chadtower - 2008-05-27 10:12 AM "I tripped over my pet" is standard code for "I was so smashed I don't remember how it happened". Even the (former) QB for the Broncoes couldn't get away with that one.

i would agree... but she doesn't drink... now if it was ME, we would all know what happened.. but i only have a goldfish.. it would take a lot of work to trip over a goldfish.. but i'm sure i could manage it if I tried..

A Shark tripping over a goldfish would be a true Pixar moment. There's something else she was on, then, as people don't just trip over cats badly enough to break a bone. Maybe she fell off the side of the bed? I once saw a woman try to switch positions, slip off the corner of the mattress, and whack herself on the corner of my dorm fridge.

I had the bottom of my bed slip out from under me one time.

I have an ikea bed and mattress which just has a set of wooden slats across the bottom. One side of the slats shifted and came off the ledge they rest on and we went falling the 18" to the floor.

Dude, you're supposed to screw those slats to the side rails so that doesn't happen.

Good thing it didn't happen at a worse time....coulda killed the moment.

Just bruised my hip and her knee.  And I learned how Famke Janssen was able to kill those guys in GoldenEye.

This is Cube we're talking about... "I don't care how much you paid me... if you can't get a decent bed, I'm outta here..."

Dude that's cold. Nitrogen cold. Putting your off hand in a bucket of ice for a quality Stranger cold.

Nyeh, if the moment is good enough, it'd just add fuel. Curtains are better off on the floor anyway.

Crack Ho made me cover her medical bills too...since when do they give morphine for a bruised knee?

Man you really don't know the game. You don't pay her bills, you file a witness statement and split the morphine. Duh.

It happens. When we were in high school my wife and I broke her parents' couch. Splintered the frame. I was trying to figure out what to do about it when they pulled up in the driveway. I panicked and set the couch frame back together with a couple of pieces of paper giving it just enough friction that it would hold for a few minutes. Then we ran out onto the back deck and sat. 3 minutes later someone yells from inside "dammit [her brother's name], you broke the couch!"

Classic!!!

That's a cool bed. Good use of space. My sons' rooms are in the finished attic - the ceiling is too slanty for that.

This is not true at all.  My dog likes to sleep at the top of our stairs.  I guess she feels she can protect everyone from there and still see the front door for intruders.  Twice I have woken in the middle of the night and tried to step over the top of her, she got startled and stood up, I tumbled down the stairs once and slid down once on my @$$.  From that point on I have nudged her with my foot to let her know I was there and she gets up and moves.

There's always an exception, but I used to work with people just out of the drunk tank, and "I tripped over the dog" was a very common statement when someone didn't want to say what actually happened. Usually we didn't care - but sometimes it was "she tripped over the dog" and somehow got a black eye and handprints on her neck. We cared then.

My buddy had a bed like that in his dorm... saved him a TON of space.

Now that you mention it, I remember a few guys in college taking the bottom bunk out and putting their desk in there if they didn't have a roommate that semester.

Some of my fraternity brothers and I would build those for a 6-pack back in the day.  Granted, they were no where near that nice, but cheap and super functional.  Unless you were an idiot, like one friend, that miss measured and wound up sleeping about a foot from the ceiling.  Knocked is @$$ out twice waking up to quickly.  HA!   Not the brightest bulb in the box.

I had a loft in college, while not a foot off the ceiling I do remember it as being tough to get into on some nights. Trying to make that climb when you could barely walk straight was tough.

Hence the reason we had a great sofa under one of our lofts.  To "crash" when we couldn't make it "upstairs".

Oh, and when my friend did it, he was stone cold sober both times.  Second time, he had a bump and bruise that lasted a week!  Friggen hilarious.  Still hasn't lived it down and that was 15 years ago.

Everyone had really sweet lofts in my dorm.  Mine was an "L" shape with couches underneath it.  That way, the corner section served as a big nightstand with clocks, lamps, beer, condoms, etc on it...

Most folks had the double suspended bed lofts where the bed was cantilevered and suspended by a set of 2x4s bolted to the inner frame rail.  Of course, the real engineers used chains and a pivot system so they could hoist their beds up during the day to give themselves more headroom.
