I hope everyone had a great day. ![]() Whew....Thanksgiving dinner is behind me...my turkey was a major hit...honestly, the best we have ever eaten. I used William Sonoma dry brine for 18 hours and then coated it in a Turkey Paste before roasting. YUM! My FIL spilled a glass of wine all over my MIL, the table and the Oriental rug, but even that was taken in stride...good day overall. We are heading up to our Lake house for the weekend for a little twosome R&R. Always tempted to run my favorite trail this time of year, but taking the CT and sticking to the plan! Hope everyone enjoys the long weekend. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Happy Thanksgiving everyone! It has been a crazy few days and there's lots I'd like to comment on, but only have a few moments. While we were passing through town and stopped in to see my parents my Mom started having difficulty breathing and we took her to the hospital. She had sepsis again (third time in about 4 months) and her kidneys had shut down. They got her on IV antibiotics and got the infection under control and her kidneys started working again so they released her this morning. I'm in Spokane hanging out with Mom, Dad, and Hubby and I did get in a 6 mile run today. We had take out Denny's for dinner LOL. Missed the traditional dinner a little, but mostly I'm just happy that my Mom was released from the hospital today and we were able to spend the day with her. I also got to text with my daughter in boot camp and got a picture of her enjoying her Thanksgiving feast! She's the girl on the left. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I hope everyone had a great day and enjoyed their families and friends! |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Gorgeous bike, Steve! I think I have the same saddle...specialized tri-tip? It felt good in the showroom, we'll see how it goes ![]() My turkey came out really moist and and flavorful. It was a perfect meal. Highly recommend roasting butternut squash with maple syrup/ brown sugar and a little cinnamon/nutmeg. I cannot wait for lunch today! ![]() After a 4am run to Sears for some power tools and a table saw...I am going to try to go back to sleep! Take care, everyone... |

![]() Roni...love the pic. God bless our troops, near and far. Everyone recovered from yesterday? The food didn't do me in as much as the wine did. My husband cooks better than I do so he did all the cooking...I just sipped the wine along side him (all day). I did not have a single drink while training for IM, so I woke up this am with a "little" headache ![]() One cool thing yesterday...watched the Macy's day parade with my kids (tradition). Would you believe we were watching when my high school band "Choctawhatchee Style Marchers" came on. Yep, I was a band geek....1st chair, so I was a good band geek (is there such a thing?) Anyway, really cool to watch with the kids (at this age they thought it was awesome). Back to "training" tomorrow...the head is NOT training today. Fast looking bike Steve. And love the plate! |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So does anyone ever hit the mileage exactly in a running race? My pace per my garmin yesterday was 7:05 but had me running 3.17 miles. Clock pace for 3.1 miles was 7:13. Lost 15 spots between 7:05 - 7:13 I always seem to be well over the mileage if I look at my garmin. |
![]() ![]() |
Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Tony-I never hit the distance spot on....it is always long. If it is a certified course, then it is the GPS or the way you run the course (zig zag between people/go to the other side of the road). It has faked me out more than once when doing a marathon. I think I am on pace only to find out later, I missed the goal, sometimes by :10 per mile. Linda--what instrument? I give you credit for sticking with it. I played the clarinet through 8th grade and dumped it to avoid being labelled a bigger dork that I already was....being 4'10" everyone picked on me for size in hs, didn't need to be nailed for the band too. We hit our place in Minocqua. No snow, but cold....30F now. Crazy. I have become a cold weather wimp. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi gang/ Just quick hello from up north. I'm kinda f glad this month is coming to a close between work, being sick and injuries it has been a tough month. Had what felt like the flu for two weeks. Spent two weekends just sleeping. Got over that and got hit with a heavy cold and to top it all off I twisted my back and had to lay off training completely. I hope to get back at it this Sunday. Haven't had time to catch up on all the news everyone has posted but will sometime this weekend. I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving weekend. Go ahead overeat, watch too much tv football of course and then work it all off next week. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() that's an interesting question. thinking about it spatially AND assuming all things accurate, unless you run the course exactly as it was measured, (gps, GIS, dgps, however...) you will always be over. for example, if i create a shapefile for a local 5k, i'd create all the polylines along the center of the route. now if this route is one lane of a road and you are racing, every deflection off that centerline is going to add distance. in your case, again assuming the course was measured accurately, you added a little over 100 feet per mile, i would imagine that's fairly easy to do, especially in the first 1/2 mile weaving in and out of people. further, if you did hit 3.1 exactly i'd argue the course is short simply because chances of you running along the exact measured distance are pretty low. edit... this might be interesting. email me the files from the garmin. i'll create a shp of the course and we'll compare the two. Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Saweet! I got my new Kurt Kinetic trainer today. It's all set up, but didn't have time to use it yet, but our team got a sweet deal on the trainers, so I got a pretty cool deal. The trainer came with the Spinvervals 27.0 DVD. So that's kewl and all, but I'm not sure what to do with the data that I'll get from my Garmin. So the workout totals 1 hour. But the main test is a 20 minute Threshold test. So I'm aware that I'll be looking at my highest heart rate and my average heart rate over the 20 minute period. So how then do I formulate my heart rate training zones. I've never set up my zones before as I've always relied on the basics provided by my Garmin or the BT suggested rates. Will it be easier to wait until after I do the test (this weekend) and then go with what I find, or is there some reading up that I can do on it now? |

Hey Jeremy Have you ever checked out Training Peaks? They have a free basic membership that allows you to set up HR zones based on your LT (which is basically your average HR over the 20 minute test). Check it out! Have fun. |

It certainly doesn't replicate being outside any more than the trainer does. I've done it and do't feel like I got anything extra from it that I couldn't get on my own and it cost me $150. I think a really good way of doing it is on a CT where you not only can establish LT HR, but LT Watts. Now I only train to Watts. In the absence of a CT, doing it on your training is an ok option IMO. |

But I have to wait until they start to offer it again in the end of spring semester. I've got most of the Spinervals DVD, but I'd love to have any of the 'real life' videos. If any one wants a copy of the Spinervals, let me know and I'll get you one. Well my in-laws are coming to my home today. It's all good.
