![]() I love bringing in the tree...nothing like the smell. Our tree will come home in a few weeks ![]() Been Christmas decorating ALL day...still lots to go. If my kids keep up their antics Santa won't need to stop at our house. Staying in watching football, which they love, but they have a ton of energy to burn off. Between decorating and kids I think I'm going to lose it. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Busy weekend.......Out all day yesterday running around with kids. Today we are putting up our tree as wel. Watch some NFL. And then I've got some sawweeeettt tickets to the Grey cup. 50 yds line. 12 rows up. Temp is around 50 degrees right now. Should be a fun game. One of the teams playing has a crazy fan base that has taken over Calgary this weekend. Similar to the cheeseheads- they wear watermelon heads. Supposedly there were 10,000 watermelons shipped into Calgary for this wekend. Johno- Me thinks some fat lady on a moped has a crush on ya. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 9 Week Prep Phase is underway starting today! 230 Days until Racine! Did the Spinervals 27.0 Threshold test today. Haven't calculated the data yet. Basics are on my logs. I'd appreciate any input! I'll be back with the info later. Yesterday went great. In Laws brought a baked ham rather than steaks... less work for me! Very Delish! |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Chris--I really love that bike. So aggresive looking, especially with those wheels! Jeremy--nice job on the TT. I sent you an email while in the car today. Hopefully you got my two cents on an approach to use for your zones. Trevor--would love to see the watermelon heads. I've toyed with the idea of wearing a cheesehead, but those things are HEAVY! The Thanksgiving holiday is officially over for the Shain family. We arrived home from our snowy lake house a little while ago. Thankfully no snow here, just cold temps. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey gang - back from the cruise... Dang I ate a lot of food.... actually got in some workouts (about 8 hours worth) too... Did spin class three mornings, did my core workout several times, and did some yoga (found out that I am not very flexible) Did two OWS swims - one in Grand Cayman and one in Cozumel - way different than OWS in the local lakes... In Gr Cay there were 4-5 foot tarpon hanging out in the area I was swimming - seeing one of those flash out of the side of your googles can give you the heebee-jeebees... Coz had some wicked swells coming at an angle to the beach - it was like swimming in an endless pool coming back against them - kinda like hills in the ocean - we were in Coz on Friday and IM COZ was on Sunday, the main highway around the island was packed with triathletes out cycling... The Mexican cab driver thought they were all nuts, but they loved the money that it was bringing in... Thanks to keeping it a mere 10 pages in the last week... here is my attempt to catch up... Barry - keep the faith, I too am sidelined from running. I bet I have to start all over again when I get the OK to go run again.. Jeremy - If you need some Spinervals, let me know... John - I was not laughing at your Christmas lights.... well not much anyway Steve - That type of weather sounds like an excuse to get all muddy and have some fun... Doug - Started reading the book on the cruise - about half way done now... so far, so good, I would recommend it... Suzy - I just learned about fist drills last weekend, I will be adding them in from now on... we did 25 fist and 25 free over and over... we also did one arm swims - left 25, right 25, catch up 25, free sprint 25... I found it to really good as well... Trevor - got the shorts - thanks and congrats on figuring a way to get two countries worth of holidays off.... Kim - at least your weren't dreaming of John... That would have been good for several pages.... Hope everyone had a great T-Day, my was great - the family sitting around the dinner table on the ship at Gr Cay was great! We all have so much to be thankful for! |

![]() Question for the experts...... I'm starting a marathon plan today (from Runner's World). I put in my marathon from last March and selected the "very hard" plan. I like the plan overall, but one thing is the pace....get this, it's too slow. The plan gets me to where I think I want to go in my March '10 race, but many of the training runs put the pace about 1 minute slower than where I find my pace during an easy run. To me this seems a little "off". Experts please weigh in. Thanks, and have a great Monday ![]() |

