Master 2638 | Subject: RE: Ford Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread I'll bite on the socializing: Last long run today. GI issues and need to be home in time to take my oldest to the bus stop combined to turn my 15 miler into 13 miles, but it felt good. DH just replaced my bike after discovering a giant crack in the frame on Tuesday. I am lucky to have such a nice DH! Ironman kits are nearly ready and the supporter shirts should be here anytime. Whew! Can't wait to get to Madison (and Monroe) and see Doug's family! Edited to add that my heart skipped a beat when I saw the truck photo. Deep breaths! This will be my first full 2.4 open swim, although I believe I'll be fine I'm not trying to kill myself out there. Just wondering if people wait up and everyone starts together or? I don't know my way around Madison so I just dont wanna be biking to nowhereville alone |

I don't know my way around Madison so I just dont wanna be biking to nowhereville alone Hi Mitch, I did the MOWS + bike course last year and it didn't seem like there was any sort of coordinated effort to start together, everyone just kind of went out on their own when they were ready. Of course I forgot to bring my BIKE SHORTS (from Kansas!) so I had to stop at that shop right there to purchase some and it delayed my start time by quite a bit. But maybe you could ask around right after the swim if you could tag up with a group riding about your speed? Have fun - it's a great day! |

Expert 767 Littleton, Colorado | Subject: RE: Ford Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Well, I thought I was doing OK, but then I saw that pic and started to hyperventilate.... I've actually been doing pretty well until this last week. After a 20 mile run on Saturday and 100 mile hilly ride on Sunday (just a week after a HIM), I'm finally pooped. Just need to make it through Sunday! I re-confirmed all of my travel/lodging arrangements this week, replaced running shoes last week, and am making lists of all the things I will need to check/replace/etc. before I head out. Three weeks and I will be in Madison! |

I don't know my way around Madison so I just dont wanna be biking to nowhereville alone It seems a lot of people are planning on the swim + bike. John Nolen Dr. is closed tomorrow until Monday morning, so getting to the terrace will be a little tricky. They will have detour signs. I am uncertain if the bike path is open. I think so, but not positive. The road is closed from Olin Ave to North Shore Dr. I am planning on biking the full course - but I am not very fast. Average around 15-16? I am not sure where I will park - probably try to park at the Terrace. If people wanted to ride together - or at least start together, we could meet at the bottom of the helix just off the bike path on the further side from the boat landing? My cell # is 438-3432 - probably will leave it in the car for the swim though. I have a light blue trek road bike with blue taped aerobars and a blueish helmet. |

I would say park at Monona Terrace, as there should be Plenty of spots for parking. The "stick" is marked with double Green arrows, so you should not have problems finding your way, and the course is maked with arrows also. As far as what the paper reported, the bike path should not be closed on John Nolen, however, that was not a guarantee. Enjoy the swim and the course. There was only one road that was chip sealed last weekend County Route J, which you are on for a very short distance, other than that the roads were typical country roads. Just a reminder if you need bike help on the course call UpHill Grind 1827 Bourbon Road I posted before, but they will come rescue you on the course if you need anything.

This has probably been asked and answered. I saw the posting about JN Drive closed tomorrow. I'm coming in from Comfort Inn in Middeton. Anyone have a good route to the Terrace for the swim? I plan to leave the truck there, swim one loop, take the bike, ride the course with one loop and back in. I've done the course 3 times now so this is just a last look. Run will depend on time. But I think I will... I have a long bike on Sunday then taper begins. How did it get here so fast. It all seemed like a great idea when I signed up a year ago Thanks Iceman. 309-275-7120 Edited by IceManScott 2011-08-19 9:30 AM |

After you get your wetsuit taken off by the wetsuit strippers you carry it with you to T1. You put it in your T1 transition bag after getting bike stuff on. They will also have a drop bag before the race for morning clothes and a place for you to drop it off. |

It all seemed like a great idea when I signed up a year ago Thanks Iceman. 309-275-7120 See below for update on the road closures. It does look like the bike path will be closed too, for those planning to ride from Monona Terrace. http://www.cityofmadison.com/transportation/roadworks/ Beginning August 19th, the Wisconsin and Southern Railroad will be replacing the rail crossing of John NolenDrive near Olin Avenue. This will require the complete closure of John Nolen Drive between Olin Avenue and North Shore Drive, beginning at 9 AM Friday, August 19th, and lasting until 6 AM Monday, August 22nd. This will also require closure of the Capital City Bike Trail in both directions at Olin Avenue. Signed detour routes will be provided as follows: Motorized Traffic For southbound John Nolen Drive traffic, all traffic will be required to turn right onto North Shore Drive and directed to turn left onto W. Washington Avenue and turn left onto Park Street. Once on Park Street, traffic will be able to continue south to the Beltline either via Park Street, Fish Hatchery, or Olin Avenue. For northbound John Nolen Drive traffic, all traffic will be required to turn left onto Olin Avenue, and then will be directed to turn right onto Park Street, right onto W. Washington Avenue, right onto Proudfit/North Shore Drive, and left onto John Nolen Drive. Bicycle Traffic Southbound bicycle traffic will be routed onto the Wingra Creek Path where it intersects Olin-Turville Court. From there, bicyclists will be directed onto the Olin Avenue Side Path and then back onto the Capital City Trail near Olin Avenue. Northbound bicycle traffic will directed onto the Olin Avenue side path at Olin Avenue. From there, bicyclists will be directed onto the Wingra Creek Path and then back onto the Capital City Path at Olin-Turville Court. Severe traffic congestion can be expected on John Nolen Drive, Park Street, North Shore Drive and W. Washington Avenue exiting downtown during the PM peak travel periods on Friday, August 19th. Increased congestion can also be expected on all routes exiting downtown during this timeframe, as motorists look for alternative routes to exit downtown. Motorists are encouraged to shift work times or consider alternative modes of transportation such as Madison Metro, bicycling, walking, or carpooling to avoid delays or help reduce congestion during the PM peak travel periods. You CAN go through the Alliant Energy Center - the gates are closed but there is space alongside to get through - just go real slow. So you turn right into that drive. Robert works at the Dane County Public Works building and I ride from his office back there all of the time. You go through the olin ave gate and turn right on the road - and follow along the backside of the parking lot to the rusk ave gates. Turn left on Rusk to get to Rimrock. This is the actual IM route. OR just go back to JN/path to get to Rimrock - |
