Ok, break from manatee silliness for a moment for a running shoe question...

I know we discussed the Brooks Pure line back in August (I just went back and read it) but...

I am thinking of adding another pair of Pure's to my collection. I was looking at REI and they have the Connect (which I have now), the Drift and the Flow. I'm wondering if I should stick with the Connect or get something different for variety. Thoughts on any of these shoes and/or the need for variety?

Now back to your regularly scheduled chatter...

Not sure what you like about your Connects, but I have the Flows. After some initial issues with rubbing, I now am very comfy in them. I choose them for 45min+ over my Frees...little more cushion.

Such a personal preference kind of thing. Just do what you want.

Personally, I have a wide variety of shoes. I don't like getting used to any one make/model. The drift is the most minal, least amount of drop no? Do you know if this kind of shoe would work for you?

Looks like they are all 4mm.

Ok well, they are the lightest and most flexible.

Yeah, maybe I'll try the others on and go with comfort. The only one I've tried is the Connect.

And no, I have no (none, zero, zilch) idea about the quality of work this outfit does.

I've just put an order in for custom Louis garneu gear for a uk based forum group I belong to similar to, but no way near as mad as, the manatees. Wasn't cheap, but there are quite a few members to this group, so we could make the minimum orders for custom designs. I think the bill for this order was close to 10k pounds. When I get em back, I'll post a pic'. I ended up buying a cycle jersey, shorts, gillet and arm warmers, all custom, for £160.00.

Desi Davila is running the Berlin marathon this weekend. Let's hope she can finish!

I'm not a huge fan of hers but I'd still like to see her continue to have success.

Sad to see Goucher drop out of NYC

I find the Connects a little snug--they did stretch decently and I have to wear thin socks.

LOVE the Flows, could wear them forever.  They are my long run shoe cause they just feel amazing.  The Drift  is okay, I have it....if you take the insole out the shoe has 0 drop.  It's a bit too minimalist for me.  For my needs, this shoe is okay for short/ easy runs but my feet don't do well in them for longer runs.  That's my 2 cents anyway--everyone's foot and shoe need is a bit different.  Just that shoes can get pretty pricey to buy and find out it "just doesn't work" for me.

So he gets free tri clothing from one for the year - racing suits, compression socks, sleeves tights and accessories.

Protein powder and supplements from the other as well as some funding.

Second tier sponsorship from a third offering discount on Shotz.

Next chasing up wetsuit and sunglasses and a bike box company.

This is fun.

SHOW ME THE MONEY.

That is awesome, Jo!  Your athlete will be so stoked!  So a stupid question - are you doing this as your primary job or is this a side venture?

I'm thinkin' somebody needs to start showing JO PRO HO the money!

She actually has a real, important, full-time day job AND a hubby kiddo dog AND does a few thousand other things for everybody else.

She is a true angel.

It is funny i would love triathlon to be my paid employment and slowly i think i'm making it happen.  For now i am acting as Kieran's agent for nothing.  He offered to give me a cut of whatever yesterday - i said what ya gonna give me a compression sock?  I said let's race this season and then we will draw u a contract and i start getting money.  But right now i'm doing it coz i love this guy sooooo much.

the guy who does the supplements is someone i met through Macca's Facebook we became friends and he started his own business last year so i'm helping him really giving him an athlete of this calibre.  He in fact offered me a job yesterday too.

i work for Macca for nothing I work for Vinnie Tortorich for nothing - but karma i think will be kind.

In the meantime i still work full time, train my azz off and have a family - oh i don't sleep much and never go out lol

One of em has more stability, one has less drop, I'm not sure I remember which is which though. My only shoe rule is that if you find one you like, buy lots of them, the manufacturer is bound to change them soon.

That being the case, if you like the Connect, get more, before they are "Updated".

I thought about that too. Looking at the drift, flow, connect and cadence on the REI sight and the main difference I see is price. I guess I'll have to go try some on Laughing

Cadence are the ones with more support for pronation.  Flow are more cushioned. Connect are pretty neutral and plain.  Drift are the really flexible ones with the lowest drop.

ugh. I woke up two days ago with a sore throat; as the weather had changed and the North Winds were blowing, I figured it was just an annoying allergy type thing. Well, now my sinuses are angry and the throat is not quite as sore. Other than that, I am feeling normal. Still hoping for allergies only--with the Wild Affair stage show next Saturday and the Urban Cow 1/2 Mari next Sunday, I CANNOT be sick!!!! Yell

Hey Manatees,

What shoes do you wear when you aren't running?  I've been wearing Brooks Cascadias - neutral trail shoes - but they need to be replaced and I think they might be a bit stiff.  I can start walking without the boot as pain permits (a few hours barefoot in the house today!), so I want to get a good shoe.  Tips?

My typical running shoe is pretty heavy, so I'm not sure that would be a great call.  I guess I could get a pair that I run shorter races in? Or one of the lightweight shoes?  It's best for me if I stick with Brooks, but I can go in another direction if necessary.

Oy! Not my fault! I didn't even tell you about the Farmer's Market thing until after YOU 'fessed up

I told Tangerines (Monica ... blueyedbikersomethingorotherwhatthehellishername, too) she must eat treats on her ultralong drainer ride today ... now the same goes for you on long runs!

Seeing you in running joy--after all, after everything--makes me joyful.
