Ugh. Checked out my bike this morning in transition and found a slash in my front tire. It will be a miracle if it makes it through the race. At least it is the front so not having all my weight on it gives it a fighting chance. Good temps for a race so far but we will see how much the sun itself plays a part

5 miles in the books...tough run today. I was probably due for a bad outing after so many solid runs. Tomorrow may be a day off for the legs. Heading out to give the voice a workout today. Broadcasting playoff softball which could end up being 2 games. I may have no voice left tonight if that happens.

Kim - good luck with the race.

Fred - hang in there...I know it is tough when you are not 100%

Did 5 miles this morning.  I did an easy mile and then pushed the intensity for mile 2 and 3....the hamstring was tight and I felt it a bit, but I can tell it is getting better.  Took it easy the last two miles and then stretched and iced.  I am still being careful with the hammy....I don't want this to last longer then it has too.

Hope everyone's training rocks this weekend!

bryancd - 2012-04-27 7:13 PM Always good to remember...it's just a hobby. Triathlon should rank pretty low on the what really is important scale.

I need to re-read this from time to time.  I dwell too much on missed workouts and how that will affect me later in races.  Truth is, it is a hobby and life will interfere at times.  I don't make a living doing this, but I still take it seriously.

I don't know why but this also reminds me (kind of) of something that happened in Myrtle Beach a couple of years ago.  My buddy JR hit a terrible golf shot and yelled at the top of his lungs, %&$dammit JR!  The marshall, 20 feet away said, "Son, you're not good enough to be that mad on the golf course."  Perspective.

love it.  I think we all need a reminder of that.  Ha,iI can just imagine your buddy's face thinking that one over

Sitting in Disneyland eating lunch. I got out at 6 am this morning for a 10k run. Figured it (and all the walking) will at least alleviate some calorie damage. Hope everyone is having a good weekend

Hope it holds out for you, be safe.

Tire held thankfully.  Conversation with Tina after "Did you crash?".  sigh.  I chased Elaines' butt all over that course.  We started together, they just lumped all the under 50 females together.  I out ran her the first run but we were darn close, then we leap frogged a few times on the first loop on the bike and on the second loop once she got past me again she took off.  I told her not to let me catch her.  Didn't think she'd take me so seriously.  lol  Saw her again on the run and let her know I was coming for her but I had nothing.  I went out too hard for sure on the first run.  I don't have 5k legs at the moment.  So May will be about intensity I think.  I already know I am going short for May so I'm going to work on my 5k fitness.  It was awesome racing with Elaine though, added some extra sponk to the race.  It is a little harder to do that in long course racing.  Anyways 2:11:26 total time, run1 25:58, bike 1:11:44, run2 31:32 (I know I know) and t1 1:11, t2 1:04.  Probably be a while before I do a race report cause I have to finish packing the house tonight and head on up to Payson tomorrow with pets in tow.

Don't stress about the calories too much.  As you said, exercise to counteract some of it, and just stay away from overheating to the point you hurt or never feel hungry and you'll be fine no matter how many calories are in that food.  Enjoy the time away from it all, you earned it.  just don't go too crazy

Great job!  I was just getting ready to ask you how it went when I saw your post about perspective.  Glad to tire didn't cause you any issues.

Thanks.  Wait until you see the splits Elaine put down for the run 1 and run 2.  Perfect example of how to run a DU and still giving it your all.

Kim - awesome  job today! I love the "Did you crash?" one of my best training buddies asks me sh*t like that all the time as he crushes me on the bike and then waits for me at the next stop sign. I find it to be incredibly motivational, don't you?

I also raced today and had to talk said buddy into racing as well - we are doing a tough HIM next Sunday and I just wanted to blow the dust off - he was not really excite about that. Turns out I shouldn't have talked him into it as he knocked me off the Master's podium and I wound up with 1st in AG (which is sketchy due to the whole masters thing - he and I were 1&2 in our AG). In the end I got a gold medal and he got a bronze, which is really all that matters, right???  Laughing

Fred D - 2012-04-28 4:27 PM I rode in very cold (for April) weather and had fun. I did about 50' total at 95% of FTP broken up into 4 sections based on terrain. My bike is the strongest it's ever been before. This is largely due to lack of training in the other disciplines, but I will take the little victories that I can

In the long haul Fred this is why your injury is actually going to pay off in spades. Your achilles injury is NOT forever - give the swim layoff enough time to work. You will come back stronger than ever.

I completely agree - enjoy the time there, but drink, drink, drink - I find it really easy to get dehydrated at places like DL. Have fun and don't worry about it!

Ha, classic example of careful what you wish for.  Good job on the AG win though, that's awesome

Learned a lot from my brick today.  Plan was to ride 6-7 miles strictly as warm up, then ride 56ish at 215 watts, then follow up with a 4 mile run.

Went out too hard.  I averaged about 221 for the first 34 miles, and power just dropped off pretty bad.  I think it dipped all the way down to about 207...which means the last 22 miles were at about 190.  By the end of the ride, I was struggling to hold 170ish.

Run started out okay considering...but the last 2 miles was just torture.

Nutrition was okay...just went out too hard on the bike.  Last week I did about 50ish miles at 225 watts, so even 220ish should have been doable...but just not today I guess.  I think I would have done a little better if I stuck to 215 as planned, but I think 205-210 consistantly would have been the best case for me to run well afterwards.

Just goes to show that a power meter is only as good as the goal you set in relation to how you actually feel that day.  The good news is that by RPE, I knew 220 was too hard even early on in the ride.  I kept thinking I would eventually "wake up", but it never happened.  So my mental power meter is working just fine.  ;

Hey all. Got a 9.5k run in today. 2hr ride planned for tomorrow (depending on how it looks outside I might take the steed out for his inaugural ride outside of 2012. Lol. Then he will be back on the trainer for the rest of the week. I have call Mon and Sat this week. Really need to discipline down and make sure I get my pre-call and post call workouts done. Only 12 weeks left until Calgary 70.3....been debating the race given my training...ultimately, I will sign up once my pediatrics schedule is mailed out and all my humming and hawing is for naught given that I will sign up, but just not feeling super confident at the moment in my training. It's funny, my current training volume was pretty much my peak training 2-3 years ago. Haha.
