Hi everyone! I've been following the blog for sometime but first time posting ...

1. Is this your first IM?
This not only is my first Ironman, it is the first time I have attempted anything of this magnitude

2. Have you done LP before?
Nope!

3. What are your goals for the 2010 race?
I would love to finish 13-14 hours but since I haven't done one have no idea if that's possible. I also don't want to be last in my age group (F18-24). But if I am I can say I got 8th in my age group!!

4. How/Why did you select the Lake Placid Race?
The timing and area - going to med school in fall so needed to do it before that. From northern MN so also want as much time outside as possible!!

5. Do you have any specific questions that you wish addressed about LP (the race, training etc)
Sorry if this is a repeat question, but has anyone stayed in Sarnac Lakes? This is the only place I could get in.

Welcome. I have stayed in Saranac Lake several times. It is quite close to LP and an easy ride in on race day. They also have buses. First race, eh, you are in for some fun! Enjoy the journey.

Spending lots of time riding and climbing here at tri camp in Solvang. My hotel is on the road that the Tour of CA does the Solvang TT.

I did get a carbon Scott road bike a women who did RAAM last year got from a guy who works with Lance Armstrong as his personal mechanic when he is in this area...I think the bike as good bike juju.

Riding outside in the sunshine is so awesome!

That's excellent Kathy, sounds like you're "enjoying" camp even after the bike shipment BS.

Count me in as jealous Kathy.  Good to hear the trip is going well.  I'd love to be riding outside in the hills.

I'm still in the trenches at 5am in the dark...but possible joy ride today for lunch.  Starting to gradually get warmer in CT.  One more month and we will be looking good.

Happy St Patrick's day!

both sets were addressed above.

I rode H3s, no worries except decent was a bit sketchy.

Doc rode H3 front and disc--see above.

Thanks Kate - After being out of school for a bit I'm so excited to go back. I'm just hoping to not have to give up training!

Skipping out of work early for the second day in a row to ride outside (today, a nice easy recovery ride).

Hoping this doesn't become a habit.

I think I can get it up over 50mph on the Keene decent!  You should see the tuck I can go into on it!  I have an extra set of Vision mini-tt clip on bars I need to get in there and maybe a custom wheel cover too.  My daughter is going to be stylin this summer!

Oh no! don't give up training...I look back (it was almost 17 years ago I started med school, yikes!) and wonder why in the world I wasn't doing triathlons back then...I actually had plenty of time thenWink.  A bit harder now with two kids and working full time.  This is my first IM, too.  Good luck.

Finally got a long ride in outside today. I was doing circles on a 3 mile loop with one side a headwind and the other side a tailwind. The winds and crosswinds were so strong I was averaging 23/24 on one side and 11/12 mph on the other side. But wind training - CHECK!

I have some nice weird tan/wind burn lines on me now... oh the start of tri training and crazy tan lines like that. Must remember sunscreen next time! I was so looking forward to going outside all winter and the first day I was out I almost regressed back to the trainer because of the wind! But I was happy to perservere.

I have a feeling that I'll still end up spending a lot of time on the trainer this season. I've always been a fan of getting outside, but people tend to scare me a little more these days. That combined with longer rides probably won't mix too well. One thing I can say is that the Computrainer RCV is a beast for IMLP. You don't get to enjoy the descent at all.

I think you can get used to long trainer rides without too much trouble.  My longer trainer rides are in the 4 plus hour range now.  If you build up to it, its not so bad.

I take it you have ridden the Computrainer RCV for Lake Placid. How do you like it? How close does it feel to the real course? (If you have ridden the course before). There is a chance I might be getting a Computrainer and was contemplating getting the RCV for IMLP.

I was potentially looking into that ERG video. I haven't ridden the real course, but my wife who did Placid last year said that it definitely more difficult on the Computrainer, because you don't get any of the real world relief and get nowhere near the same downhill speed on the Keene descent.
