give you?

Congrats on Boston :)

Strength, in a literal sense and mental toughness, being at the top of the list. But overall, very high competition racing. Nearly all the meets we enter are collegiate. But a really cool team aspect too, that you don't really get in road racing.

And thank you Smile I still have to get verified for Boston but considering my qual race WAS Boston, I'm thinking it will be wrinkle free.

Haha. Yeah, I'm counting on being crazy stoopid muddy, but I'll be with my niece and SIL so I'll be loving every step. Over the weekend my SIL mentioned that "they" would let her skip obstacles if needed. I told her "they" will but I won't. Ha. I guess we'll be dragging each other through all of it. Good thing we'll have those youngun's to help.

I didn't get to watch the episode yet. It got bumped to the 3am recording because of a cooking show and a car show Surprised

ETA: OH! and congrats on Boston! Woot!
