Things seem to be going really well til today when I raced an olympic tri. Swim sucked, bike had GI issues and couldn't produce any power and run felt okay but was slow. Back to the drawing board.

I'm following the Be Iron Fit plan, so my run is just at 1:50 - probably 10-11 miles (and that's actually ahead of plan). I'm not worried though. I had a great run in Louisville last year (by my standards, lol) so I know the plan will get me where I need to be.

Ran a 1/2 mary in New Orleans 70.3 in early April after many months of no running due to knee issues.  My time was off by about 20 minutes, but I finished unhurt.  Ran none until a 10k at St. Anthony's in late April, which again was a little slow but I finished unhurt.  I've gone to a combination of running 2-3 miles to the gym, then completing the bulk of the longer runs on the dreaded treadmill before running home.  It breaks up the run and works if you can stand the boredom.  I got 13 in over the long Memorial weekend, sandwiched between two 50+ mile, tough rides.  The knee is still holding up, although there are times I can feel it a bit.  I'm just trying to figure out how to get in as many training miles as possible without blowing the knee up even more.

I hope to get to the start line unhurt, and 20% undertrained.

Well lets hope we are getting our bad day out of the way and smooth sailing from here on for the next 13 weeks!

My entire IMKY 08 race was all about lousy GI issues!!  This year TUMS and Rolaids will never be out of arms reach for me.

I am not sure what is going on. Two years ago (when in much better shape than currently) had no issues at all. Did an oly, 2 HIM's and IM and no problems. Last year had issues at IM AZ and this year have had issues, NOt sure if it is posistion on the bike (probably not as flexible as I use to be) or if it is swim issues getting too much air and feeling bloated. Going in to get my fit checked on Thursday.

Thanks everyone for the feedback on longest runs so far. I guess I feel more up to speed than I thought. It just seems like all of a sudden this race is upon us and the cold of winter and early spring is gone and it is go time.

I know what you mean.  I keep having the same feeling.  I did a HIM a few weeks ago, and that was my longest run in recent memory.  But I'm on target with my plan, and I just keep telling myself to trust the plan...

To keep in my tradition of being the group calendar keeper, 90 short days to go. For me the 90 day mark is always a big one for some reason, it really starts gettin real now.

Good luck and great training to all!

Just joined BT this morning.  Wanted to say hello to everyone. Louisville will be my first IM race.  Just started Tris last year and did a 1/2 IM with a couple shorter course races also.  I couldn't be more excited as we quickly approach the day in Aug.  My longest run has been 14 miles to this point with numerous 12+ mile runs including 2 half marys in May.  I look forward to following everyone's progress and posts in the future.

Welcome!  I'm relatively new here too (and relatively new to Tri), but there are lots of old timers here who are very helpful.  I've learned a lot from everybody -- I hope you will too.

Alright, it's officially June.  Anyone still thinking about getting together in Louisville towards the end of the month?  I'm working on planning my work schedule for the month and we have a job in KY right now that I would like to hit but would also like to coordinate it with a trip to Louisville if possible.

Hope everyone's training is going well....hard to believe it's the 90 day mark already...I am just the official jockstrapper for my sister, and for ALL OF YOU as well!!!

I didn't read through too many of the recent pages, so I apologize if I missed this, but when is the tshirt order being sent through?  I would really like to order one so you all see me out there cheering for my fellow BT'ers!!!

Thanks!

Mornin everybody.  Ran 5 on the street last night.  Felt good to get off the treadmill.

Still working out my IM nutrition plan.  Just bought a wing to add two bottles behind the seat, which will allow me to carry a total of 5 bottles if needed, although I'm concerned about the extra weight.  Ideally, at all times I'd have available a bottle of plain water, a bottle of G-E or Gu20, and a bottle of nutition "cocktail".  But without the wing I can only carry three, limited to one of each, and I want to be sure I don't run low.

Can any of you IM-Lou veterans give some insight on frequency and milemarkers for the bottle exchanges and bike special needs?  Specifically, I may start out light a couple bottles and then add bottles after the string of climbs in the first 30 miles.

Also, staying in the race hotels, I don't believe I'll have a way to freeze bottles.  Anyone have any ideas on how to get this done?  Bribe the chef?

Any thoughts?

Thoughts on the bottles......don't even consider carrying 5 bottles!

What I do...and this isn't for everyone but.......

start with water in the aero bottle and two bottles of IM Cocktail on the wing....and the bottle cage on the frame empty......if I need more water than I can drink at the aid stations (about every 10 miles or so) then I keep part of a bottle that I get from the aid in my fame cage......

Then at the Special Needs area, I pick up two fresh Cocktail bottles to replace the ones in the wing....(and if the ones I'm ditching aren't empty, I cuss myself to re-focus on nutrition).....this way the most I ever have on my bike is 2 full cocktail bottles and a partial water bottle...thereby saving 2 bottles worth of weight over what you were contemplating....

As for a freezer....ask the desk..NOW...call and ask for special consideration. I'm staying at one of the Marriott properties DT and I have arranged for a minifridge and they also took note of my IM participation (not sure what schwag that might bring but....it can't hurt!)

Not sure on the schwag yet as my sponsorship kit is in the mail but I DO know that I will be fairly early on the list for the NEW John Cobb-designed aero helmet!!  Should be more widely known after TdF.....I think Milram is riding this lid this year!

If you're downtown you can run the waterfront trail -- a paved path that goes past all the cruiseboat docks, etc. OR if you are really adventurous......try doing intervals up the PikePlace Hill Climb.....I did this LY....man, brutal!!
