Good morning/afternoon/evening, depending on your time zone!  At the request of TJ, I will post me in my Team Fight kit with Rico before I went out for my ride yesterday (although it was chilly - I changed back into a SS jersey and arm warmers!).  Sorry for my blinding whiteness - darn Scottish/European skin!

Less than a week 'til race day!!!  Crazy forecast - yesterday things looked good.  Today, less so with a 40% chance of rain, but still better than last year.  Let's hope it changes for the better.  At the very least it will be warmer than last year!

Great pic and you look fabulous in that kit, dahling.  Fab-u-lous!
I agree!!!!!

answers to frog questions:

They do live at my home with me.

They live in a wood and plexiglass tank that I recently renovated  with frogs in mind.

They are called Waxy Monkey frogs because they secrete a waxy substance to help withstand the desert temps/dryness they would face in Paraguay, and the monkey part is because they climb using hand and feet rather than hopping (easier to catch too)

They are super cute.

So how many of you now have a forced day off without pay today?

I am a bit dumbfounded by this and am thinking of you and hoping that they find a way to resolve the issue sooner rather than later so things can get back to "normal".

Oh, my Australian friends, we are so, so faced up here. (Did you know we also only get 6 weeks of maternity leave and it doesn't have to be paid?) I always like having these discussions with my Australian family. I'm sure we all sound like freakin barbarians . Most of our politicians are corrupt, self-serving bastards--both parties. This has been a long time coming, and people are really starting to get sick of it. The shutdown is truly incredible.

all I can say is "welcome to 'merica" **rolleyes**

It's TUESDAY!! And thankfully I get to spend most of it WFH - on this awesome OCTOBER morning - 65 degrees and sunny anyone?

Hope you have a great day!

MBC

OH edited to add: I signed up for an 8 week swim clinic on Sundays starting at the end of the month. Hopefully that kicks my butt into swim mode.

AND today registration opens up for the HIM I will be doing as a team with my husband and cousin. I'm swimming - EEK!

Ok - back to work.

Oh don't get me started on the paid maternity leave BS. Why if I choose to have children should I expect to be paid while I am on leave? My poor employer already has to hold my job for me for 12 months (yes months) but now I also expect to be paid as well, its ridiculous. As of last year or the year before the Government now pays 12 or 15 weeks of the basic wage in maternity leave payments if the primary carer was in full time employment prior to the birth of the child.

I will admit that the Government services and support in Australia are fairly good but we pay for it. The average employee pays between 40-50% in direct and indirect taxes. Our wages are a lot higher than in the US but so is the cost of EVERYTHING. A prime example is that we pay over $6 for a gallon of gas (fuel) and the average house price in the city where I live is around $500,000 and this is for an average house, nothing flash.

I'm so sorry to hear this.  Last government shutdown (1995), both DH and I worked for Lockheed Martin on a contract with the EPA.  Not only were we not paid during the shutdown, we were never paid (the EPA workers were).  DH and I hope to never work for the same company again.

There doesn't seem to be one good solution re health care, but this "mine is bigger than yours" stand off is ridiculous and will not go unnoticed at the polls. People are fed up with this crap.

thankfully while I work for the government it is not the federal government, so it is business as usual.

Yeah, these last few months are really making me reconsider my decision to leave a well paid private sector job to be a civil whipping boy servant

Geez - this work thing is really getting in the way of my BT time!!

I know I'm a few pages behind, but here's what I can remember...

Kate - the waxy monkey frogs are too cute!

Mel - LOVE the bike pic, and clearly you have excellent taste when it comes to choice of bicycles.

Salty - hope the new job is AWESOME!

TJ - great pics of you and your family

Erin - start to feel better m'kay?

Switch - so happy to hear that the ankle is feeling better - apparently rest is a good thing!

For everyone that raced, I promise I'll get to the race reports eventually!

To all the manatees, you're in my thoughts and keep up the good work!
