sdalessio - 2011-01-05 7:14 AM So Early AM Accountability Call - who was up early?

I was of course since I'm asking.  Tongue out  I was up before 5am after a few short hours of sleep for Masters practice.  Last night packing for our trip and trying to settle down 2 wild, excited children.

I WAS!  Out the door at 5:45 for an easy 2 mile run.  Would have been an easy morning to bail, as I only had a short run to do, and it was pouring rain, but I truly felt like an IRONMAN out there this morning in the dark and pouring rain.  As car lights would hit me, I am sure the passers by were thinking "what an idiot".  It was actually pretty fun.

Sam and Tony, have fun on your trip.  How long will you guys be down there.  I am headed down to Orlando on Tuesday for the International Home Builders Show.

Way to get it done!  War Eagle!  You up for in the morning again?  Me - have to do a swim - training plan says 3000yds, but I am hoping to get half that on  my first week back...

Oh Yea!  I am on it.  Did my short run this morning with an hour on the bike tonight doing FTP intervals.  In the morning will be a 4 mile run with a swim in  the evening.  I am liking the commitment and change of schedule.  I was ready for bed by 9 last night and whipped after my first swim in a while.  3000 could be a load.  Last night I did 2300, but some of that was kicking drills.  My goal was to just keep moving.  Good luck with that.

What a feeling. The one day I channeled you and did a super-early long run, I loved it. Great job, Linda! You are one dedicated woman!!

I introduced the bracelets to my brother about a year or so ago.  We have sold over 3 thousand of them at our building supply store.  Power Balance was selling alot better than lumber for a while.  Ordering them 1000 at a time from China.  I'd say they work pretty well

Thanks gang!  We hope to have fun and enjoy the week.

Sounds like a lot of hard core training is starting up.  Stay strong and stay healthy.  And remember the early morning workouts will all be worth it at the finish line.

My favorite workout item - my pink oh so soft, comfy and non-chafing sports bra.  For some strange reason I only have one of that brand and I always look for it on long runs.  I should really buy some more.

Gosh, I woke up and realized it's WEDNESDAY!!!!!  Who's racing? and how're you going to handle it??

For the rest of us, when do you officially start training for your first A race? has it already begun? how's it going?

Me - I'm racing.  Disney Half Marathon on Saturday and Disney Marathon on Sunday.  How am I going to handle it? Lots of drinking and I don't mean water.  ;-)

Tony and I plan to take it easy, go slow and have fun.  Disney gives little cameras in the goody pages so we will take some pics along the way.  Our goal is the finish no matter how slow.

"A" race training for my spring Marathon has already started.  Traininig is going ok.  I'll see how this weekend goes.  I think I'll need to do a little regrouping w/ my coach and get back on track.  He seems to have more confidence in me than I do at the moment.

Good luck on your race this weekend! Have fun!

absolutely.  tell us what plan you're using to help answer this.

saturdays I drive to Lajunta hour away swim and then go do my long run. There is possibly going to be a 5k race also on that day. I believe my long run is 14miles w/o looking at the plan at this time

Should I run the 5k then run the full 14  or run the full 14 then the 5k or run part of the 14 then the 5k or vice versa I am questioning this becuase I don't want to ruin any gain I have made in the training I have already completed.

No races this weekend, but I'm doing a biking time trial (with Dave, actually) on January 22.  Actually it is Jan the 29th!!! So Dave, cover your ears/eyes....  I'm super nervous and worried that I'm going to pull the team down!  And I have no idea what to expect.  ...Okay Dave, now you can read again.

Questions:

(1)  I want so badly to do the Door County HIM in July, but I'm super nervous that I will not be ready for the swim, especially because a majority of my training will be for the half mary in May.  Any tips for starting from scratch?  I haven't swam since like August...yuck.

(2)  What is everybody's favorite piece of workout clothing?  I'm always curious to know!

Erica....you will do great in the TTT (Don't let Minnow catch you being negative, she will climb all over ya!!!).  No worries, it is just for fun anyway.  Our team will not even compete for the front with some of the teams of "roadies" that I know are going to show up.  But you are gonna be on a trainer so no way anybody gets dropped!!  Laughing  AND, you were gonna pay $15.00 to get into the expo anyway, why not pay $23.00 and get to ride, get a t-shirt, get a water bottle, and get bragging rights about being hard-core for the year!!!!

About Door County HIM.  You will be fine.  Just do a couple of OW swims in Lake Michigan for 15 to 20 minutes a couple of weeks before the race to get used to being in the cold water.... It just proves your a hard core triathlete to be out swimming in sub 60 degree water.  Ask around in the WI forum or on the Door County Iron forum, I am sure people will be doing swim / bike combinations as the race approaches.    Or better yet....come and do Racine the same weekend with Suzy and I!!!!

