In the US - there are SOOO many places still I wanna see!  I've yet to go to Vegas... :-(  Which i've heard...everyone needs to go once.. :-D  I also REALLY want to go to Alaska..right around this time of year, when the days are really long... I've never been to Hawaii either - def want to go!

Outside US -
Greece :-(Yes Victoria, I'm jealous!!)
Italy (again - went to Rome in HS..)
Australia & New Zealand (both are too close to each other not to go...)
Carribeans

And I'm sure TONS of other places... I actually just took a trip to Ireland in March.  (No I don't have family there) That was FANTASTIC!! There is SOO much to see and do.  It's beautiful there!  And Ireland has a LOT of interesting history.  I gave my grandpa a book for his birthday (early May) and he was very impressed and suprised how Ireland basically evolved, but kind of seperately from Rome and Greece area...I definitely want to go back and definitely recommend!

Long TOPPAGE travel post...

2nd Week's Team Standings for the June Challenge.....

It looks like we have a new leader....!

1st place - JUNE BUGS - 42.3%
2nd place - Taser Running - 39.8%
3rd place - Team Trifecta - 38.8%

What will happen NEXT week? Will Team June Bugs keep the lead? Will Team Taser Running break out the TASERS? Will Team Trifecta put on a strong showing and move up?

Stay tuned. The month is only 47% completed. The third update will be posted next week.

Stay motivated! Keep running! (And don't forget the secondary challenge: the POST PADDING challenge!)

- Dee

YEAH BUGS!! Keep it up and don't forget to update the spreadsheet!

I had a long ride scheduled for today and was very excited but we had MAJOR thunderstorms last night and flooding on several roads. So, when I went out this morning, in the dark, I hit several puddles that I couldn't see and I decided to turn around and come home and put the bike on the trainer. I am such a chicken when it comes to riding in wet conditions but I just don't want to wipe out.

I could have taken the MTB on the beach but it was high tide and it is hell riding during high tide. I watched a movie while I pedaled 21 miles on the trainer. The movie was cute but the trainer was a BORE!! Looking forward to my run tomorrow. Did I just say that? YEP, that was me. I am looking forward to my run tomorrow!

lkc01234 - 2009-06-14 4:49 PM This will be my last one about Chicago...(and please realize I've not lived here all my life...so there is SOOO much to see and do that I don't know about - but this is very basic)

FOOD:
- MUST HAVE CHICAGO style PIZZA!!!  whether it be Lou Malnati's or Giordano's or Aurelios or ?!?!  I know you said you don't eat too much greasy...but this is worth the splurge - and one piece is usually enough!!
Also depending on if you're staying in burbs:
- Portillo's is REALLY good.  It's a hot dog place and polish sausage and all that stuff - but they actually have pretty good salads too.
- Other "chicago" known places - Billy Goats Tavern (kinda in the greasy food though) but they are the place from the SNL skit: "Cheezborger! Cheezborger! No fries, cheeps! No Pepsi, Coke!"?  There are a couple locations - one is on Navy Pier, while not the "original" place...Navy Pier is pretty cool too (big ferris wheel there...)
-Also there is a popcorn place - that silly me hasn't been to - but is supposed to be really good - called garrett popcorn which has the "Chicago" mix which is caramel corn and cheddar popcorn...which sounds kinda gross - but is yummy!
- Signature room in John Hancock building (the other tall building in Chicago)  Is a good place for lunch - not terribly expensive.  I've never been there but my mom RAVES about the bathrooms.  She says the woman's bathroom on the 96th floor (or something like that) have a FANTASTIC view :-D

Chicago-style hot dogs are a must to do.

I grew up in Milwaukee and I have a lot of family in the Chicago area.  Reading all this is making me a little homesick.

doctorbob18 - 2009-06-14 1:34 PM ok still no motivation but its time to GO OUTSIDE! its finally nice and I've been on the computer since I woke up (except ~15min to do an ab workout). Seriously, all I do is complain when the weather is bad and now its nice.. time to wake up!

Here is a kick in the tail to motivate you

KICK!
thanks for the kick in the butt, it definitely worked! just got back from a long brick: rode one of my favorite routes up Hunter mountain (~48mi) then ran 3 miles. Wooo now I'm beat!

Mel -

I live in chicago suburbs?  Always lots to do in the summer!  Who all would be going (family trip or just adults?)  Where would you stay?

I would say pm me (and you can) but that wouldn't help post padding... :-P

Just the grown up.   Not sure where we will stay.

Congrats to the nephew!!  Did you bring your podcasts to the ceremony?

Ouch mom, I'm crossing my fingers and toes for you too in the hopes that she won't need surgery.  Poor thing, glad she's not feeling it though.

I had the namo, but they had families assigned to pews and we were in direct line of sight with the Bishop.  Even I'm not that bold.

Or what about places that you havn't been but always wanted to go?

OK, realize there are no popularity points in the following statement, but I travel a ton for work and long to stay home and just spend lazy weekends driving/training into NYC and seeing the sights.  Have been thru most of Europe, and Croatia is my hands down favorite.  A lot like Italy, but less crowded and inexpensive.  Beautiful coastline.  While the big cities are "must sees" the less traveled cities (Budapest, Prague, Ljubljana etc) are really worth seeing before they get too touristy.  Have been to Japan, but still want to go to China.  Africa is next on my list.  I want to see elephants, lions and giraffes, oh my.

Can't help it.  Have nothing interesting left to say tonight, but need to get us to the next page.  No running this weekend (other than the slugfest Friday night) but that was factored in the plan.

For the night owls, keep the posting ahead of Trifecta.  This Junebug signing off.

In spite of my being behind schedule with my running June Bugs are #1

My heel is feeling better than it was but I skipped today's run and will give it one more day before I try to run again on Tuesday. After Tuesday I'll decide if I need an injury reduction to my goal or if I need to drop out of the challenge.

Go Bugs!

thats good to hear your heel is feeling better. I know its hard to skip workouts but sometimes its for the best to make sure you let your body get over injury
