Member 108 | Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED February was a busy month and winding down with my first correct order sprint tri with open water swim this Saturday. A few of my Feb races like the HM and century were scheduled way back so it wasn't the most productive month of tri-training...too many days of tapering and recovering but at least I gained some experience and confidence. March goals: After this weekend, I will have 11 weeks until my first oly tri so I will be ramping up my distances esp my long base building weekend rides and runs which I actually kinda miss. I plan to continue swimming at least 4-5 days a week in addition some open water swims as well as to start doing more hilly bike rides. This particular tri is right near where I live so I'll be able to train at the same lake and ride the same routes as the tri...heard its a challenging one due to the bike portion but looking forward to the challenge. I have 2 friends doing the IM 70.3 Oceanside at the end of March which is only about 45min away from me. One knows the race director and brought up the idea of me being a volunteer specifically as a "catcher"...anyone do any tri volunteering ? I would have to stay away from the aid stations as I will probably start helping myself =)...Its a very popular race which I hope to do in 2014 so maybe this might give me a preferred slot.... The one thing I've been disappointed about this year is I have not gained any weight but I haven't lost any either. I'm still up 10 pounds from my run race weight last year so still about 20 pounds from my hopeful goal. Tri training has caused a revenous appetite which was already big before I started tri training. I do well during the week but weekends I lose. I become the cook over the weekend so that doesn't really help so much. I eat generally healthy but still need my vino and suds. So my goal again in March/April will be to shed those extra pounds, one at a time. Anyone up for a challenge ? J/K unless anyone is interested =) |

Finish line volunteers get the joy of watching people end their journey. I have volunteered in transition areas, as a bike course marshall, chip hand out and finish line as well as in the med tent (an old ER RN can manage a bit of dehydration and vomiting) It's a great way to see more of this sport and give back to it!!February was a busy month and winding down with my first correct order sprint tri with open water swim this Saturday. CLOSED Tri2Smile - 2013-02-27 7:36 PM DO THE SPRINT!UTTriman - 2013-02-27 6:59 AM Two February Goals down! 2 to go! (I'll finish them off tomorrow). I will miss my consistency goal (average 5 W/O per week for month) due to a really bad first week, but in the last three, I've not missed a single workout I planned to do, so I think that qualifies (I'll let the team decide) making it!. I'm with Fred, starting th think about and fill out my race plans. I'm pretty seriously considering attempting a sprint on March 16. I don't feel quite ready, but I realize I need to race again to get my confidence back, that I've Nicely done ! and I vote you do sprint =)
I just signed up for a mini sprint May 5 because it's an open water swim and I need to get in the open water more. |

CLOSED drfoodlove - 2013-02-27 11:13 AM In Other News: I had another monkey wrench thrown into my training plans yesterday, but for this I'm willing to let it go and just do my best to fit in workouts around it. I was invited by the White House to serve on a panel to discuss and make suggestions on how to support women in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) fields, and how to increase female student participation in those fields. Needless to say, I think this is going to be a lot of work, but it is very important to me, so I'll make it work. That's awesome! As a Mechanical Engineer (well, at least in a prior life) and a father of two girls I say thank you for anything you can do to encourage the sciences! |

CLOSED Since I'm traveling tomorrow, the month of February is complete for me. My goal was to nail all of my run workouts and I did it. I won't say the pace runs were perfect, but not bad. Totals aren't too bad given two weeks of vacation:
My March goal is to get BQ #4 and a super stretch goal is to beat my 3:39 PR set in '07. I have a few more key runs to nail so we'll see. |

March goals... in progress. Got to look at the travel calendar today and I'll post them either tonight or tomorrow. The concensus seems for me to do the sprint on the 16th. Looking very hard at it and will make a decision in the next day or so |

Rest day today. Bike/Run totals sig lower then Jan and Swim a bit more. March should bring sig higher totals for all 3 =) I received my wave assignment for this Saturday's sprint tri. Based on age (barely), I will be in wave 2 out of 8 waves right behind the elite wave. I would have preferred a later wave but I guess there should be clear water after wave 1 and plan to start in the back of my wave. I anticipate some wave 3 and 4 participants to catch up to me but hopefully I'll be close to finishing the swim by then. There is a novice/beginner workshop right after the open swim tomorrow with Pam Galbraith and Bill Bell. Sadly I did not know who they were last year but looking forward to hearing these Tri legends =) |

Everyone's situation is different. The amount I train compared to previous years is minimal. The amount I train compared to a pro is minimal. What you are doing may be less ( or more) than me, but it's only important in the context of your life. Btw I had a nice outdoor ride today. We are just settling in at disney and will go out to tonight. Hope everyone is well! Enjoy the perfect weather you're getting for slogging around the Park! |

I don't post much, but I do read everyone's logs almost everyday, and I have to say I'm impressed by how much you all do around your very busy lives. Keep up the great work everybody! Here's my February totals:
Very happy with my running. Swimming was OK even though I didn't swim much, at least I was consistent with 2 short swims a week. I really need to bike much more. I have a half marathon on March 10th, so after that, I'll really focus on the bike more. I have a challenging Duathlon in May so I really need to get it in gear. |

The plus side is that I met all of my goals this month including weight loss. Also the run miles are about a 50% increase over January. and the swim is about a 25% increase. So I am happy about that! |

We did some timed work tonight which gave her a baseline and hopefully a plan of action to start. My 50 and 100 timed were okay......I need to work on speed over distance because I get gassed then wind up slowing down. I have endurance, albeit slow. But speed over distance is not my forte. |

Champion 7595 Columbia, South Carolina | Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED Hey everyone. Just got done catching up with everything here. It's been a pretty hectic few weeks for me -- for a while kid stuff hung in the balance, and then once that was sorted out, I got sick (possibly related...). Anyway, I'm feeling pretty good, now, and hope you all are well. I've re-assessed my season, and decided that I'm going to focus on some Fall race. I'm signed up for two spring HIMs, but I will probably not do them. I could finish a HIM in my sleep at this point, even untrained, and that's just not something I'm interested in doing any more. If I cannot race up to a reasonable standard, I'd rather just train. So train it is. Consistency first, then we'll see. |

I will be def looking into volunteering. I did a few 30 day challenges with my CF class last year...it was motivating and really helped with accountability.. those challenge months were the only time I made significant progress. We went as far as posting weekly weigh in pics, posting meals, cheat meals and dealing out penalties. We even had a mutual gym mate who served as a referee =) Perhaps we can start this Monday, do a weekly weigh in on Fridays and do the final weigh in on Friday, March 29... winner based on % of pounds lost... I need to lose a ton too...I do okay once motivated but need to turn on that switch soon...long term goal is about 20-25 pounds for me.. Anyone else interested ? |
