Good times. I am thankful to have a job today.

Stressful times for sure.  Been there done that.  You'll be fine.

Would it be worth looking for something new?  Maybe get out of there before anything bad happens and you have a gap in your resume?  Not that hurts you THAT much.  Everyone understands there could be gaps over the last 5 years.

I am "looking" but unfortunately can't afford to not work. But yeah... keeping my eyes and ears open FOR SURE.

Yikes - sorry to hear about the layoffs, but really happy that you're safe.

I hear ya on the can't afford not to work... I know that we CAN live off of one salary (hopefully Tony's as he makes more) if we have to, but it would make things awfully tight again and it wasn't a comfortable position to be in.

I know, it makes me really think about finances and saving more. I'm so bad about saving!

Do it. It's getting scary here. I had my income cut in half in 2009 and am down to zero now. You base your debt on your income and now; well, I'm skimming down the savings at an alarming rate. I looked at my 401K today in case I have to withdraw.

Been there before and ended up taking a lot of our 401k and the taxes suck that go with it when you don't have any income.  We ran out of savings, and the only money left was the 401k.  Didn't put anything on a credit card though.

Dude: I'm 53 and have a daughter in 9th grade looking at college. I need to hold everything, but I risk losing everything. Scared shitless right about now.

I can't think at the moment.  How old is 9th grade?  13?  So had her at 40?

I'm 44 and wife want some, but not now.  I'm starting to think that ship has sailed.  I don't want to be 75 when they graduate HS.  I'm going to be too old to whip their but playing sports when they are in HS too.

She was adopted in 1999 at age 2 and I was 38. Susan was 33 then. We fought I diagnosed infertility for years before getting there, so it was delayed while we tried.

american adoption or international?  how long did it take?  i am incredibly curious about the process...may consider it some day for us cause pregnancy/taking care of an infant just sounds like an awful awful choice for me.

Anybody have any fun plans for this weekend??

Hmmm... it will be a training weekend for me with a 5-6hr ride on Saturday and a 2.5-3hr run on Sunday.  I've got this little race coming up in about 6 weeks that I'm trying to get ready for...  Tongue out

I sooo need to be doing the same, but I'm sick

I can feel it moving into the upper respiratory area, and my desk looks like a pharmacy right now - and not in the fun way.

On the kids & age thing.... I wish I had met someone when I was younger as I'd love to have had kids of my own. At age 42, there is no way I'm starting now. Like y'all, I don't want to be 60+ when they graduate high school.  As it is, I'll be 55 when the girlfriend's youngest is 18.  Too damn old to be chasing kids!

I just found out I was picked to be one of the cyclists leading the pro's through the course for the Rock and Roll Half Marathon on Sunday. I'm so excited.

Stanley Biwott is going to try and set a new US record, which means running 13.1 miles in under 58:46. That's just insane. 13.38 mph. Glad I'm on the bike.

International from Ukraine. I refer to the process as "taxes on acid". INS here was the most difficult, but I managed. Peruse the state department's website to see the differences in countries and regulations; that's where we did a lot of our research

Had lunch with my co-worker, our manager and senior manager. We were told they are more than confident our jobs are safe and how much we are appreciated. Very heart felt and genuine. That was a nice surprise.

I think they're worried everyone is looking to jump ship... Surprised

Very cool of them, but they SHOULD be worried.  You can't have that many waves of layoffs and not have people get jumpy.

In the end, every employee has to look out for themselves, and if they feel their stability is threatened, they need to have contingency plans.

Great news that you are among those they singled out, however!  Yay

They should be worried that people will start leaving.  That is a lot of people losing positions and then they also tell you another round is coming.  I will be surprised if you don't lose some good people, trying to get out.

Here is something that makes me shake my head. On Pinterest the caption for a recipe will say "2 INGREDIENT BROWNIES!" and the first "ingredient" is a box of brownie mix.

Do people not realize that a box of brownie mix has approximately 79 "ingredients" in it?

I am probably the only one that this actually bothers.

Everyone here has told me to jump ship!

Had two awesome phone interviews this week, which lead to follow-ups. One in-person follow up in about an hour! One in-person probably next week.

But they are way non-comfort-zone things. One is a commission-based full time tri coach at a big name upscale fitness chain... one is an engineering gig at a 15-person company and is solely based on grants. But it'd last me until my next Army school at least.

Really....I don't have your food issues, but considering a box of mix 1 ingredient isn't accurate.

That being said, I made brownies from a mix today and enjoyed them.

Have a great Saturday morning all.  It is the Wabash Trace marathon today that I wanted to help with, but I have half the plant working, so instead I got up early to work through the entire event.  Would have rather been running sound (playing music and announcing the runners).  Oh well, there is always next year.

God bless all boobies.

I made stroganoff and it was delicious. Ox tail sounds delightful too! Glass of Zinfandel with that and a nice spinach salad with Gorgonzola?

Training our bodies to work efficiently in Zone 2 will help us keep our HR and pace even throughout an Ironman. This theory would hold true for the bike and run portion of an Ironman race.
