Sorry about the slacking....I'm swimming again but a bit grumpy as I haven't run in 4 weeks and no bike in just over 2. I love training and don't like being on the sideline waiting to get healthy but I need to be patient. I'm having fun using m 310XT in swim mode doing different swim workouts in open water than in the past when I would just swim for xx time. Now I'm doing intervals counting stroke cycles...I love training by power and pace, so I think adding this into my open water swims suits me. I did see fish today swimming. I will coordinate the hats but need some help with design. Anyone good at graphic design or have a kid/friend that would like to help with this? I think if we start taking orders early August we should be good. Headsweat hats take awhile to get made up and the lead time is much greater than t-shirts. Shirts I think we should contact the BTer who has done them last two years as he said he'd do them this year but we haven't heard from him lately to make sure he is on board. Ideally we can let folks order and pay for both at the same time so less stuff to deal with. |

Expert 1139 Austin | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I've been joining you on the sidelines for the past three days Kathy. I'm pretty convinced the wings that I had for lunch on Sunday had something wrong with them as I've had some pretty bad nausea for the past two days. Couple that with a dry heave or two Sunday night and I'm not exactly 100%. It's feeling much better today but I'm still not confident enough to go put in a workout in this heat or in the pool. Hopefully I'll wake up tomorrow morning feeling almost 100% so I can get back out there. Either way it's frustrating to say the least, so I can't even imagine what you're having to tough out. |

In some downtime today at work, I got to surfing the net looking for dri fit shirts. Who would think it would be so hard to find a hot pink tech shirt. I did find one place that offered "deep blush", but only in women's shirts. I also found a "Tiger Woods dri fit polo" but that was $63. I found a couple of places that have a lime green color (kelly green at one and apple green at another), but I don't know how people feel about that color. If we don't want the drifit option, one of the places did have hot pink t-shirts, but I know having the dri fit option was desirable. One thing to consider I guess is how the logo we want to use would look on hot pink or another color (besides the ones done the past two years). Guess I need to look at my shirt from last year so I can remember what it looked like. I'll keep looking if I have some extra time, but that's all I got for now. Hope everyone has a good weekend. |

Extreme Veteran 483 St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Afternoon all, I am the proud owner of a new (to me) Garmin 310xt and am pondering getting a power meter to link to it. Since I am completely clueless on the powermeter subject, I wondered if there were any suggestions as to a suitable unit to obtain - not looking to sell another child to finance the purchase. Only thing I know is that it should be an Ant+ capable model. Are all power meters hub based or do other options exist? tia, Glen |

Expert 1139 Austin | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I think you can get a powermeter that's either hub based or crank based. Kathy should be able to chime in with a wealth of knowledge with regards to training with power. |

Regular 65 Ventura | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread i just received this from Ironman- thought you would be interested Hello Douglas- Thanks for your email regarding Ford Ironman Florida. We recognize your concern and interest as it relates to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The Ironman Team continues to closely monitor the oil spill developments and potential impact to the Panama City Beach area. We are currently working with government agencies and local partners to identify possible swim venue options. Our team remains committed to ensuring the safety of all athletes and providing an Ironman experience that includes swim, bike and run. "Contingency planning is part of our day-to-day operations," said Steve Meckfessel, WTC's Chief Operations Officer. "While we can't forecast swim and beach conditions in November, we are evaluating several course and venue options which will enable athletes to complete the entire event." Communication relating to contingency plans for Ford Ironman Florida will be released as soon as they are finalized. Ironman will reach out to all registered athletes via email, on www.ironman.com and through official press materials. Richard Sanders, Vice President of Sports Marketing for the Panama City Beach Convention and Visitor's Bureau comments. "We understand the concerns our visiting athletes have and consider their health and safety to be a top priority. We are working with Ironman and local officials to provide alternative plans for the swim portion of the race if the Gulf Coast oil spill does affect the waters currently utilized. If the swim location has to be moved, it will in not impact the caliber or integrity of this year's Ford Ironman Florida. We look forward to welcoming this world-class talent and the event back to Panama City Beach." For additional questions, please feel free to contact me. Are all power meters hub based or do other options exist? tia, Glen There are basically three real players in the power meter market right now: SRM, Quarq and Powertap. SRM and Quarq are crank based and Powertap is hub based. I purchased a Quarq system earlier this year. There are pros and cons to each. I can discuss further if you'd like. Let me know what questions you have. |

Thanks for posting the email as it is more information than they have previously shared. It is nice to see they want to put on the race and that they are looking for race locations that will allow us to do all 140.6 instead of 138.2. |

Douglas's posted response from WTC has calmed my nerves a bit here. I'm trying to not let the unknown consume my thoughts here. I thought I would try to be social here in hopes to re-energize myself. My training is starting to get tedious and I've honestly been shorting myself, especially on the bike (I know, I know) Im hoping the public confession might be cathartic as well as motivating. Anyone using the TriFuel Beginner IM training program? Im curious as to people thoughts or opinions of this program. I've signed up for a number or tri's, runs, and swims this summer to keep me motivated and entertained but I'm finding them difficult to work into the program. Anyway, I've enjoyed reading all the posts and I will try to keep a presence here and contribute. Happy Training Justin Baltimore, MD |
