Felicia, it totally made me think of you. I think I'm going to need a pair of these if they are still available in a month or two.
Oh, my!!! I could look really good in these. Are they Brooks? I'm guessing by the logo, but I'm not that great on identifying running shoes. They are!! They are their light line, but are also support shoes. I LOVE these shoes. Definitely want another pair. Ha! I am so observant. I just noticed the "Brooks Fanatic" in your signature line. I may have to try them. I mean, really. They would match my running gear so well. Edited by KansasMom 2012-06-05 2:44 PM |

I was thinking of you last night on my swim as I did one arm drills... That's funny. I was thinking of him at noon while I was doing my one-arm drills. I was wondering what you do with the bum arm, Reece -- keep it to your side, assume? Actually the first few times I did keep it at my side (hand at hip) but that was because it hurt a little when extended forward. I can now do the drills "properly" with my hand extended forward. The mile race is tonight for Corporate Challenge. I brought my gear, thinking about puttng the sling on and jogging the mile to get a few points. Last year in our small companies division a 7:28 mile got third place. I might be able to run that even with a sling. So there will be a dozen or so runners in my heat that will run slower than me. Not sure how they will take being "slinged". I've heard of getting chicked, geezered, strollered, etc. but I haven't heard of anyone getting slinged yet. |

Elite 4435 | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Part 2 -- Full Pod I just wanna thank you all - I feel so loved! Gonna have an emotional day today I think - crashing down after the highs of all the Macca activity over the weekend! Next week I need to speak to the coach at the tri club I just joined (can't believe I did that either!) about a program for the next half in November as well as incorporating that race as part of my full IM training for March.... Can't wait to track some HIM activity this weekend. Me I'm still resting which is so dull! Thursday swim squad just to loosen up these tired muscles. Then Friday having my hair straightened which means no exercise for 4 days as I can't get it wet or sweaty! Enforced rest! It's great though because it lasts about 4 months! |

Master 4452 | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Part 2 -- Full Pod kgore - 2012-06-05 10:31 AM Once again, another day off, and I fill it with plenty to do--yardwork, training, cleaning, etc...Clint decided that he would really like it if I planted some green beans (we have an obsession with them, I swear--they are SO good), of course, they are one of the few veggies that I have good luck growing. So I have to prep the area in which I would like to plant them. Thankfully, its a cool day today. I also have to get out on the bike for a goodish ride today (25-30 miles), along with a quick little run. I came to some conclusions about my training and effort today, the whole thing is in my blog--long story short, I have noticed that I am not really trying, in training or racing--has anyone else had this issue, where you basically say, "well, I can do the distance, that's what matters, so speed really doesn't make a difference."--and you end up not pushing yourself? Or is it just me? Ah well, I should not dwell on it too much and just go. I have the opposite problem in running--I go too hard and end up injured. I have to really work on keeping the intensity down for my supposed-to-be-not-intense runs. Biking I am still too new at--haven't figured out all the pacing just yet. Now swimming--picking up Masters a couple days a week has really helped me there. I didn't push myself near hard enough in swimming. Having someone on the deck watching really keeps me accountable. Now, the swims I do on my own, I have to imagine Jillian yelling at me (she used to yell at me in my head when I first started running and working out. You know, when I wanted to quit.) My issue is often that I am afraid I won't be able to do the distance/time/whatever, so I don't try. I usually find I can do more than I think I can! |

The only times I have had that issue ---going too intense---was during the swim leg at races; and unfortunately, it led to full on asthma crappyness! But yes, I agree with Salty, and this is what I need to do as well. Today's workout did go well, I biked on a new route (15 miles, more hilly than I thought it would be!), and I fought a headwind and my bike on it. (more on that in a sec.) On my run, I kept hearing that da*n brainbug saying "I don't really feel like running, I could just stop after the biking...Or I can just walk it..." I did not listen to the brainbug, and I ran the whole route---it was only 1.61 miles, but my pace was 11.11/mile--VERY good for me! therefore, I am happy overall. As for my bike, it has decided that when in a certain gear, to suddenly switch to a lighter gear-and then back--without my permission...This did force me to ride the majority of my route in a harder gear--so a more intense workout in that...but still...I guess I will be springing for a tune up this month...>sigh< |

It started raining about 5 minutes in. Now am I not only the crazy fat neighbor lady who runs, I am the crazy fat neighbor lady who RUNS IN THE RAIN! Like I said in my blog, I'm sure all the high school kids are laughing at me, but I did have a mom cheer me on and clap for me and tell me she was impressed. It made the last 5 minutes to get home so much easier. I'm impressed, too. Good for you! I can only imagine what the people in this town say about me . . . oh my. It is so small, I think everyone knows my training business. They probably think that they wish they could be like you. Out there doing stuff like running and biking while they sit on their couches. Spending time with your kids in the pool. Stuff like that is what most people want to do, but don't know where to start. I actually hear that from some of the people I work with as I am leaving the building with my bike in my lycra shorts and hi-vis shirt. "I wish I could do that." they say. |

Master 4452 | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Part 2 -- Full Pod Ok, bike fit done. After much questioning and walking/standing/peddling, etc, saddle went up, bars went down, cleats got moved back and out. It was suggested that I get some narrower bars, but will hold off on that for now. Definitely could feel the difference/better with regards to my left foot reaching on the downstroke. Now it just needs to stop raining so I can get out and test everything out! |

He told me, so confidently, that his bike was so smart -- it shifts automatically. You know, like an automatic transmission, I guess. I suppressed my laughter, and then kindly told him that . . .actually, bike's aren't supposed to shift on their own. They are supposed to wait for your command. He was so disappointed. Maybe I shouldn't have told him. |

Master 3888 Overland Park, KS | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Part 2 -- Full Pod Mini Mini Mile Race Report: I ran for the first time since May 5 today, exactly one month! Went to the Corporate Challenge track meet, signed in, put my arm sling on, then warmed up for 5 minutes. The starter called us over (45-49 AG) so I lined up in the very back. Being the only fool out there with a sling a dude asked what part of my body was broken so I told him fractured collar bone. I got a few smiles and few interesting looks. A few minutes later the gun went off. My plan was to run the first quarter in 2:00, then take 5-10 seconds each quarter. So at lap 1 the clock shows 1:46 so I slow down a tad, crossed 2nd lap at 3:30 ish and thought if I could keep that pace I could run a 7:00. I didn't get a look at the clock after 3 laps but I kicked a little something into gear the last lap finised the mile in 6:55. As I was running around the track I would hear things like "look at that guy, he's wearing a sling". Very happy with my time. I'll be running on the trail soon, maybe Friday morning/evening for 3-4 miles. |