To me this seems a little "off". Experts please weigh in. Thanks, and have a great Monday ![]() First, you are using your marathon time from a year ago....if you have been running consistently, you are probably faster than your pacing from a year ago even though you haven't run the distance. If you have done a half between last March and today, plug that into the McMillan Calulator to see what your marathon pace might look like. Second, are we talking long runs or your easy days? If you are talking long runs, I would go with the recommendation. One thing I have learned is I can go a lot harder on my hard days if I stick to the ridiculous ez pace on my long run days. Plus you are building mitochondria which is really important to endurance training. If we are talking, your easy 6 milers, I think you can stick with whatever your current ez pace is today so long as you are TOTALLY ready for those speed work days. My two cents from the injured runner...... |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hello BT Family, I am trying very hard not to participate in Cyber Monday, so I am on BT instead. Lots of interesting reading. Linda...this one time, at band camp......... (Sorry I couldn't help it). And I hear you about drinking. I had 3 cidars on Friday night and, well, lets just say I was a very happy girl Friday night and very unhappy Saturday morning. Roni - beautiful daughter. I served many a troop Thanksgiving meal growing up with an Army Dad - wonderful extended family. Barry - very cool photo of your son. Kim, there was a former Biggest Loser competing at Beach 2 Battleship. He had cameras following him all day but the camera crew had no clue what was going on. When I was waiting to go out on the run the news woman covering the story asked me what the distances were for the race and how many miles were in a marathon. You think they would have done their homework. Steve - there was some serious anger going on on ST in the link you posted. I couldn't make it past the first page. Welcome back Andy. Chris- smokin' sweet bike. Very nice. My husband just finished building my daughter's bike last night. I'll have to post some photos when I get home. She is so excited and has been practicing changing her gears. I sent around an email to my local training group to see if there was any interest in participating in a local half marathon in March (Doug the Tabacco Trail half) and my husband called me up and asked what I was smoking? He said I haven't been cleared to do any running, let alone train for a half marathon. I tried to explain I wouldn't start running until January but he told me he would find a nice 5k for me to do and that if I didn't obey I was going to ruin all chances for Canada 2011. Don't you just love bossy, bullying, controlling, protective, loving, supportive guys ![]() |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So I have completed 2 weeks with Coach Marty. It is going well and is enlightening. He tailors the work outs to what machines I have access to. Once a week he offers to do a workout together. Last tuesday we did 4.8 miles of trail running in Umstead Park in Cary, NC. As I told my wife " I was breathing and he wasn't" but what I meant was I was working at it and he seemed to be coasting. At about mile 4 I wanted to walk this one hill, but did not say a word and kept going, knowing that I would be happy with myself afterward if I kept going and I was. Otherwise I would ahve beat myself up mentally. This sunday we are running 9 miles together. I like that I tell him how I am responding to the workouts, good and bad andhe makes suggestions. This is what I wanted unlike the printed plans you can find all over the place, namely something that is continually tailored to where I am at that moment. BTW I felt great after yesterdays 8+ miles of running. I am thinking I may buy a multi-pass to the new aquatic center in town so that I can get a weekly swim in with Marty's guidance. Doug P.S. Tracy I have not ridden rollers in over 25 years. I used to ride them in college. They are the bomb for developing your balance, but you will need to set them up in a good place to start. And by good I mean a place where if you fall off you wont get hurt and one where you have something to grab onto if you need it. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Suzy, I was catching up on my reading so it is a few pages back. On page 449 Steve posted a link to ST about Matt Hoover and his Kona slot. It was in response to Kim's post about the Biggest Loser. Doug, I've been told to set them up in a door frame. And glad to hear your are liking your coach. That is what I will be looking for as well. I want more than a cyber plan to follow, I want someone I can access and say, "I feel like this..." and they say, "you are suppose to" or "let's try this." Hope things continue well for you. If you are referring to swimming at TAC, they are a great facility. Sometimes you get lucky and their olympic pool is set up with 50yd lanes for longer lap workouts. |

I wish I lived on this side of town as Marty does and it would open more opportunities to workout with him. The door frame is a great location. Just like swimming smooth is a good, riding rollers develops a smooth pedal stroke. It would probably make me nervous to do them now, so I will stick with the CT and the road. |