Favorite piece of workout clothes-   Nike pro compression shorts, soft / comfortable / and much better than that Under Armour crap!!!

SoccerGK - 2011-01-05 8:06 AM Crap, I just typed up a big long message, and it didn't go through.  Ughhhh...

Now I'll just summarize, I guess...

NEW new year's resolution - keep up with you guys on this forum.  I will try my best...

Did I tell you guys I got a garmin 310xt for Christmas?  It's awesome.  New favorite thing ever.

Disney sounds awesome.  I wish I was going, too!

I wish I could go to the tri on May 15 with everyone, but I'll be running my first ever half-marathon on that day, and Ryan will be running his first ever marathon and trying to BQ that day.  I'm too pumped for this race to change it!

No races this weekend, but I'm doing a biking time trial (with Dave, actually) on January 22.  So Dave, cover your ears/eyes....  I'm super nervous and worried that I'm going to pull the team down!  And I have no idea what to expect.  ...Okay Dave, now you can read again.

I was up at 5am on the drainer!  But since Ryan is up at 4am every day, it doesn't feel like much of an accomplishment anymore!

I quit my job on Monday, also!  My last day will be January 28, which is awesome because it means more studying/training time.  And I get away from my monster of a boss.  Yessss!

Questions:

(1)  I want so badly to do the Door County HIM in July, but I'm super nervous that I will not be ready for the swim, especially because a majority of my training will be for the half mary in May.  Any tips for starting from scratch?  I haven't swam since like August...yuck.

Okay...now back to work!

garmin 310 is awesome. Make sure you get the cadense. And the quick release. they have a new one that uses the orange wristband. The first one that came out had a crappy black band.

fav piece of clothing - CWX insulator tights. Although they are a bit warm with the weather we've had lately.

Chris, I can only hope it get's better quickly! When I say Forever, I really mean like 9 months and it was pretty spotty before that.  I decided to try and get myself to the pool twice a week and work on building up to 1500 meters which for most of you I know isn't a big deal but since I've been there and done that this is all I want to make time for.   Once that is done, I want to get with a local coach and have her work on my stroke.

Actually, I'm not sure which I should do first.  See the coach or work on the distance.  Thoughts?

Coach first - it will make getting to the distance happen sooner...  Just a few coaching sessions made tremendous improvement in my swim - I mean like night and day...

X2

without the coach last year I would have NEVER got up the distance/volume I needed. I would have been swimming but I would have been putting in twice the effort to get half the distance. So I say COACH.

It was night and day differeance after just a few weeks of going. Mind you it was the masters team so the coach only got to spend 2-5 mins here and there with me through the night. But having her work with me 4-5 times a night through the 90 mins of swimming was AMAZING.

Night one she looked at me and said the pool is 25 meters how many times do you think you can do that non stop. I said. ha at least 8 I am a scuba diver.  I barely made 50 meters. Yup there and back and I was out of breath.

Now I am here complaining that I took 3 weeks off and barely did 2350 meters in 70 mins last night.

Trust me you will get to a point soon with a coach where it just clicks. I was swimming in the beginners lane last year, I have already moved up to lane 3 now and I am still a 216lb 5' 6" short fat guy. I moved to lane two mid september and by Mid october they kicked me out and over to lane 3. Which is good the lady leading it is PUSHING ME HARD to improve.

Whoops, glad you caught that!  I would have figured it out when I got there and the building was empty!  Haha!  I am very excited about it, but it'll be my first time trial, so it's a bit daunting.  I've really been pushing Jorge's plan to try and get over 19.5mph, buuuut who knows.  I will let you know what my new LT test results are on Monday!

And I'd LOVE to do Racine with you guys.  It was actually my pick over Door County.  BUT Ryan wanted DC since it's cheaper and apparently prettier, and I only really wanted Racine because it goes through the zoo!  I figured his reasons are probably better than mine!

Should I run the 5k then run the full 14  or run the full 14 then the 5k or run part of the 14 then the 5k or vice versa I am questioning this becuase I don't want to ruin any gain I have made in the training I have already completed.

you will not loose any fitness.  and you do not need to nor should you run 17 miles so lets scratch doing both 14m and 5k.

when is your long ride?  sunday?

To redeem myself from blowing off this morning's spinning class, I did a 3.5 run at lunch today.

There, I feel better!

Dino

Well, I agree with Ryan.  I do think Door would be prettier and a nicer course, but for me the proximity is the driving force behind doing Racine (and seeing Dineen of course!!!).  And you really don't run through the zoo, just behind it.  I think last year I caught a whiff of the rhino Surprised!!

LOL, is it bad the president of my company scanned in a picture of Sam and I at our company Christmas party in 2000 and uploaded pictures from our 2010 party and I am wearing the exact same suit and tie in both pictures...Probably about 30-40 lbs heavier in 2000 than 2010
