I easily lose about 2 lbs. in an hour run. I'll do a more exact measurement this eveing on my run. Funny thing is that I do not have to use the restroom on a run hardly ever. I'll also do a measurement on my long ride this weekend. 3 hrs on the trainer.TriGuyBri - 2013-02-12 12:30 AM swbkrun - 2013-02-11 7:36 AM I think it was a bit too much water. I have another long one this weekend so we'll see how it goes. Never really thought much about the saddle adding to it. I don't have any more numbness after changing to the Adamo Road. It is a fairly new saddle setup for me. THX for the reply and thoughts.TriGuyBri - 2013-02-09 8:30 PM copa2251 - 2013-02-09 4:47 PM just got off my bike after another long trainer ride, really tough today but got it done. Trainer Road kicks your butt, there's never an easy section during the longer workouts it's just relentless. I find the hard shorter ones with tough intervals followed by recovery so much easier to handle. I think next weekend I'll get outside but the TR indoor workouts seem so much more effective that they sort of become addictive. If makes me worry that I won't get the same benefit if I go out on the road!?! Trainer day for me as well. 2 hrs. 45 min. Tried out Perpetumn and it went fine. 2 bottles plus a couple bottles of water and a Clif bar. First time I actually had to get off the bike ( twice) to go to the bathroom. 75 min run tomorrow and a 2500 swim.
Great ride... However 2x to use the restroom in under 3hrs? Were you hydrating a bunch beforehand as well? Keep an eye on that. When I had this issue I had to change out my saddle. The seat felt "fine" but it was causing me to use the bathroom a bunch on rides. It drove my friends crazy when we would go on group rides. Just something to keep an eye on. I would do a sweat test at a couple of varying temperatures once you hit the great outdoors. Takes the mystery out of how much fluid you need to ingest. |

What is that loss as a percentage of your total body weight? A 2% change alters performance. During IM training, I aim for not losing weight on the bike because it is easier to drink on it and it gives me a buffer for the run. I sweat enough running that it's impossible to keep up with the fluid requirements (e.g. I can usually ingest 28oz h20 per hour without getting sloshing, but in 85F temperatures I really sweat at a rate of 44oz/hr). Thanks for asking, Jayne No racing for me. Personally, I hate Valentines Day and that feeling carries over to the entire month of February. Had someone special hand me my walking papers on Valentines Day once a very long time ago--what an a$$. But, I LOVE TRIATHLON. I love to challenge myself and there's ample opportunity to do that between the three sports (and transitions). I also love the triathlon community. It gives me a sense of belonging and acceptance. There's nothing better than being around a bunch of other like-minded crazy folks. And I love to swim. It makes everything right in the world. |

I love the challenge that triathlon offers. You can be competitive against yourself and others. Some days I am amazed by what I can accomplish. I equally love the social aspect of the sport. I think I joined the MG four years ago and it has brought me some very good friends. The fact that we can communicate on here and then get together like we've know each other for a very long time is awesome. I miss some of the people who don't visit anymore. We also have a very good community in Madison. While I train solo 99% of the time, it's still fun to interact with them throughout the year. This is my first season so havent found the love yet as I have only completed one sprint in 2011. I am hoping to experience these great feeling you guys share. I also train alone most of the time, hard to do at times. Glad I already paid for Ironman Augusta so that is what keeps me motivated. I am not sure the one week you train great and feel good about the week and then the next its total opposite.

I'm running a HM Sunday to complete a local race series that began last spring. I love the feeling of accomplishment. Whether it comes from finishing a race or just a good workout, I am addicted to the feeling. I also like the time it affords me to get away from the demands and pressures of life and recharge mentally.

No racing for me, but I'm feeling the love of a great training week. As others have said, I like challenging myself, putting in the work, and seeing progress toward training and racing goals. Training is my therapy, and I can get pretty grumpy when I can't get my run or swim in. It's also become a way to spend time with the friends I've made through the sport. Good luck to David in your HM, and have fun Birdy - that's a lot of Disney! |

Tomorrow my daughter has an early basketball game and my husband has a sales dinner and I need to be two places at once shuttling kids. So romantic!!! I love many things about triathlon. I love the cross-training as I think the sports compliment each other and help us with recovery and getting stronger. I love the puzzle of a race in terms of nutrition, transitions, speed, pacing, etc. I love getting faster and stronger even as I get older. Most of all, I love the people I've met and the friendships I've developed. Oh, and I also love being a positive role model for my kids. |

Veteran 291 | Subject: RE: Swbkrun mentor group - Closed Ok I apologize for this long post but this is one of my favorite quotes, and seemed like a perfect spot for it. The guys can wince and the ladies can swoon “Only once in your life, I truly believe, you find someone who can completely turn your world around. You tell them things that you’ve never shared with another soul and they absorb everything you say and actually want to hear more. You share hopes for the future, dreams that will never come true, goals that were never achieved and the many disappointments life has thrown at you. When something wonderful happens, you can’t wait to tell them about it, knowing they will share in your excitement. They are not embarrassed to cry with you when you are hurting or laugh with you when you make a fool of yourself. Never do they hurt your feelings or make you feel like you are not good enough, but rather they build you up and show you the things about yourself that make you special and even beautiful. There is never any pressure, jealousy or competition but only a quiet calmness when they are around. You can be yourself and not worry about what they will think of you because they love you for who you are. The things that seem insignificant to most people such as a note, song or walk become invaluable treasures kept safe in your heart to cherish forever. Memories of your childhood come back and are so clear and vivid it’s like being young again. Colours seem brighter and more brilliant. Laughter seems part of daily life where before it was infrequent or didn’t exist at all. A phone call or two during the day helps to get you through a long day’s work and always brings a smile to your face. In their presence, there’s no need for continuous conversation, but you find you’re quite content in just having them nearby. Things that never interested you before become fascinating because you know they are important to this person who is so special to you. You think of this person on every occasion and in everything you do. Simple things bring them to mind like a pale blue sky, gentle wind or even a storm cloud on the horizon. You open your heart knowing that there’s a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible. You find that being vulnerable is the only way to allow your heart to feel true pleasure that’s so real it scares you. You find strength in knowing you have a true friend and possibly a soul mate who will remain loyal to the end. Life seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile. Your only hope and security is in knowing that they are a part of your life.” |

