Master 2468![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Muskego, Wisconsin | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official ThreadDream Chaser - 2010-01-21 8:18 AM swishyskirt - 2010-01-20 5:41 PM This got lost at the bottom of page 40-something, so I am reposting, in between the discussion of seat height and supported LP rides. swishyskirt - 2010-01-18 9:08 PM Anyone here do IMLP on the BT Ironman plan (the free one)? I might tweak things here or there, but I guess I'd just like someone to say "Yeah! That's a great plan and if you stick to it and do the work, you'll totally cross the finishline!" Currently, I'm trying to do extra bike workouts so I have a stronger base on that going into the spring, since my biking sucks. (As does my swimming, but I know you can gain far more on time/energy by being a better cyclist than being a better swimmer). I haven't done an Ironman yet... but I am using the BT Beginner HIM plan now (loosely), and then will segway into the BT Intermediate Plan on, I think, the second week in March. And I will follow that 20 week plan closely. All I have to say is: They better freaking work! I've used BT IM plans for both my races (neither was IMLP) and I felt very comforable going into each race and completing each race. I think I did the intermediate and the advanced. I'll be loading up the advanced plan again in March. My fitness was perfect (for what I wanted to accomplish) my only problem has been with locking down my nutrition which is still a work in progress. |

Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official ThreadTransition Question: I was just reading an Ironman RR and it dawned on me -- how do we Transition? Meaning, do we have transition bags with our numbers on them? We go into the change tent and take our helmet and sunglasses out of a bag and then put our wetsuits back into the same bag? How does that work for T1 and T2? |

Extreme Veteran 398![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sea Isle City, NJ | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official ThreadDon't sweat it. It is an extremely organized event. They strip off your wetsuit at the waters edge and then you carry it with you and run on a carpet up to the transition area which are tents is inside the oval. Same place the bikes are located. Before you go into the tents, you run through the bag area and someone either gets your bag for you or you pick it yourself. Each bag gets a race number sticker. Then into the tent. You get what you need for the bike and stick your swim stuff back into the same bag. The tent can be a little hectic (especially if it is raining and muddy) but everyone is so jacked up it is electric. Out you go to get your bike and one of the volunteers takes your bag with swim stuff and hangs it back on the racks for you to pick up after the race. Pretty much the same thing happens on the run except this time you pick up your run bag. Don't sweat it too much as you set them up the day before and everyone has an assigned spot on the racks by race number. It's all good. |

Expert 1245![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() New York | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official ThreadYou have bags for each transition, which are labeled/color coded and then hung up in an area right next to the changing tents under your race number. Volunteers direct you to your bag, though they're in numerical order. You grab your appropriate bag, bring it into the tent, do your T1 thang, whatever that may be (change, food, meds, whatever), leave your previously used items with the volunteer, they package it all up again and hang it back up at your number. T2, rinse and repeat, except you obviously grab the second bag. I thought it was pretty amazing. Pics attached (the bags hung up neatly, the craziness of sorting them and rehanging them, and them hung up neatly again--what a system!). You may get your bike yourself or a volunteer may have it ready at the end of the row for you. Wow.  Cool.  Thanks for the informative answers. Okay.  Sorry if those pics scared anyone.  Just from a silly movie.  It's easy to 'freak out' cause I work at home, alone, with nobody to talk me down from the ledge.  I mean, I have a dog but his english is a little sketchy. |

My aero helmet is kind of flimsy in the pointed area and I'm hoping it'll be fine in the bag. Breathe just breathe. I think I'm gonna get outside for a bit and go for a run. I need it!

My advice is place items like, socks, gloves, shirts, Garmins or what even you want to remind dry in zip lock bags then place them in the transition bags. Same goes for the special needs bags. |

Extreme Veteran 353![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() New York | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official ThreadThanks everyone for the awesome detailed info about transition, etc. I'm like you Dream Chaser, I love to visualize and mentally go through every tiny aspect of a race, and get frustrated when I don't have enough info to do that, so thank you for asking the questions and thanks everyone else for answering them. Keep the details coming! The more I know, the calmer it helps me feel. I try to avoid looking at the calendar and counting how much time is left, especially since I've been sick the past week and my training has suffered accordingly. I agree with tasr, it's gonna go FAST from now on. I want to enjoy every second of it--I'm finally training for an Ironman and that is an amazing, cool new experience. Woohoo! Good luck everyone! My advice is place items like, socks, gloves, shirts, Garmins or what even you want to remind dry in zip lock bags then place them in the transition bags. Same goes for the special needs bags. One more thing to add to this. Even though you drop off your transition bags & bike the day before the race, you can access everything race morning. And x2 to the Zip-lock bags. It may rain overnight as well as during the race. Special needs you do not drop off until race morning. It is down past the swim start. I hung up my morning clothes bag with all my stuff in it, walked to SN to drop my bags with only my wetsuit, cap & goggles. It was kind of a far walk on the road with bare feet. This year I will either walk up & drop my SN bags before I put my shoes in my morning clothes bag, or I will buy a cheap pair of flip flops and ditch them at the swim start. |
