Also, if you guys fire up the grill, be careful it gets hot.  And when it gets hot its not a good idea to put your hand on it.

That sounds like some sort of clever play on words.  Not sure I get it, but am thinking it is directed toward someone smack talking about Lonestar.....maybe?

i wish.  at least i was holding a beer in my hand when i did it so the entire palm isn't burned.

and its hard to talk smack when i'm the only one racing there that actually has been doing something the past month.  of course i need it more than everyone... but still.  good to finally see people getting off there butts and doing something.

and its good to see you back in the pool too.  ;-)

you're supposed to put your hand close to the coals test the heat, not on the coals...

ha. i forgot that part.

SUPER HUGE CONTRATS TO KIM AND RONI!!  You are both amazing and so inspiring.  GREAT JOB!!!!

Suzy - concerning George's absence on Lance's team, I have a few thoughts on that one. First, I think what happened at the Tour with George loosing his stage win really pi**ed him off and I think that is still a sore spot.  Second, and more important, I've seen interviews with him where he explained how he likes being on teams where he is the senior member and therefore a real leader and teacher to younger riders. He has been in this sport for a very long time and has a lot of experience to pass along.  This just reinforces my great opinion of him as a very classy guy.  And I agree, I think the Tour will be GREAT this year. I hope Lance and Levi team up with the Schleck brothers to put a world of hurt on Contador!!!!   And regardless, I think Cavendish is smokin' hot!!   Tony, I know you think he is an arrogant but I like a little cockly with my bike booty!!!!!  Have you seen the decoration on his bike?

Hey Kim

cool write up and i'm so proud of you.  i was wondering... at what point did you know you were heading to boston? or maybe what point did it start to become a reality?   i think you needed a 3:40 right?   or did you not allow yourself to think about it until you crossed the line?

Kim and Roni, great job to both of you.

Re: Hincappie...while a stage win would be neat is the Tour an entitlement program?  If he wants a stage win he should ride better or find a team to support the effort better.  That's not to say the way he was chased down was nice, but is a RACE, isn't it.

And as of Saturday I'm no longer allowing myself to be a sorry, fat POS.  I ran Saturday for the first time in...for ever.  I've had the urge for a while, but hadn't.  During the ran it came to me - excuses had taken over.  Too busy, injured, too tired, etc.  BULLSH*T!!!  Get off your a** and do something!

Man I feel better!!!

Wasn't Hincapie in contention for the overall, not a stage win, and it was prevented by Astana?

Reuben - I hear you on the excuses, I'm full of them lately.  Work, kids, weather, the winter weight packed on before Christmas, lack of support at home for HIM training.  I realized that it's catching up to me this morning when spin class was very difficult.

Well, i needed 3:50 which was well within my sights at the get go, so my real goal was 3:30 with a stretch of 3:25.  i knew when i hit the half at 1:40 that i was still feeling very good, the headwinds had already started right at about your mile (11) and they weren't bothering me too much, my heartrate was still holding pretty steady...i was pretty sure I wouldn't negative split, but a 2 hour half marathon would still get me to Boston, so I just kept going with the plan, and managed to keep under 8 min miles all the way until mile 23.  Pretty awesome feeling.

Honestly, Boston is a great goal to achieve, and I have been blessed with no injuries throughout the training, but the best part about this marathon was finishing the last 47 minutes running my a$$ off, and pushing my body to the limits.  It hurt something fierce (not just the calf cramp) but going into a Z4 10K effort after 2:45 of Z2/Z3.  I do think that this is where all of the speed work, hill repeats and tempo training came in handy...knowing how much it was going to hurt in advance helped, too.

Steve had me do Z3 and Z4 efforts during my long run training and they really hurt, but it made me ready for that feeling during the marathon.  I easily could have just walked after the calf cramp but I honestly didn't want to have my coach see a Z1 effort for the last 1.5 miles on my Garmin!  Having to explain that would have sucked, big time!

All in all it was a great way to end the season!  Well, now I have 2 recovery weeks and then a HIM to get ready for.  yikes.

Matt and Reuben, way to go for getting back at it.  thank you everyone for your awesome support!

You can say whatever you want about Cavendish, but until you are cranking out 1600 watts or anything close--- WE HAVE NOTHING TO SAY!  The guy is amazing!

Race report is up. I've never been this sore in my life! I'm blaming it on the car ride. Hope everyone is having a great day! I'll catch up with the thread when I get back to The Dalles.

Still a good job Roni, as I responded to your RR, looked like you would have finished within time without the extra markers.

When I injured my back a few years ago, I did some yoga stretches that helped relieve the pressure.  Cobra/Upward facing dog was the most helpful.  A google seach for yoga and back pain will lead you to some useful information.

Kim and Roni: You are an inspiration I hope I can complete my 26.2 miles on 3/21.

I have been back in full training mode since the beginning of November. I have shed 13.6 pounds in that time, some of which I gained during the season and after. I am working my way to a new level of fitness.

I just got a fun package with a pair of Brooks Beasts, two Zipp bottle cages, two inner tube for my trainin wheels and a fuel belt. Combine that with the 20% off i got at the local Tri shop saturday and a discount for eventsd sponsored by a local tri-company I am a happy man. =).

Can you not get an appt before 1/14?  I had back issues last fall, they thought it was a buldging disc, and I was in severe pain...not able to move period.  Ends up it was something else, but if you are having that kind of pain I would hate to think you are going to suffer for the next month...especially through the holidays.

Oh man Reuben.  Jarrett is over there laughing her a$$ off.  Priceless man.

As a thank you, which he absolutely did not have to do, Reuben took that picture of me getting out of the water at my last HIM that I posted here and made a motivational poster, of sorts, out of it.  It says

Reality
When training falls short... humor takes over.

AWESOME!  Its getting framed and going in the office.  The folks at work are going to love it.

Thanks big guy!!!!  Glad you guys are using and enjoying the Wii!

edit.. ok andy.   to big to scan so i had to take a pic for you.

I would just be careful until then.  Maybe see if you can get an appointment sooner?  Bad back is a major PITA.

Oh and the Bevo reference sounded familiar and remembered where it was from when I was watching the game on Saturday, they bareley squeaked by Nebraska.  How do you like their chances vs. Alabama?

OMG Reuben - that is priceless!!!  You are warped - no wonder you fit in sooo well with this group....

John - you are 100% right about framing that one for work...

Eric - try to get that back checked out faster than Jan 14...  it could get much worse by then and seriously impact the summer tri season...