Has anyone used Carbon Pro. What I am liking is that you mix it with other fluids rather than its own mix like Infinite and Perpetumn from Hammer. Interested if you have thoughts about this product.THX Way delayed response......but I LIVE on Hammer's Sustained Energy on the bike. The longer the ride, the thicker I make it. 2 bottles of 9 scoops for an IM. As all of the oldtimers around here know, my nutrition is NOT stellar, but I think this is one thing that really works for me! |

Has anyone used Carbon Pro. What I am liking is that you mix it with other fluids rather than its own mix like Infinite and Perpetumn from Hammer. Interested if you have thoughts about this product.THX Do you mean Carbo Pro? I used it for the IM marathon twice. I mixed it with H20 and carried it in my Fuel Belt. I liked it because it has a low osmolality which made it very easy to digest. I also liked that it was virtually flavorless. When you are at the marathon stage of an IM, you can get pretty sick of sweet things. By the last 10K even this wouldn't go down and I would switch to H20. I did stop using it in favor of a custom Infinit blend for both the bike and run last year. What I realized is that the sole source of sugar, malodextrin was causing me some post effort GI issues which made recovery fueling difficult. Since I elminated the vast majority of malo from my sports drink I feel better post. Since I had such a tough race in '12, I can't say whether the switch was a good one or not. I can tell you that I was super sick of the Infinit at the start of the marathon, but gutted it down. If my new PowerBar gel blasts work in the March marathon, pretty sure that will be my choice for IM '13. My one caution to you is to watch how much you put in a single solution. As the density increases you have much greater likelihood of GI distress on the run.
Yes I meant Carbo Pro. Thank you for your insight this is helpful. I am going to try a few different types of nutrition including perpetum from Hammer Nutrition (probably the solids first) and also try Carbo Pro. Hopefully it comes in single serving sizes so I can try it out without buying a whole bunch. Again thanks.
It's one of the best "cocktails." Try mixing Carbo Pro with a Nuun. It's an awesome combination. Hmmmmm... (Thinking).... I don't like sweet drinks. I'm wondering what half a Nuun would taste like in a glass of vodka with ice??? Maybe I'll throw some Nuun in my purse for my school's auction next month and try it out, ha!!! need a like button. I was JUST thinking that!!! Probably goes back to my poor nutrition......! |

I know you are both right, but I'm not going to bag the March race. It's the first in a 4 race series that is my primary goal for the year. I will consider bagging the April 50 miler if I'm still having issues. The 50 miler is a stand-alone race, and I could live without that on my resume this year. He says the pain I've been having on the inside of my shin is medial tibial stress syndrome. I haven't run in a week and he says to wait AT LEAST another week, and then start back very slowly. Trying to stay positive....I can still swim, bike, run in the pool, etc. This should be an interesting way to train for my 50k on March 9th Speaking from experience and said in a comforting way "bag that March 50K" and focus on getting back to 100%. I've been stupid and regretted it. I bet if you asked Linda if she should have deferred Boston in '12, she would have said yes to save the leg and rehab. You have a very long list of races you're doing in '13. Gert well for them. I know it isn't easy to scrap something, but soul search and ask if it is smart to consider something like a 50K with only a few weeks to go.
X2 with Suzy - hard as it is to do, bagging it is the right call. I'd give a lot to be able to remake that decision from last year!!! I know you are both right, but I'm not going to bag the March race. It's the first in a 4 race series that is my primary goal for the year. I will consider bagging the April 50 miler if I'm still having issues. The 50 miler is a stand-alone race, and I could live without that on my resume this year. You can both reserve the right to say, "I told you so."
Sorry, Jayne, but I'm with Suzy and Linda on this one. I understand why you don't want to miss the first race in a series, but I think doing the race will put the rest of your season at risk. When I'm coming back from an injury and feeling impatient to be running faster or farther, I recite this little refrain: "It's better to be able to run tomorrow and the next day and the next day than to run faster or farther today." Good luck, and speedy recovery. |

Veteran 287 Tucson | Subject: RE: Swbkrun mentor group - Closed Jayne, I am sorry to hear about your running troubles. Take care of yourself and get better.I am still struggling with my aches and pains. My right IT band is really tight. Went back to PT yesterday and she said that it was "really bad". :-( Not what I want to hear. I also managed to tweak my left hip flexor on Monday like a dumb azz. Still hurts pretty good today. Yeah, I sure don't know when I will be back in action. I just keep swimming and try a run or bike ride every once in a while. My PT did some sort of tissue release thing in my IT band which hurt like crazy but hopefully will get things going. No racing here anytime soon. I love triathlon because it makes me feel ALIVE like nothing else. Well, the training anyway. I have yet to see how a race will make me feel. I can only imagine the thrill will be amazing. I am stuborn and have no intentions on giving up. I WILL reach my goals!Happy Valentines Day! Kiss your sweeties! |
